I'm not sure I understand the problem exactly. Like the reasoning behind having an idle status.
As I see it, your last page request is seen as online and it keeps you one the online list for 15 minutes, after which it says... offline (if there are no subsequent page requests).

PJ is not a web app, it is more of a forum. Although I've made modifications to make it more of a web app with the Punjabi Facebook.
