Pics / Shadow pictures
« on: February 03, 2010, 08:16:54 PM »
Kumy Yamashita is a talented artist. She can place wood or metal objects in just the right light to make mysterious shadow people. The genius of it all lies in the fact that without the lighting and shadows the objects would never give away her secret. These surprising silhouettes only come out when beckoned to do so.

The numbers scattered on the wall, lit from the right, cast a silhouette of a woman.

The thin metal object on the wall casts the silhouette of a girl when lit from above.

Created by light, wood and shadow, the wooden object on the wall, lit from below, casts a silhouette of a figure.

The number and the alphabet blocks, lit from the left, cast a silhouette of a man's profile.

The thin metal object on the wall, lit from above, casts the silhouette of a couple.

Shayari / Tonight
« on: February 03, 2010, 06:01:10 PM »
I want to spend tonight alone with you
Just looking at stars
And Reading our fates etched there in the sky
Comets shoot by like old famed glories
Dead but never gone
Not form out hearts
So I’ll say it again
I want to spend tonight alone with you
Just looking at the stars.

News Khabran / Farmer ordered to demolish castle
« on: February 03, 2010, 05:37:16 PM »
REIGATE, England, Feb. 3 -- A British appeals court rejected a farmer's request to stop the demolition of a castle he secretly built on his property and concealed for four years.

Robert Fidler of Salfords, Surrey, said the castle, which includes a cannon and ramparts made from discarded grain silos, was completed in 2002. He said he hid it behind bales of straw for four years while he was living inside with his wife and son, Sky News reported Wednesday.

Fidler said he took away the castle's disguise in 2006 due to a planning law loophole granting enforcement immunity to buildings that have been complete for more than four years. However, the Reigate and Banstead Borough Council said removing the camouflage from the castle was a part of its construction and ordered it demolished.

The farmer took the case to the High Court, but the appeals judge agreed with the council. Fidler's lawyer, Pritpal Singh Swarn, said further appeals are possible.

News Khabran / Washington man wants tapeworm on state seal
« on: February 03, 2010, 05:33:45 PM »
ORTING, Wash., Feb. 3 (UPI) -- A Washington state man has filed an initiative to change the Seal of State to a well-dressed tapeworm "attached to the taxpayer's rectum."

James Vaughn of Orting filed an initiative this week with the office of Secretary of State Sam Reed to replace the current seal, an image of George Washington, to a picture of "a tapeworm dressed in a three-pieced suit attached to the taxpayer's rectum," The Seattle Times reported Wednesday.

The papers filed by Vaughn, which include a few pages complaining about the taxes paid by residents and business in the state, said the tapeworm image would be surrounded by the grammatically awkward phrase: "Committee to sucking the life out of each and every tax payer."

Reed spokesman David Ammons wrote in the office's blog that such initiatives are not uncommon.

"For five bucks and an idea, anyone can file an Initiative to the People -- and they do. Most are very serious, while others can be kooky or simply send a message," he said.

Gup Shup / Attitude is Everything
« on: February 03, 2010, 05:01:59 PM »
There once was a woman who woke up one morning,
Looked in the mirror and noticed she had only three hairs on her head.

Well,” she said, “I think I’ll braid my hair today?”
So she did and she had a wonderful day.

The next day she woke up,
Looked in the mirror and saw that she had only two hairs on her head.

“H-M-M,” she said, “I think I’ll part my hair down the middle today?”
So she did and she had a grand day.

The next day she woke up,
Looked in the mirror and noticed that she had only one hair on her head.

“Well,” she said, “today I’m going to wear my hair in a pony tail.”
So she did and she had a fun, fun day.

The next day she woke up,
Looked in the mirror and noticed that there wasn’t a single hair on her head.

“YEA!” she exclaimed, “I don’t have to fix my hair today!”

Attitude is everything.
    * Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet.
    * Live simply,
    * Love generously,
    * Care deeply,
    * Speak kindly…….

Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass. It’s about learning to dance in the rain.

News Khabran / Many Dutch prepare for 2012 apocalypse
« on: February 02, 2010, 04:59:18 PM »
AMSTERDAM, Netherlands,(UPI) -- Thousands of people in the Netherlands say they expect the world to end in 2012, and many say they are taking precautions to prepare for the apocalypse.

The Dutch-language de Volkskrant newspaper said it spoke to thousands of believers in the impending end of civilization, and while theories on the supposed catastrophe varied, most tied the 2012 date to the end of the Mayan calendar, Radio Netherlands reported Monday.

De Volkskrant said many of those interviewed are stocking up on emergency supplies, including life rafts and other equipment.

Some who spoke to the newspaper were optimistic about the end of civilization.

"You know, maybe it's really not that bad that the Netherlands will be destroyed," Petra Faile said. "I don't like it here anymore. Take immigration, for example. They keep letting people in. And then we have to build more houses, which makes the Netherlands even heavier. The country will sink even lower, which will make the flooding worse."

Knowledge / CRAZY FACTS
« on: February 02, 2010, 03:42:48 PM »
I n the 1400's a law was set forth that a man was not allowed to beat his wife with a stick no thicker than his thumb. Hence we have "the rule of thumb".

Many years ago in Scotland, a new game was invented. It was ruled "Gentlemen Only...Ladies Forbidden"...and thus the word Golf entered into the English language.

Coca-Cola was originally green.

Every day more money is printed for Monopoly than the US Treasury.

Men can read smaller print than women can; women can hear better.

Intelligent people have more zinc and copper in their hair.

Clubs -Alexander, the Great
Diamonds - Julius Caesar

If a statue in the park of a person on a horse has both front legs in the air, the person died in battle. If the horse has one front leg in the air the person died as a result of wounds received in battle. If the horse has all four legs on the ground, the person died of natural causes.

Q. If you were to spell out numbers, how far would you have to go until you would find the letter "A"?

A. One thousand

Q. What do bullet-proof vests, fire escapes, windshield wipers, and laser printers all have in common?

A. All invented by women.

Q. What is the only food that doesn't spoil?

A. Honey

In Shakespeare's time, mattresses were secured on bed frames by ropes. When you pulled on the ropes the mattress tightened, making the bed firmer to sleep on. Hence the phrase "goodnight, sleep tight."

It was the accepted practice in Babylon 4,000 years ago that for a month after the wedding, the bride's father would supply his son-in-law with all the mead he could drink. Mead is a honey beer and because their calendar was lunar based, this period was called the honey month, which we know today as the honeymoon

In English pubs, ale is ordered by pints and quarts... So in old England, when customers got unruly, the bartender would yell at them "Mind your pints and quarts, and settle down." It's where we get the phrase "mind your P's and Q's"

Many years ago in England, pub frequenters had a whistle baked into the rim, or handle, of their ceramic cups. When they needed a refill, they used the whistle to get some service. "Wet your whistle" is the phrase inspired by this practice.

Why can’t I
Enjoy myself
With time for leisure
Why can’t I
Be bothered
With those mundane tasks
Why can’t I
Be satisfied
Surrounded by material things
Why can’t I
Return love
To One so precious
Why can’t I
Be sure
Of finding the missing piece
Why can’t I ?

First, she wanted to be cremated, and second, she wanted her ashes scattered over Wal-Mart.
‘Wal-Mart?’ the preacher exclaimed.
‘Why Wal-Mart?’ ‘Then I’ll be sure my daughters visit me twice a week’

Gup Shup / The World's Luckiest Man
« on: February 02, 2010, 09:17:42 AM »

Frane Selak (born 1929) is a Croatian music teacher famous for his supposed numerous escapes from fatal accidents. In January, 1962, for example, Selak was traveling via train from Sarajevo to Dubrovnik. However, the train had suddenly derailed and plunged into an icy river, killing 17 passengers. Selak managed to escape, and only suffered a broken arm and minor scrapes and bruises.

The following year, while flying from Zagreb to Rijeka when the door blew away from the cockpit, forcing him out of the plane. Although 19 others were killed, he suffered only minor injuries and had miraculously landed in a haystack.

In 1966, he was riding on a bus that crashed and plunged into a river. Four others were killed, but Selak managed to escape unharmed.

In 1970, he managed to escape before a faulty fuel pump engulfed his car into flames.

In 1973, another of Selak's cars caught fire, forcing fire through the air vents. He suffered no injuries save the loss of most of his hair.

In 1995, he was hit by a city bus, but once again suffered minor injuries.

In 1996 he escaped when he drove off a cliff to escape an oncoming United Nations truck. He managed to land in a tree, and watched as his car exploded 300 feet below him.

In 2003 he won in the Croatian lottery, and had stated that "I know God was watching me over all these years." He has reputedly refused to fly to Australia to air on a Doritos commercial, saying he "didn't want to test his luck."

He has said that he can either be looked as "the world's unluckiest man, or the world's luckiest man," and prefers the latter.
How does the story of Frane Selak end? Luckily, of course. In June 2003, at the age of 74, Selak bought his first lottery ticket in 40 years … and won more than $1 million. "I am going to enjoy my life now," he said. "I feel like I have been reborn. I know God was watching over me all these years." He told reporters that he planned to buy a house, a car, and a speedboat, and to marry his girlfriend. (He’d been married four times before and reflected, "My marriages were disasters, too.")

In 2004 Selak was hired to star in an Australian TV commercial for Doritos. At first he accepted the job, but then changed his mind and refused to fly to Sydney for the filming. Reason: He said he didn’t want to test his luck.

News Khabran / Man finds counterfeit $200,000 in used car
« on: February 01, 2010, 06:53:54 PM »
-- Authorities in Georgia said a man discovered $200,000 in counterfeit bills hidden in a compartment behind the back seat of a used car he recently purchased.

Cherokee County sheriff's deputies said Tye Kuykendall of Ball Ground was repairing a gas leak in the car he purchased for $400 from a towing company last year, after it has been sitting in an impound lot since a 2006 drug bust, when he found a hidden compartment behind the back seat, WSB-TV, Atlanta, reported Monday.

Kuykendall said the compartment contained a white sack filled with thousands of $100 bills.

He said he called the Cherokee County Sheriff, which contacted U.S. Treasury officials, and the cash was found to be counterfeit.

Investigators said they are working with the U.S. Secret Service to determine where the bills may have originated from prior to the car's impounding.
