Gursewak Dhillon pleads guilty over Indian boy Gurshan Singh Channa's death
A MAN has pleaded guilty in a Melbourne court over the death of Indian boy Gurshan Singh Channa whose body was found in grass by the side of a road in March.
Gursewak Dhillon, 23, pleaded guilty in the Melbourne Magistrates' Court to one count of manslaughter by criminal negligence over the three-year-old's death.
Gurshan's body was found by a council worker in grass by the side of a road in March, some 20km from his family's home in Lalor.
Police allege Dhillon, who shared the home with Gurshan's parents, placed the boy unconscious but alive in the boot of his car, drove him in the boot for at least three hours and dumped him at Oaklands Junction without checking to see if he was alive or dead.
Standing before magistrate Peter Reardon, Dhillon said "I'm guilty, your honour", in response to a charge of manslaughter.
The boy's parents are now living in their home town of Kotkapura, India.
Dhillon, an Indian national and part-time taxi driver, was charged and remanded into custody over the boy's death.
He will face the Victorian Supreme Court for a directions hearing on September 21.
