Gup Shup / HALF GREEN, HALF RED, ALL DELICIOUS!
« on: January 22, 2010, 09:38:51 PM »
Ken Morrish of Colaton Raleigh, Devon was astounded when he grew an apple that was half-red and half-green. This genetic mutation is called an "extreme mutation" because the odds of it occurring are literally a million to one. The resulting fruit is known as a chimera in which two different kinds of cells turn into one organism.

It is unlikely that this will be a recurring mutation, but Ken Morrish is going to be on the lookout for another one next year.

Pics / PICTURES OF THE LIVING DEAD
« on: January 22, 2010, 09:19:51 PM »
During Victorian times, when the camera was still seen as a novel oddity, the practice of taking pictures of the recently deceased as a memorial became commonplace.  As time progressed and more people wanted to remember family members who had prematurely departed, it became commonplace to position dead bodies in life-like poses to simulate how these individuals were before they shuffled off their mortal coils.

Pay close attention to these photos.  The bodies are positioned with heavy wire and stands and, in some cases, pupils have been painted on closed eyelids.

The girl in the middle is not alive.  Look at the position of her hands.
