Why do people argue so much on this forum over religion? I may have posted this before but once again, religion isn't above everything. But we have to move with the time, our gurus sacrifice for sikhism will never be forgotten. Praying at a gurdwara and praying at home is same thing. Unlike some people who think they are more religious just because they go to the gurdwara. People over seas tend to be way more religious than people living in Punjab. The thing that annoys me the most is they go extreme over religion.  Bhagat Singh and Udam singh cut their hair, we still treat with so much respect, why? because they did something that made a big difference. Just because Udham Singh changed his name to Ram Mohammed Singh Azad, does it make him less of sikh than all of us? NO. As long as you are making a difference, then you are doing your part as sikh. Now about your situation, I don't know If he wants to wear the turban because he wants to become more connected to sikhism or he wants to wear it for fashion (shounk). Just because I don't wear a turban as of now, it doesn't make me less of sikh than anybody else. Coming generations are less likely to wear turbans.

I wasn't, I was just trying to use it as a reference on how adults are just as bad as youngsters. Its true though.

Thank you!!!! could not have asked! for a better answer.  =D> =D> =D>  He wants to wear the turban and grow a beard to be more connected as it seems. I really just don't think he should. It makes me crazy that he wants to.

wo wo wo....
sat sri akal 22 ji........
its not only about turban .. its about the rehat you need to follow to call yourself a sikh
and first rule in rehat is to follow these things ........
its our gurus hukum........
and if you are not following the rehat then you are not a sikh .......... as simple as that......
and about bhagat singh and udam singh they were proper sikh ......
they cut their hair for nation's sake......
but people these days are doing it for fashion........
it is fine do whatever you want nobody is stopping you.....
but you have then no right to call ur self sikh if you are not following the rehat......

there is nothing like less of a sikh or proper sikh ........
you are either a sikh or not a sikh.......

sat sri akal
waheguru ji ka khalsa waheguru ji ki fateh
Do you wear a turban and have a beard?

y u wanna know go away :D: u come everytime like smt ur bf wanna be sikh what true sikh must do all go and ask ur bf what is sikhi
waheguru! i'm only giving a statement in hopes of other sikhs would agree with me that it doesn't make you less of a sikh just because you don't look like 1. I've discussed with my bf, i'm trying to convince him not to go for it, he still wants to. So now i'm looking for help somewhere else.

Well you know what kind of gf would that make me if i don't support him, but in return i do expect him to think about it carefully. Every relationship goes through s**t, you gotta learn to work together, can't just give up over a turban and a beard.

ok do me a favour.........

take a print out this and give it to your bf...

These days some Sikhs are replacing Turban by a small piece of cloth or cap on their heads. Do they want to lose their Sikh identity out of fashion or ignorance or to imitate other persons/communities? O Brothers! You are being eclipsed. You are being deviated by the cleverer people and being victimized. You are being deprived of your character. Your manly look is being effeminated. Nay, you are being disfigured. You are being made a victim of the vices. You are being duped by flimsy honours. Your Turban is being taken off. It has brought you all the honours in past. It has made you a "Sardaar", why loose it? Remember, our great Heritage is our Pride. Why to lose it? Recollect the Greatness of our Guru Sahib and sacrifices of Four Sahibzadeys and thousands brave Sikhs to whom we daily remember in our Prayer. Let us adapt ourselves in the image of Guru Gobind Singh Sahib. Maintain your relations with your Guru and preserve your position of a Singh of the Guru. That is the only secret behind our Name and Fame in the World. "Keep your head high with a Turban intact and Take care of it". We should always remember Guru Gobind Singh’s Divine Word: "So long as the Khalsa maintains his Identity, He shall remain imbued with my vitality".

Don't!!!  :thaa: :thaa: :thaa: :thaa:  i can read! you know. Just because i said i'd support him doesn't mean i'm encouraging him to go for it. But that's exactly what i need, except opposite to what it's saying.   Like something to support my statement.

A proper sikh is someone who practices the 3 principles
1. Naam Japna : remembering God Through Meditation.
2. Kirat Karo: Earning An Honest Living.
3. Vand Chakko: Selflessly serving others, sharing income and resources.
Top Ten Beliefs :- :excited:

1. Worship One God - Acknowledge one creator. Do not worship demi-gods or idols.
2. Treat Everyone Equally - Do not show distinction or rank because of race, class, or gender
3. Live By the Three Primary Principle - Be always absorbed in meditation and prayer.
Make an honest income by honorable methods.
Share earnings and selflessly serve others.

4.Avoid the Five Sins of Ego - Practice daily prayer and meditation to reduce the effects of ego and prevent indulgence in:
 Pride
 Lust
 Greed
 Anger
 Attachment

Become BaptizedBe spiritually reborn by taking part in the baptism ceremony conducted by the "Five Beloved" Sikhs, who prepare and administer immortalizing nectar to initiates
Keep the Code of HonorLive according to specific individual, and communal, ethical and spiritual commitments. Forsake worldly ties. Abide by the guru's teachings. Practice daily worship.
Wear the Five Articles of FaithWear the Sikh undergarment for modesty and health.
Wear a wooden comb in the turban to keep hair clean and untangled.
Wear a steel wristlet as a sign of faith.
Wear hair uncut, to honor the creator’s intention.
Wear a small sword symbolic of defending the religious rights of all faiths.

Follow the Four CommandmentsDo not dishonor the creator’s intention by cutting the hair.
Do not harm the body with tobacco or other intoxicants.
 Do not eat sacrificial meat.
 Do not commit adultery.

Recite the Five Daily PrayersRepeat the morning prayers.
 Repeat the evening prayer.
 Repeat the bedtime prayer.
10. Take Part in FellowshipWorship together and sing God’s praise.
 Cook and eat together.
 Serve each other.

There's more ...
Kakar refers to any or all of the five articles of the Sikh faith: Kachhera ,Kanga ,Kara, Kes, Kirpan

Somtimes called simply the 5 K's. An Amritdhari, or initiated Sikh is required to wear all of the 5 K's during the Sikh baptism, or initiation ceremony of Amrit, and there after. The articles are to be kept on or with the person at all times.

Because the name of each one of the five articles begins with the letter (or sound of) K, they are commonly called the five K's or kakar(s). The kakar each have a practical function.
*** You alwys have to wear these 5 things ***** 8->
Hope it helps :okk:
