Mumbai, Jan 25 An additional district collector was today burnt alive allegedly by petrol and diesel mafia at Manmad in Maharashtra''s Nashik district, police said.
Additional District Collector Yashwant Sonawane was accompanied by his personal assistant and driver when the shocking incident took place at a roadside Dhaba near Manmad town, about 260 KM from here.
"Preliminary reports say Sonawane had gone there to conduct a raid on petrol and diesel mafia. There some people, believed to be associated with the mafia, who set him on fire causing his death," Additional Director General (Law & Order) K P Rahuvanshi told PTI.
Another report said Sonawane had stopped at a roadside hotel on way to a certain place to oversee security arrangements for an event when he found people adulterating fuel.
Sonawane objected to it, leading to a scuffle during which he was set ablaze resulting in his death.
What could you expect about common people's security in these areas?

An East Village man yesterday needed a blowtorch, hammer and chisel -- and a day's worth of determination -- to rescue his car, which had become encased in ice thanks to a freakish series of factors that included a busted underground pipe, passing cars splashing water and subfreezing temperatures. Peter Helfer, 32, wound up smashing the back window and scratching up the paint on his 2008 Audi A3 station wagon as he struggled to chip, thaw and steam it free.
Helfer had parked his fancy wheels on Friday night in front of 44 E. Second St., near where he lives, and didn't return to it until coming home dejectedly from a Jet party Sunday night. "It was really adding insult to injury because I found it after the Jets game," Helfer said.
City workers told The Post they believe the car was parked right near a faulty water line they had recently tried to repair. But the city pipe apparently wasn't fixed completely, and a mini-pond formed around Helfer's vehicle. Passing cars then splashed the icy water on Helfer's car for more than 48 straight hours

Washington,(IANS)Hundreds of Indian students, mostly from Andhra Pradesh, face the prospect of being deported from the US after a 'sham' university in California was shut down for allegedly selling US visa to willing students.
The Tri-Valley University in Pleasanton, a suburb in San Francisco Bay Area, was raided Tuesday and charged with helping foreign nationals illegally acquire immigration status, according to local media reports.
The immigration investigation began in May 2010, after it was noticed that the school applied for an excessive number of US student visas when compared to the previous year.
In February 2009, Tri-Valley University was approved to issue visas and by May of that year, 11 students were issued a US visa to study. However, by May 2010, a total of 939 students were issued visas to study at the school. Over 95 percent of the students were from India, and the school allegedly gave the same apartment's address for over half of them.
The apartment manager reportedly told ICE officials he only had four university students ever living there and that was only from June 2007 to August 2009. He said he has had none since. Classes were scheduled to start again Jan 10, once the winter break was over, but that has not happened. ICE found that while students were admitted to various residential and online courses of the university and, on paper, they lived in California, in reality they illegally worked in various parts of the country as far as Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania and Texas.
Federal authorities are now sweeping out for all those students, who paid lakhs of rupees for obtaining student visas and also student work permits.

ORKIN DESIGN- The device of the flexible display allows a new concept in notebook design growing out of the traditional bookformed laptop into unfurling and convolving portable computer. By virtue of the OLED-Display technology and a multi touch screen the utility of a laptop computer with its weight of a mini-notebook and screen size of 13 inch easily transforms into the graphics tablet, which with its 17-inch flat screen can be also used as a primary monitor.
On top of everything else all computer utilities from power supply through the holding belt to an interactive pen are integrated in Rolltop. This is really an all-in-one gadget.

This date marks both the Sikh New Year, according to the Nanakshahi Sikh Calendar, and also the Gurgaddi Diwas of the seventh Sikh Guru, Guru Har Rai ji, who in the mid 17th century was preaching that Sikhs must defend all that is vulnerable – including plants and animals. “It will provide an opportunity to reflect upon our relationship with nature and mark a day on which we commit to environmental activism as followers of Guru Har Rai ji,” said Dr Rajwant Singh, who is the head of the Sikh Council on Religion and Education (SCORE) in Washington DC.
“We hope that this particular day will be celebrated and the entire Sikh community will do something in solidarity around the world.”
In July 2009 SCORE organized an EcoSikh conclave in New Delhi , as part of the UNDP-ARC initiative worldwide to help faiths create long term environmental plans.
Sikh organizations and leaders declared a five year plan as a Sikh response and commitment to save the earth against the threat of global warming and ecological depletion.

The sex ratio in Punjab is beginning to look up as 83 panchayats in the state have achieved a sex ratio of 1,000 girls for the same number of boys. These panchayats are a small fraction of the over 12,000 villages in the state, but the Department of Health and Family Welfare has encouraged the panchayats by giving them a reward of Rs 1.5 lakh each. The panchayat members will be honoured on Republic Day.
Stating this here, Health Minister Lakshmi Kanta Chawla said the state was trying to create awareness and to sensitize people regarding the worth of the girl child.
The department had inspected 3,462 ultrasound centres across the state since April 2010 to ensure they did not indulge in female foeticide. Notices had been sent to 144 of these centres under Section 20 of the PNDT Act.
The minister said the licences of 96 centres were suspended whereas licences of five centres were cancelled following different violations of the provisions of the Act.
one detail report on declining sex ratio in India.. but if you check the numbers , condition is worse in Punjab and then Among Sikhs.. Its really shameful..http://www.authorstream.com/Presentation/Roxie-10074-SEX-Ratio-sex-ratio-ppt-powerpoint/

Now, Ted Williams is the most famous man in Columbus - and beyond. Google his name: He appears before the Hall of Fame hitter.
But that's how things work in a world where a 1-minute, 37-second video can ricochet around the Internet in a matter of hours and morph from a slow-news-day feature on Dispatch.com into a global phenomenon.
How did "Golden Homeless Voice" go viral?
It took an unauthorized repost on YouTube, tweets, Facebook recommendations and a blurb on the megasite Gawker to get Williams' story before CNN and the networks.
More than 12 million people watched Williams, a homeless former radio announcer, demonstrate his "God-given gift of voice" on YouTube before the site acknowledged a copyright violation and removed the video.
Adam Schweigert, a self-described "digital dude" who created a timeline of the Williams story using a site called Storify, said he saw the video about 10 a.m. Tuesday, when just 300 or so people had watched it on YouTube.
There's no predicting the fate of videos posted online, experts say. Some things just catch on: Susan Boyle, Justin Bieber, the groggy little boy coming home from the dentist. Film.com declared Williams "the first viral celeb of 2011" and yesterday foresaw "the inevitable made-for-TV film." Jack Nicholson and Oprah Winfrey have reportedly offered him work.
Why did the homeless man with the golden voice get so much attention?
People aren't sure.
McBride said it's simply the surprise of a radio-announcer voice coming out of a disheveled, homeless man that captured people's fancy. If you look for deeper meaning, she said, you're overthinking it.
Others see something deeper, though.
Robert Stewart, director of the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University in Athens, said people were moved by segments in the video such as when Williams says, "God bless you" for receiving a dollar, when he tells his story about drug and alcohol addictions, and when he shares his hope for a new start.
Another post with that viral video.. http://punjabijanta.com/other-videos/'golden-voice'-homeless-man-finds-job-home-after-viral-video-success/

One of the habits is that "warming up" the car for a few minutes is necessary to avoid some kind of unspecified damage. I have heard different opinions about warming up car in winters..so heres discussion should we put our car on ignition to warm up before we start driving?
here's few facts about this need for this idling question??.. 1. Driving warms the car faster than idling If your concern is not the health of the car, but simply your own creature comforts, Bob Aldrich of the California Energy Commission points out that "idling is not actually an effective way to warm up a car — it warms up faster if you just drive it."
The coming electric cars, such as the Nissan Leaf, will incorporate a wonderful feature that allows the owner to use a cellphone to tell the car (which is plugged into the grid) to pre-warm or pre-cool the interior. No idling necessary. 2. Ten seconds is all you need Environmental Defense Fund, which produced the Idling Gets You Nowhere campaign, advises motorists to turn off their ignition if they're sitting stopped for more than 10 seconds.
"After about 10 seconds, you waste more money running the engine than restarting it, said Andy Darrell, deputy director of the EDF Energy Program. "Switch the car off at the curb, and you'll be leaving money in your wallet and protecting the air in your community." 3. Idling hurts the car According to the Hinkle Charitable Foundation's Anti-Idling Primer, idling forces an engine "to operate in a very inefficient and gasoline-rich mode that, over time, can degrade the engine's performance and reduce mileage."
4. Idling costs money Over a year of five minutes of daily idling (which causes incomplete combustion of fuel), the "Anti-Idling Primer" estimates that the operator of a V8-engine car will waste 20 gallons of gasoline, which not only produces 440 pounds of carbon dioxide but costs at least $60. 5. Idling in the garage can kill you Idling a car in a garage, even with the door open, is dangerous and exposes the driver to carbon monoxide and other noxious gases. If the garage is attached, those fumes can also enter the house.
6. Block heaters beat remote starters Lori Strothard of the Waterloo Citizens Vehicle Idling Reduction Task Force in Canada says, "Remote starters can too easily cause people to warm up their cars for 5 to 15 minutes, which is generally unnecessary." A block heater, which is designed to heat the engine and can cost under $30, on a timer set to start one to two hours before driving, does the trick in very cold climates. 7. Quick errands aren't quick enough Natural Resources Canada points out that leaving your car idling while you're running into a store on an errand or going back into the house to pick up a forgotten item is another way to waste gas and pollute both your town and the planet.
"Leaving your engine running is hard on your pocketbook, produces greenhouse gas emissions, and is an invitation to car thieves," the agency (PDF) says. 8. Idling is bad for your health (and your neighbor's health) According to Minneapolis' anti-idling ordinance, "Exhaust is hazardous to human health, especially children's; studies have linked air pollution to increased rates of cancer, heart and lung disease, asthma and allergies."
I wud like to hear about this from PJ users and especially from Codenmae47ji too?

So this post is dedicated to Man's Best Friend :D
Whether breeders or caretakers accept or deny this fact, it is there, existing at the back of your subconscious. Luxury dogs are not entirely branded as being an animal user; rather, some breeders even prefer luxury dogs for many different reasons, and two of these are for uplifting their social status and selling the dogs. So here's List for most expensive dogs in 2010..1.
The first on the list is the world’s famous and exquisitely rare breed called Samoyed, which costs around $3000 to $8000.
2. The second on the list is the popular British-born dog breed, which costs around $2000 to $5000, the Bulldog or colloquially known as English Bulldog or British Bulldog.
3. he third on the list is the small version of Spaniel type breeds, which costs around $800 to $3,500, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.
4. The fourth is the smallest among the terrier kinds, which costs around $2,000 to $3,000, Norfolk Terrier.
5. The fifth in the rank is a larger dog breed originating from Japan’s Akita Prefecture, which costs around $1500 to $3500, Akita Inu.

Have you ever worked on your laptop computer with it sitting on your lap, heating up your legs?
If so, you might want to rethink that habit.
Doing it a lot can lead to "toasted skin syndrome," an unusual-looking mottled skin condition caused by long-term heat exposure, according to medical reports. and this discoloration is permanent one.
In one recent case, a 12-year-old boy developed a sponge-patterned skin discoloration on his left thigh after playing computer games a few hours every day for several months. "He recognized that the laptop got hot on the left side; however, regardless of that, he did not change its position,"
Swiss researchers reported in an article published Monday in the journal Pediatrics. Another case involved a Virginia law student who sought treatment for the mottled discoloration on her leg.
Dr. Kimberley Salkey, who treated the young woman, was stumped until she learned the student spent about six hours a day working with her computer propped on her lap. The temperature underneath registered 125 degrees. That case, from 2007, is one of 10 laptop-related cases reported in medical journals in the past six years.
Major manufacturers including Apple, Hewlett Packard and Dell warn in user manuals against placing laptops on laps or exposed skin for extended periods of time because of the risk for burns.
Chronic, prolonged skin inflammation can potentially increase chances for squamous cell skin cancer, which is more aggressive than the most common skin cancer. So?? What u guys suggest that could be possible solution to prevent this condition??

I noticed today Punjabi Janta is wondering how the heart ever got connected to our emotions like we use sometimes these phrases ..."from the heart"..."with all my heart"...."broken hearted" After all...it pumps blood...it doesn't think! ohhk , So lets have discussion over it..How Heart is coonect to brain n then emotions then in turn theses emotions affect heart functioning then again signal is sent to brain.. and this cycle (feed back mechanism) continues..
Actually The heart rate increases in response to stress and heightened emotional states. -> Stress, excitement, anxiety, fear and anger can cause the sympathetic nervous system to release hormones such as adrenaline into the blood stream.| | These hormones cause the "flight or fight" response by triggering increases in the blood pressure, respiration rate and heart rate.
So this is how emotions affect Heart and its functioning.. Next is how Heart affects emotions..Recent HeartMath studies define a critical link between the heart and brain. The heart is in a constant two-way dialogue with the brain — our emotions change the signals the brain sends to the heart and the heart responds in complex ways. However, we now know that the heart sends more information to the brain than the brain sends to the heart.
This research explains how the heart responds to emotional and mental reactions and why certain emotions stress the body and drain our energy. As we experience feelings like anger, frustration, anxiety and insecurity, our heart rhythm patterns become more erratic. These erratic patterns are sent to the emotional centers in the brain, which it recognizes as negative or stressful feelings. These signals create the actual feelings we experience in the heart area and the body. The erratic heart rhythms also block our ability to think clearly.Lets see diagrammatically how emotions affect our heartthis figure shows Perceptions and emotions profoundly affect Autonomic Nervous System balance and Heart.

American company Terrafugia is set to unveil its new "flying car" as early as 2011, the technological marvel will be able to both drive along roads like a normal car and take to the skies at up to 115 km/hour.
An American company Terrafugia Transition, based near Boston, is set to unveil the dual-purpose car-cum-plane vehicle called ‘The Flying Car’ as early as 2011. The two-seater vehicle can let you fly if you wish to avoid the congested city traffic."
Transition ~ car-plane has wings that unfold for flying — a process the company says takes one minute — and fold back up for driving. A runway is still required to takeoff and land.
The Transition is being marketed more as a plane that drives than a car that flies, although it is both. The company has been working with FAA to meet aircraft regulations, and with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to meet vehicle safety regulations. The Transition's price tag: $194,000. But there may be additional charges for options like a radio, transponder or GPS. Another option is a full-plane parachute. So far, the company has more than 70 orders with deposits.
Terrafugia is Latin for "escape from the land." The company was founded in 2006 by five Massachusetts Institute of Technology grad students who were also pilots. They received some seed money from the school.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.- The West Shore resident, who, police allege, announced on his Facebook.com page that he had gotten drunk and fired a gun out his window, ended up arrested on felony charges.
Scott Harris, 31, took a .38 caliber pistol belonging to his father, with whom he lives, and fired it out his second-floor window on the 100 block of Cannon Avenue about 4:30 a.m. Monday, police allege.
The shot rattled one neighbor, sparking a call to 911, and police also learned of the Facebook post, a law enforcement source said.
Harris admitted firing the gun, saying he had come home from doing shots of liquor at a North Shore tavern, the source said.
“I thought it would be a good idea [at the time] to fire one round of a .38 in the air toward the swampland,” he said, according to court papers.
Harris was arrested later that day, and charged with second- and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, as well as first-degree reckless endangerment, said William J. Smith, a spokesman for District Attorney Daniel Donovan.
Therefore, Always be careful, Frdz..

Last night , I came across Tiger Style's Beautiful PJ Wallpaper on Apples' theme so Today thought of making this post based on different kind of Apples.
We are well aware that apples has been mentioned lots of time in history.Even we get Apple's reference in Adam and Eve's era too. After that, apples r crucial part of Laws of gravity by Newton. And now I think everyone knows all over the world that "An Apple a day, keeps the doctor away.
Ok lets have a look over different varieties of Apples in the World. There are more than 7,000 different kinds of apples in the world. Some are round and some are hearts in shape.1. AKANE
Pronounced ah-kahn-ay, this variety originated in Japan. More tart and spicy than sweet, with firm flesh.
2.ARKANSAS BLACK
As distinctively tart and astringent as a Jolly Rancher, with firm, fine-grained flesh. This tiny apple turns a very dark red.
3.ARLET
waxy-skinned, soft-fleshed Arlet and subtly sweet in flavor.
4.ASHMEAD’S KERNEL
What it lacks in looks, this old, leathery English apple makes up for in flavor—super-tart, spicy.
5.BRAEBURN
This one is from NZ and its balance b/t sweet and tart flavor.
6.EVE'S DELIGHT
7.NY 428
its tangy, vinous, sweet-sour flavor and abundantly juicy flesh. It’s a local, after all, born in Cornell’s ag department. At Samascott.
8.SUNCRISP
Crisp, cream-colored flesh and an excellent, complex, pearlike flavor that fairly cries out for a nice stinky cheese to go along with it. At Tree-Licious.
9.WINTER BANANA
it gets its name from its alleged bananalike fragrance, but the real draw here, besides non-bananalike good looks, is a subtle sweetness and crisp, juicy flesh. I would like to add more, but right now short of time .. Anyone else want to add, u r most welcome.. and I will be more than happy if u uyz would like to share.. What apple did u eat today..

The 2009 Fortune Most Powerful Women list is out! And this is proud moment for Indians.. =D> =D>The list criteria, in case you're wondering, is four-fold: the size and importance of the woman's business in the global economy, the health and direction of the business, the arc of the woman's career, and social and cultural influence. 1. Indra Nooyi
Chairman and CEO PepsiCo (PEP) 2009 rank: 1 Age: 54
In her fifth year atop our list, Nooyi completed the purchase of PepsiCo's two largest bottlers, bringing revenues to a projected $60 billion. Now she'll have to deliver the $400 million annual cost savings she promised. Investors seem assured: The stock is up 12% since September 2009.
2. Irene Rosenfeld
Chairman and CEO Kraft Foods (KFT) 2009 rank: 2 Age: 57
Rosenfeld's battle for candy maker Cadbury rankled Kraft's largest shareholder, Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway, but analysts say the $19 billion purchase is sweet: It pushes Kraft to $48 billion in revenue and gives the food giant a bigger foothold in emerging markets like India.
3. Patricia Woertz
Chairman, president and CEO Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) 2009 rank: 3 Age: 57
She built her career in big oil, but now oversees 240 plants that turn agricultural sources into food and chemicals. ADM is already the world's largest corn processor; now Woertz is focused on other fuel and energy sources. Investors clearly like the push: ADM stock has climbed 13% in the past 12 months.
4. Angela Braly
Chairman, President and CEO WellPoint (WLP) 2009 rank: 4
5. Andrea Jung
Chairman and CEO Avon Products (AVP) 2009 rank: 5 Age: 52
6. Oprah Winfrey
Chairman Harpo and OWN 2009 rank: 6 Age: 56
7. Ellen Kullman
Chairman and CEO DuPont (DD) 2009 rank: 7 Age: 54
