So My Fav NBA Team Dallas Mavericks selected Satnam Singh in 2015 NBA draft. I'm Happy cuz i know my fav player Dirk Nowitzki is at that age. where i can see he has about 2 more good years in left in him. so i will be looking forward to see him play in NBA...he not NBA ready yet it will take him about 2 3 years to be NBA ready. Dallas Mavs Owner made smart move Business wise. Satnam allowed him to Tap in indian market.

Even though Sim Bhullar was first Indian (punjabi) to play in NBA last season. but he was not born in india.

! No longer available

(CNN)Making it big in basketball had long been a dearly held dream for Satnam Singh.

Making it happen was another matter.

Growing up in a remote village in India's Punjab province, he was destined to become a farmer -- like his father and his father's father.

But that's the thing about dreams. With hard work -- and, in Singh's case, a ginormous frame -- they sometimes come true.

On Thursday, he became the first basketball player from India to be drafted by an NBA team.

The Dallas Mavericks selected the 7-foot-2-inch, 19-year-old with the 52nd pick in the draft.

He's not expected to make the team right away, but rather will put in time at the Development League level.

But his arrival is a big moment for India.

For the moment, Singh is little known in his homeland, where cricket is by far the biggest sport and few follow the American National Basketball Association.

But success in the United States could change that -- in the same way China's Yao Ming galvanized interest in basketball in his country.

That's certainly what the Mavs are counting on.

"We certainly created a legend," owner Mark Cuban said. "There's a billion new Mavs fans out there right now."

Spotting potential
The village of Billoke is a tiny one in the proud state of Punjab, home of turbaned Sikh men and Bhangra music.

Singh's father, Balbir Singh, works the flour mills and raises dairy cows, just like many of the men in the village of 3,000.

But one thing set Balbir Singh apart: In a land where the average man is 5 feet 4 inches, he towered over others by a full two feet.

It's a genetic trait that even Satnam Singh, even at a young age, was exhibiting.

An eagle-eyed sports enthusiast recognized the potential in his friend's 9 -year-old son, who was already 5 feet 9 inches by then.

"I can make out from his height that he could become a good player," Rajinder Singh told CNN in 2012. "I took him to the ground to practice. Day by day he excelled and touched greater heights."

Coming to America
Soon after, he arrived in the United States to train at a basketball academy. He was separated from his parents by more than 8,000 miles, connected to them only through Skype. He missed home, he said. And he missed the food.

But he had one dream, and knew that if he practiced hard and put his heart into it, it could be his.

"I wish to become the greatest player in the world," he told CNN. "I want to uphold the honor of India, the USA and of my coach and make basketball a prominent sport in India."

Three years later, he's made the draft -- and made history.

Sports Khelan / Sim Bhullar Signed by Kings:
« on: June 27, 2014, 06:51:46 PM »
The biggest man of the 2014 NBA draft is soon to be the biggest man in Sacramento.

Sim Bhullar, a 7'5" New Mexico State center who burst onto the scene at this year's NCAA tournament, wasn't selected in the draft itself, but the Kings will reportedly sign the big man on Friday.

TNT's David Aldridge had the news:

He was not listed among the top 100 players ranked by ESPN's Chad Ford (subscription required), while DraftExpress had him 73rd—well out of the 60-player range selected at Brooklyn's Barclays Center.

Lightly regarded coming out of high school, Bhullar initially committed to Xavier before heading to New Mexico State. Playing near-identical roles in each of his two seasons, he led the Aggies to consecutive NCAA tournament berths and became infamous in college basketball circles for his size.

He's listed at 7'5" and 360 pounds, which would make him instantly the league's biggest player and one of the largest in history.

As a sophomore, Bhullar averaged 10.4 points, 7.8 rebounds and 3.4 blocks per game. Factoring in his 64.8 field-goal percentage, it was only fair to be curious about a player who made the Julius Randles of the world look like point guards.

Nevertheless, Bhullar's decision to forgo his final two years of eligibility was met with mild surprise. Imposing in stature, the Aggies big man still has a long way to go in his NBA development. His movements lack a fluidity and self-confidence that NBA teams look for in their big men; he's the very definition of the word raw.

Even in the second round—where contracts are non-guaranteed and teams are far more willing to take risks—Bhullar seemed like perhaps a step too far. But the towering big man kept faith.

He trained at the Impact Basketball Academy in Las Vegas, shedding excess weight and working on bringing more fluidity to his game. In workouts, teams came away impressed with his positive disposition, and he began to creep slightly into the second-round conversation.

"It's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity," Bhullar told CBC News of the draft process. "Not everybody gets to do it…so it's an honor and a blessing and I just thank God every day for putting me in this situation."

Now that he's defied the odds and been selected, the real work starts.

Bhullar is not guaranteed an NBA job, but this is an encouraging sign nonetheless.

He has a long way to go until he joins the Thomases of the world. The Kings will likely put him on their own conditioning program, and then it'd be a mild surprise if he did not start his career in the NBA D-League.

That said, Bhullar's has accomplished his goal of being an NBA player. He now has to figure out a way to get on the floor.

« on: October 28, 2012, 01:56:02 AM »
The Rockets sent Kevin Martin, Jeremy Lamb and future draft considerations to the Thunder for Harden, sources told Y! Sports. Along with Harden, the Thunder will send Cole Aldrich, Lazar Hayward and Daequan Cook to the Rockets.

Houston also sent two 2013 first-round picks (from Dallas and Toronto) to Oklahoma City, sources told Y! Sports, as well as a 2013 second-round pick (via Charlotte). The Thunder will receive the Toronto pick this year if it's slotted Nos. 4-14. That pick also is top-three protected in 2014, top-two protected in 2015 and top-one protected in 2016.

News Khabran / Neha Dhupia in a Punjabi film
« on: September 26, 2012, 09:10:48 PM »
People have a constant grouse that I don't do enough masala films, so I'm going to address that complaint now," says Neha Dhupia when asked about her upcoming projects. The actress begins that effort with a Punjabi film with friend Jimmy Shergill. movie named "Rangeeley"

"Jimmy's one of my producers on the film and he is one of the biggest stars in Punjabi cinema. When I was approached for this, I was very happy to say yes. I'm anyway comfortable with the language and I'm playing a really simple girl next door," she says. Of course, there's also the item number she'll be doing in Tigmanshu Dhulia's next, and after that, says Neha, it'll be one masala platter hopefully!

Gup Shup / A sweet lesson on Patience.

A NYC Taxi driver wrote:

I arrived at the address and honked the horn. After waiting a few minutes I honked again. Since this was going to be my last ride of my shift I thought about just driving away, but instead I put the car in park and walked up to the door and knocked.. 'Just a minute', answered a frail, elderly voice. I could hear something being dragged across the floor.

After a long pause, the door opened. A small woman in her 90's stood before me. She was wearing a print dress and a pillbox hat with a veil pinned on it, like somebody out of a 1940's movie.

By her side was a small nylon suitcase. The apartment looked as if no one had lived in it for years. All the furniture was covered with sheets.

There were no clocks on the walls, no knickknacks or utensils on the counters. In the corner was a cardboard
box filled with photos and glassware.

'Would you carry my bag out to the car?' she said. I took the suitcase to the cab, then returned to assist the woman.

She took my arm and we walked slowly toward the curb.

She kept thanking me for my kindness. 'It's nothing', I told her.. 'I just try to treat my passengers the way I would want my mother to be treated.'

'Oh, you're such a good boy, she said. When we got in the cab, she gave me an address and then asked, 'Could you drive
through downtown?'

'It's not the shortest way,' I answered quickly..

'Oh, I don't mind,' she said. 'I'm in no hurry. I'm on my way to a hospice.

I looked in the rear-view mirror. Her eyes were glistening. 'I don't have any family left,' she continued in a soft voice..'The doctor says I don't have very long.' I quietly reached over and shut off the meter.

'What route would you like me to take?' I asked.

For the next two hours, we drove through the city. She showed me the building where she had once worked as an elevator operator.

We drove through the neighborhood where she and her husband had lived when they were newlyweds She had me pull up in front of a furniture warehouse that had once been a ballroom where she had gone dancing as a girl.

Sometimes she'd ask me to slow in front of a particular building or corner and would sit staring into the darkness, saying nothing.

As the first hint of sun was creasing the horizon, she suddenly said, 'I'm tired.Let's go now'.
We drove in silence to the address she had given me. It was a low building, like a small convalescent home, with a driveway that passed under a portico.

Two orderlies came out to the cab as soon as we pulled up. They were solicitous and intent, watching her every move.
They must have been expecting her.

I opened the trunk and took the small suitcase to the door. The woman was already seated in a wheelchair.

'How much do I owe you?' She asked, reaching into her purse.

'Nothing,' I said

'You have to make a living,' she answered.

'There are other passengers,' I responded.

Almost without thinking, I bent and gave her a hug.She held onto me tightly.

'You gave an old woman a little moment of joy,' she said. 'Thank you.'

I squeezed her hand, and then walked into the dim morning light.. Behind me, a door shut.It was the sound of the closing of a life..

I didn't pick up any more passengers that shift. I drove aimlessly lost in thought. For the rest of that day,I could hardly talk. What if that woman had gotten an angry driver,or one who was impatient to end his shift? What if I had refused to take the run, or had honked once, then driven away?

On a quick review, I don't think that I have done anything more important in my life.

We're conditioned to think that our lives revolve around great moments.

But great moments often catch us unaware-beautifully wrapped in what others may consider a small one.
