BCOM degree
« on: June 08, 2011, 10:33:59 AM »

Anyone know anything about this degree cuz I'm plainly dumbfounded.

Is the degree recognised in the US? If so, can you apply for a graduate degree ex: MBA in US universities with no work experience?

Also, can you get jobs with just a BCOM degree in the US?

I googled a bit and didn't get any clarification.

Any enlightenment is appreciated!

well from what i know that bachelor of commerce in india is not a four year program therefore, its not equivalent to normal bachelors degree in states...from people i know i have heard some people saying its pretty worthless and others saying they have to get further schooling as a undergrad before  they can apply for MBA programs. but then again it depends where you got your degree from and which school you are applying to...like for the school i went to.. i have heard that if you have a 3 year Bachelors degree from india, you can take a exam to see if you can be considered to enter graduate program.

urrgghhh with a 3 yr degree, grad schools here won't even let you set a foot in them as far as I know.

I was googling, it mentioned about doing BCOM honours which is an additional year to the 3 yr BCOM. Which would therefore complete the 4 yr requirement. I'm still wondering if that happened, majority of the business schools require you to have work experience before enrolling in the grad programs - yes, no?

Hanji, B.com from India is recognized in U.S. but three years degree course don't fill requirement of 49.5 credit units which are specific requirement for MBA program in states. so usually international students first join MBA bridge program ( one year duration) which is provided by number of schools.

Other requirements for MBA program for International students..
1. TOEFL or  IELTS r required..( This is must)
TOEFL- 250(Computer based), 600 (paper based), IELTS minimum requirement of 7 for a very good school. Otherwise there r schools where less than this is acceptable too.
2.GMAT a score of minimum 550 is acceptable or GRE 480 ( Verbal) and 570 (quantitative) is acceptable.( this GRE and GMAT is waived off in many schools)
3. Work experience of 2-4 years ( this is waived off by some schools too )

So Get your B.com evaluated by WES even sometimes u dont need to do that even, some schools do it for you.

So this is all required for B.com passed, MBA aspirant in U.S.

Kudrat - What is WES? I've ran across it while researching online as well =/
   I guess it evaluates credentialing...

Also, are there any jobs you can get into with just a Bcom here?

Ya They do credential evaulation.. ik baar tusi course by course karwa lawo and they keep that record forever with them then you have to just send them one email and they will forward your evaluation to any school or employer or immigration people.
And this evaluation is recognized everywhere in US. because India don't have credit units and GPA system so they do evaluation of Indian Markseets according to States requirements.. For admission into any school , u need to submit this evaluation.

Baki for jobs.. As far as I know, Unfortunately no job market for B.com passed , but ya if he or she would do some diploma in accountacy or finance here in US  then there could be chance otherwise no..
