I think this concept/style of doing kirtan was originally started by the White Sikhs (white people who accepted Sikhism), because I have listened to them doing kirtan this way much before than now.

Raag kirtan style with acoustic guitar strumming is quite a nice urban combination.

She's strumming the guitar in a kind of an open strumming style, and not exactly picking.This style is more suitable for kirtan.However if you listen closely to the other kirtans by them, you'll know that there's a second guitar doing the picks real skillfully.

I think she has pretty decent guitar skills.
