EDMONTON - Kyle Fundytus, the 16-year-old Edmonton minor hockey player who died on the weekend after being struck in the neck with a puck, was a Grade 11 student at Holy Trinity High School in Mill Woods.
Holy Trinity principal Cathy Nissen issued this statement early Monday:
During this difficult time the students and staff of Holy Trinity High School will look to our collective faith to find understanding and strength as we all mourn the loss of Kyle. The unexpected and tragic circumstances of his death have us all remembering ... just how precious life is.
Kyle loved sports and he loved hockey. He loved life, with his parents and sister and with his friends who were so important to him. Kyle’s smile and sense of humour will be forever remembered in the halls of Holy Trinity.
We have grief counsellors available on-site today, and throughout the week, to assist students and staff as they come to terms with the loss of one of our students.
Although it is extremely difficult today to see beyond our sorrow, the staff and students appreciate the support of the community during this difficult time.
Please respect the family’s wishes for privacy and in turn mine … to not speak to staff or students at Holy Trinity!
