Tech Lounge / ‘Invisible Glass’ — Solves Screen Reflection Problems
« on: December 13, 2011, 11:09:16 AM »
Can you imagine computer monitors and smartphones with almost no reflection on its front-display panel? So don’t be surprised if this problem will find its solution really soon as Nippon Glass Co. a Japanese firm has been successful on creating an anti-reflection film that ultimately reduces the amount of reflection the light rays cast when passing through the normal glass.

So how the anti-reflection film works? The glass is naturally transparent but the light passing through it was being reflected back into our eyes, making the glass visible. Working on that theory, Nippon’s scientist built a non-reflecting film on both sides of the glass. The normal glass, the substrate allows 92% of light rays to pass through while reflecting back the rest 8% while with film the light that pass through was brought to amount of 99.5%, which means only 0.5% of the light is reflected back. So basically the film reduces the light that bounces back to our eyes making the glass practically invisible.

The Nippon non-reflecting film was exhibited at FPD international where the visitors were left surprised when their eyes couldn’t make out the presence of glass in front of them.

When we saw the 42nd Tokyo Motor Show 2011(online) ,  got a weird feeling that in spite of all the hypes about the Electric Vehicles, our good old fashion gasoline driven vehicles are here to stay for a long haul. How long exactly? No one knows, probably for another 20 to 30 years or even more. On the surface there are no competitions when it comes to fuel efficiency and zero-emission, but in reality lots of effort is going to make the gasoline engine more fuel efficient to meet the Japanese government criteria on fuel efficient society with set of deadline which is at the dismal level of 30% less CO2 emission in comparison to Zero offered by their EVs counterparts. EV conceptual vehicles in the show were all labeled as something fun to drive a mere marketing tactic to sell the sleek aero dynamic body with multitude of cool looking features that average consumers do not care so much about. Among some of these new concepts was Honda’s EV-STER electric sports car. The new EV-STER features an easy to operate twin-lever steering which was adopted in pursuit of the joy of driving. Furthermore, the new EV-STER allows its driver to make own adjustment such as motor output and suspension settings.

The new vehicle’s instrument panel features not only meters but among some other things, displays vehicle information and network display used for audio and navigation systems as well as internet access. The new EV-STER has an acceleration power of 0 to 60 km/h in 5.0 sec. It comes with battery output of 58kW and charging time of 200V for under 3 hours and 100V for under 6 hours. The vehicle comes with maximum speed of 160 km/h and maximum range of approximately 160 km. The new EV-STER is equipped with 10k Wh lithium-ion battery.

Cars / Most Expensive Cars In The World: Top 10 List 2011-2012
« on: December 12, 2011, 11:42:39 AM »
What is the most expensive car in the world? The 1931 Bugatti Royale Kellner Coupe was sold for $8,700,000 in 1987. However, that car and many alike will not be included in this list because it is not available on the market today. It is hard to imagine someone would actually spend 8 million dollars on a car instead of using it for something more productive. However, if you had the money and opportunity, you would probably spend a small fraction of it on a collection of supercars for your private garage.

Here are the 10 most expensive production cars on the market; we will not include concept cars.

World's Most Expensive Cars:
1. Bugatti Veyron Super Sports - $2,400,000. This is by far the most expensive street legal car available on the market today (the base Veyron costs $1,700,000). It is the fastest accelerating car reaching 0-60 in 2.5 seconds. It is also the fastest street legal car when tested again on July 10, 2010 with the 2010 Super Sport Version reaching a top speed of 267 mph. When competing against the Bugatti Veyron, you better be prepared!

2. Pagani Zonda Clinque Roadster - $1,850,000. One of the most exotic cars out there is one of the most expensive. It can go from 0-60 in 3.4 seconds with a top speed of 217 mph.

We have a tie for 3rd place:

3. Lamborghini Reventon - $1,600,000. The most powerful and the most expensive Lamborghini ever built is the third on the list. It takes 3.3 seconds to reach 60 mph and it has a top speed of 211 mph. Its rarity (limited to 20) and slick design are the reasons why it is so expensive and costly to own.

3. Koenigsegg Agera R - $1,600,000. The Agera R can burn 0-60 in 2.8 seconds, reaching a maximum speed of 260 mph. It has the parts to reach 270 mph, but the supercar is electronically capped at 235 mph. With the completion of certain paperwork, the company will unlock the speed limit for one occasion.

4. McLaren F1 - $970,000. In 1994, the McLaren F1 was the fastest and most expensive car. Even though it was built 15 years ago, it has an unbelievable  top speed of 240 mph and reaching 60 mph in 3.2 seconds. Even today, the McLaren F1 is still top on the list and outperforms many other supercars.

5. Ferrari Enzo - $670,000. The most popular supercar ever built. The Enzo has a top speed of 217 mph and reaching 60 mph in 3.4 seconds. Only 400 units were produced and it is currently being sold for over $1,000,000 at auctions.

6. Pagani Zonda - C12 F $667,321. Produced by a small independent company in Italy, the Pagani Zonda C12 F is the 6th most expensive car in the world. It promises to delivery a top speed of 215 mph+ and it can reach 0-60 in 3.5 seconds.

7. SSC Ultimate Aero - $654,400. Don't let the price tag fool you, the 7th most expensive car is actually the 3rd fastest street legal car in the world with a top speed of 257 mph+ and reaching 0-60 in 2.7 seconds. This baby cost less than half as much as the Bugatti Veyron, yet has enough power to compete against the most expensive car. It is estimated that only 25 of this exact model will ever be produced.

8. Ascari A10 - $650,000. This badboy can reach a tested top speed of 215 mph, zooming 0-60 in 2.8 seconds. The British car company plans to assemple 50 of these supercars in their factory in Banbury, England.

9. Saleen S7 Twin Turbo - $555,000. The first true American production certified supercar, this cowboy is also rank 4th for the fastest car in the world. It has a top speed of 248 mph+ and it can reach 0-60 in 3.2 seconds. If you are a true American patriot, you can be proud to show off this car.

10. Koenigsegg CCX - $545,568. Swedish made, the Koenigsegg is fighting hard to become the fastest car in the world. Currently, it is the 5th fastest car in the world with a top speed of 245 mph+, the car manufacture Koenigsegg has just released the Koenigsegg Agera R to compete against the Bugatti Veyron. The company is a tough contender and will continue to try and produce the fastest car in the world. Good luck with that!

Tech Lounge / The World’s Smallest V-12 Engine
« on: December 12, 2011, 11:14:32 AM »
Have you ever wonder how a V-12 engine works or even how it was built? The video after the cut will show you how it works and how it was built, in a very “small” prototype yet very detailed construction. Be warned, that you may remain hypnotized for a span of less than 10 minutes for the superb craftsmanship and engineering prowess demonstrated on the visuals. Don’t stay too much here, hit the read more link right away.
El motor V-12 más pequeño del mundo.

The tiny polished V-12 engine features 12 cm3 of displacement (12mL engine if we are correct) with 11.3 mm cylinders and the stroke of the pistons 10mm. It runs on compressed air though it could be possibly running on gas but the machinist didn’t want to contaminate the air with combustion gasses.

The Spanish machinist render 1,220 hours to complete the mini-V12 engine that includes tedious machining of 261 parts and 222 screws all in all.

It’s one of the most delicate and detail-oriented creation of an engine we’ve seen so far, it is not for sale, –it’s  the machinist way to instruct viewers on the inner workings of such an engine.

The last time we saw a life-size engineering of an engine was when a documentary of how to build a custom-made Lamborghini.

Tech Lounge / Multitouch Tempered Glass Keyboard And Mouse
« on: December 12, 2011, 11:03:31 AM »

Most of the time we end up wanting gadgets just because they’re designed really sleek and cool. Don’t look too far, as what you’ve seen above could be literally one of them with Jason Giddings’ concept of a multitouch keyboard and mouse.

The sleek looking concept of the mouse and keyboard is made from a special curved piece of tempered glass that works along with couple of cameras in the base and IR module. Here’s a brief explanation on how this futuristic keyboard and mouse works:

The design is based on a touch screen technology known as FTIR or Frustrated Total Internal Reflection. There are basically infrared LEDs placed at the edge of the glass. In this case, they are hidden inside holes where the glass is mounted to the metal base. Because of the low angle at which the light impacts the internal glass surface, it is bounced around inside the glass, much like looking through a tube to see the reflections on the inside walls. When the glass is touched it frustrates the reflection and the IR light is diffused downward, out of the glass, allowing the camera to see it. Software then determines the location and sends the appropriate information to your computer.

Tech Lounge / PlayStation 4 vs Xbox 720
« on: December 12, 2011, 10:41:06 AM »
Recently,  reports surfaced suggesting Sony would be launching the PlayStation 4 next year that production should start later this year. You can take this with a grain of salt immediately, as the PlayStation 3 wasn’t matured enough to take its next successor. But we like the idea that PS4 will hit early next year. If the production will go on course like the Xbox 720, maybe it’s a good thing to think what will be the next design for both console. Looking at Tai Chiem concept, we think you’ll love what you’ll see after the break.

Gup Shup / what is this?
« on: March 16, 2011, 11:11:54 AM »

When he spotted a mark on his apartment window, this chap

just had to pop out to give the glass a quick wipe with a squeegee.
Nothing odd about that  except that he lives 400 ft up on the
34th floor of a tower block in Jumeirah Beach, Dubai.

He stepped out on to the narrow ledge and, holding the frame,
stretched across to wipe away the annoying smudge.

Hell for leather: A window cleaner, circled, takes his life
into his own hands on the 34th floor of a Jumeirah Beach
apartment block

As he takes his life into his hands, at least he has the sense to
hold on to the window frame, even if it is by his fingertips,
as he goes about his task.

He was snapped making sure the windows were sparkling by
a resident in a  neighboring apartment block.

A resident of a  neighboring block who took these pictures said:
The professional cleaners have safety harnesses and cradles
and helmets. He had nothing but stupid guts.

Slide the second picture up and down and feel your way.

Gup Shup / WHO IS RICH & WHO IS POOR?
« on: March 15, 2011, 03:29:34 PM »

Hi guys i hope you may like this...........

One day, the father of a very wealthy family took his son on a trip to the country with the
express purpose of showing him how poor people live.
They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm of what would be considered a very poor family.
On their return from their trip, the father asked his son, "How was the trip?"
"It was great, Dad."
"Did you see how poor people live?" the father asked.
"Oh yeah," said the son.
"So, tell me, what did you learn from the trip?" asked the father.
The son answered:
"I saw that we have one dog and they had four.
We have a pool that reaches to the middle of our garden and they have a creek that has no end.
We have imported lanterns in our garden and they have the stars at night.
Our patio reaches to the front yard and they have the whole horizon.
We have a small piece of land to live on and they have fields that go beyond our sight.
We have servants who serve us, but they serve others.
We buy our food, but they grow theirs.
We have walls around our property to protect us, they have friends to protect them."
The boy's father was speechless.
Then his son added,  "Thanks Dad for showing me how poor we are."
Isn't perspective a wonderful thing? Makes you wonder what would happen if we all gave thanks for everything we have, instead of worrying about what we don't have.
Appreciate every single thing you have!
Pass this on to friends and acquaintances and help them refresh their perspective and appreciation.
