 I came across this article while on Democraticsunderground.com . (#OBAMA2012! :superhappy:)


 It's sad to see such religious intolerance in this day of age.

Basically the mayor of Garrett, Indiana.. Named Tonya Hoeffel.. Walked into a Punjabi man's convienence store, and she saw some informational pamphlets about the Sikh religion. (Keep in mind  this was less then a month after The Oak Creek Gurudwara Massacre). She read through the pamphlets and then WALKED TOWARDS THE TRASH BIN AND THREW THEM AWAY. When Kulwinder Singh, the owner, asked her why she did that.. she replied that 'It was against my Belief. It's against Christianity'.

She has since apologized, and Singh has accepted the apology.

What do you think? Does any official have a right to walk onto SOMEONE's property and do that? Should she be fired/punished for this?

I don't think she should be charged with a crime. She should just live with the fact that she is ignorant and intolerant to other religions.

Isn't that, after all.. What this country is based off of? Religious freedom? Why can't we co-exist in this country? Why is there a double standard regarding Politicians who claim they fight for freedom and religion?

It is very sad to read this. There's always discrimination against all races, sometimes it is in the open and other times behind the back.

dont be naive...All religions are the same, but reason we have different religions is to reflect our culture, which is why Chritianity is European and therefore White centric, certainly the US version...when that Sikh guy read out the prayer at the Republican convention all members were told not to bow their heads as his God was Foreign...only Sikhs ( and to an extent Muslims) believe in one God theory..Sikhs more so, believe that God-nature is the same, but no one else believes that

And yes Sikhs look like Osama, and are brown, and English is not their mother tongue, though way Punjab is going it soon will be...

The woman doesn't want to read or know anything about sikhism. Is that a sin? She's not open minded but you can't force anybody to want to know about the teachings of sikhism! sure it wasn't necessary for her to throw away the pamphlets but otherwise you're overreacting.
