The Tribune, New Delhi
“Almost 6.6 million people living with HIV are on treatment today because India has produced high quality and low-cost generic drugs.
Over 86 per cent of the positive people are accessing treatment globally because of India,” Michel Sidibe, Executive Director, UNAIDS, said.

India’s fundamental role in the global response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic came to the fore today with the UNAIDS chief giving the country’s robust pharmaceutical sector credit for improved global survival rates and treatment possibilities by meeting bulk of the global drug demand at phenomenally low costs.
India exports drugs to 200 countries.

Sidibe, who is in India close on the heels of the UN high level meet on HIV/AIDS where world leaders committed themselves to “zero new infections, zero discrimination and zero deaths due to AIDS” in June, went on to say that the world would not be able to realise its shared vision of zero infections without India’s leadership. “India’s role is critical; without its leadership, we can’t achieve the goal we have committed ourselves to,” he said. Elaborating on the impact of Indian drugs, Sidibe, who hails from Africa (which bears the highest burden of AIDS), said Africa had reduced new HIV infections by 33 per cent over the past decade and posted a 12-fold increase in persons living with HIV.

“This has happened because India made available cheap anti- retroviral drugs,” he said. Considering that 96 per cent HIV treatment cost around the world is met from donations outside of those countries, Sidibe has urged India not to buckle under pressure from developed countries that want to use TRIPS (Trade Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights) to patent HIV drugs, thus pushing up costs.

“India has to resist attempts of TRIPS being used to block its ability to produce cheap drugs that are saving people’s lives,” said the UNAIDS chief, triggering strong responses from Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad.

PaloAlto, California July 6,2011..
Facebook introduced video calling, group chat and a new design on Wednesday during the social network's much-heralded "awesome" announcement.Wearing his signature grey t-shirt and blue jeans, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg announced the features at a press conference in Palo Alto, Calif.
Facebook Video Calling was developed with Skype, the world's largest Internet phone company. Users with a webcam on their computer will have to install a special plug-in before they can make calls using Facebook from inside their web browser.
Callers will be able to see and hear the recipient, and vice-versa.
With the group chat feature, users can talk with several other Facebook friends at the same time using only text.

"We think this is going to be something that's really valuable," Zuckerberg said. "A lot of people have asked for it."In Canada, the new features will only be rolled out to a small percentage of users at first, a Facebook spokesperson told CTV.ca.
Group video calling is not yet supported and it was not clear how the feature would be available to mobile users. Zuckerberg said the new tools "are mostly web features."
The design changes are aimed to make it easier for users to see a list of friends they can chat with, while taking advantage of widescreen computer displays.

Wednesday's announcement from Facebook comes almost a week after Google launched its latest social network, Google+.

Google+ is accessible on an invite-only basis, but the company is keen to get a foothold in the social networking sector.

Lok Virsa Pehchaan / Jagga Dakku- An outlaw and Rebel Leader

                               Jagga jammeya te milan vadhaiyan

                                     Jagge mareya Lyllpur daka
                                        taran kharhak gayian.

 Jagga's Birth-
Jagga was born in 1901 or 1902 in village Burj Singh Wala, teh. Chunnian, distt. Kasur. Jagga's father Makhan Singh passed away when Jagga was only a small child. He grew up under the care of his Chacha Roop Singh and mother Bhagaan.

Makhan Singh and Bhagaan had six children before Jagga was born but nobody of them survived. At last Makhan Singh went to the nearby village Sodhiwala to meet and pay tribute to a saint Sodhi Inder Singh. Sodhi Inder Singh told them to buy a Bakkra (male goat) before the birth and told that it should be touched by the newly born. The Sage Inder Singh also told them to not to name the child with initials of J.

But when the child was born, an uncle of the child insited on naming the child Jagat Singh which was against the directions of the saint. In a few days Bakkra fell ill and died. So in the course 12 Bakkras died and were buried in the backyard. Finally young child survived by the great saint's blessings.

Jagga owned 10 muraba(250 acres of land) so he was not asked to do anything by his chacha and mother. He was grown up as a pampered child. Once he cut a lot of sugar cane from his one uncle and distributed those to his friends. For that, he was given a hard beating by his uncle. Jagga went at night and broke all the Tinds of his uncle's khuh and threw into the well. When this uncle told his shirika to go to the police and report against Jagga, the relatives asked him, "who told you to name him Jagga?" So he realized his mistake.

In village Burj Singh Wala, most families were Muslim Telis but only 17 or 18 families of Sidhu Jatts. Both communities used to live in harmony. When Jagga was in his teen age, he started to go wrestle at akhara (Open Wrestling Ring) with his friend Sohan Teli. Sohan Teli maitained his friendship with Jagga till the last breath of Jagga. Because of Jagga's fondness of wrestling, this is said in a folk song.

and Jagga Jatt's Story has been wonderfully described by Gurdas Maan..

Jagga's Family-
Jagga married Inder Kaur of village Talwandi. They had only a girl child, Gaabbo who is living now at village Vanwala near Lambi in Mukatsar distt. She is believed to be in her 80s now.

During the English rule, all the people of guts and independant nature were watched carefully by the British. Govt's first units of Informers were Patwari, Nambardar,Thanedar and Safedposh. Jagga was of a medium height, wheatish color, sharp features, strong body, trimmed beard and double ringed kunddian muchhan. One day Jagga went to Patwari to get the numbers (farad) of his land. Jagga paid no respect to the Parwari and paid no bribe. Patwari refused to give him the Farad. Jagga gave him the worst beating of his life that he had to give him farad and apologize as well.
And loved Jagga By Surinder Shinda..

                                                          Chhaviyan de ghund murh gaye.

Conversion of Jagga from Jatt to Dacoit
This Kacha Pul was located between Jagga's village Buraj and his in law's village Talwandi. Beharhwala's Nakai used to live at their Bhua's village in Talwandi. These Nakai had some relation with Maharja Ranjit Singh's in-laws and were very notorius for their evils. Nobody could cross the bridge without their permission. One day, when Jagga was going to cross the bridge, one of the Nakai hit his horse with bamboo club (daang) thus horse and Jagga both fell. Though Jagga was alone, Nakais were 5-6 brothers. They had a fierce fight and finally Jagge ne vahni paa lae (gave them a tough beating). Later those Nakais fled the area and settled in Lahore.

Jagga's fame in the area resulted in attracting the ire of the Jaildar of Kal Mokal. Jaildar considered Jagga's braveness to be a challange. He stucked Jagga in a false case and convicted him for 4 years in the jail. When Jagga got released and came back to Buraj, in those days in vill. Bhai Feru a theft incident happened. The inspector of the area was a person named Asgar Ali who was a friend of Jaildar. Both Jaildar and inspector found this theft incident to be another chance to harass Jagga. They called Jagga to apear at the police station but Jagga declined to go. The leading and friendly people of Jagga persuaded him to appear at Police station. Their names were Kehar singh and Mehal Singh of Kawaan village and Dulla Singh of Jajjal village. This Dulla Singh made Jagga his Dharam da Puttar. (In later days this Dulla Singh and his family killed 8 people and were hanged to death).

Jagga agreed to go to the police with them but on the way he disagreed to go as he thought the haughty nature of inspector Asgar Ali. He said his fellows clearly, "If this inspector said something insulting, that will be hard to swallow for me. That's why I'm not going back." From that day Jagga went underground and became a Dacoit. First he snatched a riffle from a police sapoy then another from Atma Singh of Acharke village.

The first decoity by Jagga was at village Ghumiari at some goldsmith's house. Ghumiari vilage is located at the border of Kasur and Lohore distts. Jagga's other companions were Jhanda Singh Nirmal Ke and Thakur Singh Mandeyali. They robbed all the gold from them and lit fire to Vahis(ledgers) which were the loan records of the poor mass. They shared the gold at Jhanda Singh's khuh which was almost 1/2 ser(4 pounds?) for everyone in the group. After that Jagga made his own group. His new members were Banta Singh, his childhood friend Sohna Teli,Lalu Nai (he was Kaana from one eye), Bholu and Bawa. Lalu Nai was an expert in cooking, when all used to sleep at night Lalu Nai was guarding them with riffle.

While Jagga made many decoities but his most famous decoities are of Sayadpur and Layllpur. Jagga's one nephew, Thakur Singh was the reader of D.S.P. That D.S.P. asked Thakur Singh for the help in capturing Jagga. When Thakur Singh went to Jagga with some offer, Jagga asked him to fulfil his long desire to make an encounter with D.S.P. Thakur Singh felt to be sandwitched in two troubles, Jagga and D.S.P., so he decided to be neutral.

This stage of Jagga's Life has been beautifully described by Kuldeep Manak...

A woman accidentally drove her Range Rover in reverse straight into a Queens drug store this morning, smashing through a window and hitting the check-out stations, authorities and witnesses said.

The driver was in her green luxurty vehicle in the parking lot of the Rite Aid on Woodhaven Boulevard and 65th street when she hit the gas while still in reverse, witnesses said. She sideswipped another driver's sedan and slammed into a front window of the drugstore around 11:30 a.m. The car went through the window, a concrete wall and pummeled into the check-out stations.

Authorities said that the driver was in stable condition and taken to Forest Hill Hospital. Two cashiers in the store also suffered minor injuries, and were taken to the hospital as well.

 :hehe:

Well, Its not funny.. this can happen too.. :pagel:

NewYork-  Rosy Mizrachi Gindi of Brooklyn got one of the rings at the Chanel store on East 57th Streetstuck on her finger and wound up in the emergency room for three hours trying to get it off, proving that the old-timey remedy of slathering up your finger in lotion doesn't always do the trick.

Doctors were able to remove the ring—which her lawyer says is worth "at least $10,000"—without cutting it. (Were there Chanel security guards looming over their shoulders at the hospital, perhaps?) Now, she's suing Chanel for unspecified damages in Brooklyn Supreme Court. We're kind of thinking that maybe the lawsuit is to cover up the embarrassment of getting caught in Chanel trying to squeeze a too-small ring on your finger and getting it stuck in front of the salespeople.

What do you think.. Its reasonable or ridiculous?

I loved this one.. playing over this since morning.. :hehe:

In commemoration of legendary musician Les Paul, who would have been 96 today, Google’s homepage has been transformed into an interactive guitar. The doodle features a stylized guitar that lets you mouse over the strings to make music, and even record your song. Recordings can be up to 30 seconds long and the site gives a URL for the recording so rocker-wannabe’s can show off to their friends.

AMRITSAR: Three Punjabi youths, who were convicted of murder and released from Sharjah prison on May 29 after payment of blood money, reached Amritsar on Tuesday.

The three -- Kashmiri Lal, Tarlochan Singh and Pardeep Kumar -- denied having any involvement in the killing of a fellow Punjabi.

"It's like a second life for all of us," said Pardeep as he was greeted by his relatives at the city airport. "No one should go abroad for some extra money... you might fall in trouble," he advised.

The three were sentenced to death by a Dubai Court
on charges of their involvement in the murder of Bikramjit Singh in 2008. They were set free by Dubai-based NGO Sarbat Da Bhala that deposited Rs 18 lakh blood money in the court to secure their release. Founder of the NGO SP Singh Oberoi, who also accompanied the youth till here, said there were around 60 Punjabis facing similar charges in Sharjah jail.
