HISTORY OF SAHEED Udham Singh
« on: June 25, 2010, 04:34:59 PM »
HouseOfBhangra.co.uk - Jazzy B - Udham Singh

Udham Singh was a Sikh Indian independence activist, best known for assassinating Michael O'Dwyer in March 1940 in what has been described as an avenging of the Jallianwalla Bagh Massacre.[1]

Singh was also known as Ram Mohammed Singh Azad, symbolizing the unification of the three major religions of India: Hinduism, Islam and Sikhism. Singh is considered one of the best-known of the more extremist revolutionaries of the Indian freedom struggle; he is also sometimes referred to as Shaheed-i-Azam Sardar Udham Singh (the expression "Shaheed-i-Azam," Urdu: شهید اعظم, means "the great martyr"). Bhagat Singh and Udham Singh along with Chandrasekhar Azad, Rajguru and Sukhdev, were the more famous names out of scores of young firebrand freedom fighters in the early part of 20th-century India. These young men believed their motherland would win her freedom only through the forceful removal of the British rulers. For their strong belief in the use of violent means to achieve India's freedom, a nervous England labelled these men as "India's earliest Marxists/Bolsheviks".[2]

In 1940, almost 21 years after the Amritsar Massacre of 1919 in Punjab province of India, Singh shot the unsuspecting 76 years old Michael O'Dwyer while he was attending a lecture meet at Caxton Hall in London. O'Dwyer had been Governor of the Punjab in 1919, when Colonel Reginald Edward Harry Dyer ordered British troops to fire on unarmed Indian protesters, who included many Sikhs.

Bhagat Singh is a great hero of mine and I have done a lot of study into his life. However, regarding Udhan Singh Shaheed I have also studied a fair bit about him.

Your above post is factually incorrect

"Singh was also known as Ram Mohammed Singh Azad, symbolizing the unification of the three major religions of India: Hinduism, Islam and Sikhism." is questionable and, I suspect, illogical.

First reason is this: Bhagat Singh was a hero of Udham Singh's. He was a revolutionary Marxist and as such his life had a great influence on Udham Singh. Both were atheists. Therefore the question of unification of religion is a concoction and an example of history being twisted. He, like Bhagat Singh before him, had a dislike for Nehru, Jinnah and especially Ghandi. He also did not trust the Hindu Congress party at the time.

Second reason is also true and it is this, I have with my own eyes, seen the released papers of Udham Singh’s arrest and trial. Nowhere does he state that his name is Ram Mohammed Singh Azad. Udham Singh liked to call himself Mohammad Singh Azad and not Ram Mohammad Singh Azad, as is propagated by the so-called secularists of the country. He was born in a poor family which had converted to Sikhism after his birth, because of the oppressive structure of Hinduism. So he could not use 'Ram' as prefix to make himself a secular hero.

Thirdly, Raj Babbar made that God awful film about 'Shaheed Udham Singh' which is a typical Bollywood bit of nonsense which claims it presents an authentic picture of the revolutionary martyr; it simply does not.

Until you see the actual court papers and the arresting Police papers (there were seven county Police Constabularies involved) can you really see what happened. What is sad is the fact that the whole of India and Indians outside the UK as well as many within the UK are being fooled and the legend of Udham Singh and Bhagat Singh are being diluted with complete untruths.
