The action was ordered by the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan chief for Orakzai Agency, Hakeemullah Mehsud, after the deadline given to the Sikh community for payment of Jazia passed on Wednesday.
Earlier, the Sikh community had postponed its decision about vacating the area following the demand of the Tehrik-i-Taliban for payment of ‘Jazia’ being non-Muslims for their protection.
They gathered in the Merozai area to finalise their decision for leaving the area, but a dispute erupted over the issue among them and the meeting was postponed till Thursday.
The Taliban had asked the Sikh community living in the tribal area for centuries earlier this month to pay annual Jazia because ‘Sharia had been enforced in the area and every non-Muslim had to pay protection money’.
The Sikh community comprising 30 to 35 families shifted from the Feroze Khel area to the nearby Merozai in Lower Orakzai Agency because they could not arrange Rs150 million demanded by the Taliban.
The Taliban had forcibly occupied shops of two Sikh businessmen, Sewa Singh and Kalak Singh, and houses of several Sikhs to force them to pay Jazia. Later, the Sikh community refused to pay Jazia and decided to leave Orakzai and settle in some other area.
Most of tribal families belonging to a particular sect have also migrated to different parts of Hangu and Kohat due to the fear of Taliban.

LONDON, UK (KP) - Several observant members of the Sikh sangat in United Kingdon reported that in past few months, several attempts have taken place in some parts of the country in which blasphemous statements have been used to address dhur-ki-bani of Guru Gobind Singh Ji. During a recently held nagar kirtan in United Kingdom, a group of misguided youth passed out flyers with bani of Dasam Granth Sahib. Luckily, local sangat took notice of the incident and stopped the youth from spreading venom. Although these youth had provided their email and phone number on the flyer, they have refused any possibility of discussion on the subject. The individuals responsible for misconduct misquoted a few panktees from some charitars from Dasam Granth Sahib. Interestingly, they also attacked banis such as Krishna Avtar and Chaubees Avtar but failed to cite any questionable verses. Panktees from the Charitropankhyan are often misquoted and cited out of context. Anything can be taken out of context if someone wants to be mal-intentioned. If anyone wishes to question any parts of Dasam Granth Sahib, they need to refute starting from the beginning, not randomly or from the end. Example of a misleading leaflet handed out at a UK Nagar Kirtan: (Click to view larger image) In addition, the mischievous persons responsible for such wrongdoing have also labeled various Panthic Intsitutions (Akal Takht Sahib, Damdami Taksal, Nihung Singh Dals) as affiliates of the Rashtriya Swamsevak Sangh. The sangat appealed to organizers/committee members of various Gurdwara Sahibs, schools, nagar kirtans and smagams to not allow such acts in the future. While Dasam Granth Sahib remains a unique scripture of the Khalsa, some notorious individuals including Gurbaksh Kala Afghana, Ragi Darshan Singh and Inder Ghaggha are touring international countries to spread venom against Panthic traditions. While Kala Afghana has been excommunicated by Akal Takht Sahib, both Ragi Darshan Singh and Inder Ghaggha have been warned to stop propaganda against Dasam Granth Sahib. Not very long ago, a conclave of almost all eminent Panthic organizations held a convention at Damdama Sahib in which several resolutions were passed to ensure reverence of Dasam Granth Sahib. The program was organized mainly to challenge Ragi Darshan Singh to sit down with his Sikh brethren however despite the invitation being provided months ago, the Ragi notoriously declined to attend. Having failed at accepting the challenge to Panthic scholars, the Ragi has continued with his international tours where he preaches against Dasam Granth Sahib. Panthic sevadars stressed that as member of the Sikh community, we must not forget that: 1. Akal Takht Sahib is the most superior temporal authority of the Sikh Nation 2. Anti-Dasam Granth Sahib personnel have been labeled as mischievous by a hukamnama of Akal Takht Sahib Ji. 3. Panthic scholars including Bhai Kahn Singh Nabha, Bhai Randhir Singh, Bhai Pyara Singh Padam, Giani Gurbachan Singh Bhindrawale, Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindrawale respected the Dasam Granth Sahib as being penned by Guru Gobind Singh Ji. 4. Historical hukamnamas and life stories mention the importance of Dasam Granth Sahib for the Sikh Nation. Misguided individuals, such as the ones handing out anti-Dasam Bani leaflets should first fully understand the concept and contents of the Dasam Granth Sahib before openly questioning them. There is nothing wrong in raising questions, however posing questions without seeking answers does not do justice. CHANDIGARH (KP)-- In a recently released statement, well known Human Rights advocate, Navkiran Singh discloded that he had filed a petition in the High Court of Punjab and Haryana a year back, wherein Jathedar Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara's solitary confinement was challenged.
The grounds were that the Supreme Court of India had, through its full bench judgements, held that a person who is waiting to be executed cannot be kept in solitary confinement, as the jail administration has not been directed by the court to keep that person in solitary confinement, and since lodging an inmate in solitary confinement was a punishment under the law.
"Hawara has been kept in a small cell, from where he is taken out for one hour in the morning and in the evening and the rest of the time he cannot even see sunshine."
Hawara has also challenged the actions by Burail Jail Chandigarh not allowing him to meet his close relatives and also not making available to him a religious minister, to which he was entitled under the Punjab Jail manual.
The counsel submitted before the court that jail authorities are unnecessarily mentally torturing Hawara and are not even allowing him basic facilities to which he is entitled under the Law. Even his defense lawyers, under fear of false implication in some case, have not met Hawara for a long time in the fixed meeting place. They only meet him when he is produced in court and also right under the nose of the jail staff and intelligence officials, who overhear each word uttered by Hawara or his counsels instead of in private.
Bhai Sahib Hawara has been kept in a small cell, from where he is taken out for one hour in the morning and in the evening and the rest of the time he cannot even see sunshine. Its also very alarming to note that Hawara has never been allowed to write or receive letters from his relatives or friends and even the letters of his counsels, which as per the Jail rules, cannot be read by anyone, are not handed over to him.
Hawara’s Counsel has complained to the court of the sadistic attitude of the Jail authorities, however the decision on the case is now expected to be on 21st Nov 2009.
