well I definitely don't think that a parent should force their child to cut or not to cut their hair because if you try to force them you will make them do the opposite just because they don't like the fact they are being "forced" into their parents wants.
Parents should try to tell them the meaning behind it and the importance of it in your Religion/Culture. They shouldn’t put final decision on their kids. It does not do any good if you’re just putting your decision upon them.
Baki rahi gal ohna loka di long hair rakhde and shave/trim their beard...i believe that guys who keep long hair and tie as a ponytail and shave off their beard not only look hideous but it's a disrespect to all the reasons they might even want to keep their hair. baki apni apni soachni a :hehe: who am i to say anything about anyone. Its always easy to judge other than ourselves.

actually, i know someone with a similar story ...the kid loved basketball ...i still remember we used to watch/play basketball and he used to say "didi, i'll be the first sardar playing in nba" when he was about 9 or 10 yrs old..when his mom kinda encouraged him into cutting his hair and as a child he did...however after few years he realized that's not who he is ..and he grew em again...now he is 18 i believe.... personally, both sides (nanke and dadke) of my family encourage kids to keep their hair considering bunch of them are amrit dhari...there are few here n there kids that are not but not all parents are all that strict and most of them believe that the child will the stage of realization and keep it on their own..some have done that.. but yeah i do believe parents have a lot to do with what kinds of path one child may go into however ...you can't really make anyone in the world we live in today. ajj kal di peeri ta koi suggestion sunni b ni chounda :hehe: gal manni ta bohat door di gal a. :hehe:
