Shayari / I am your everything.
« on: May 23, 2010, 08:54:25 PM »
I am your everything
   You are my nothing.

I am your voice,
        your song,
        your breath.

I am your movement,
        your dance,
        your step.

I am your mind,
        your thoughts,
        your flurry.

I am your conscience,
        your doubts,
        your worry.

I am your sight,
        your glance,
        your treason.

I am your hearing,
        your balance,
        your reason.

I am your everything
  You are my nothing.

To be everything to you,
gains me one thing.
To be everything to you,
gains me nothing.

PENSACOLA, Fla., May 23  -- A Florida woman suffered minor injuries Thursday when a fish she was trying to net for her husband pulled her off a pier into the ocean, observers say.

"The fish was in the net, almost to the pier, and it had a burst of energy," Tenuto said. "And it pulled me in with it. I was just hoping a boat wasn't coming."

As she held onto a piling under the pier, her husband called 911.

"Falling off (the pier) is always in the back of your mind, but it ... happened this time," Paul Tenuto said. "I didn't know what to do."

Lifeguards used a personal watercraft to bring her to shore where paramedics treated her, the News Journal reported.

And the fish? It got away, the Tenutos said.

"It was a good size one," Paul Tenuto said. "We'll be back for it."

News Khabran / Thieves put sleeping gas in AC units
« on: May 21, 2010, 09:00:04 PM »
NEW DELHI, May 21  -- New Delhi police said thieves are pouring sleep-inducing gas into air conditioning units to knock out homeowners during burglaries.

Investigators said the thieves pour the gas into the window-mounted units, which fan air through wet grass, and wait for homeowners to fall asleep before relieving them of their valuables, Sky News reported Friday.

The gang took about $11,500 worth of cash and jewelry from a home this week and made off with $20,000 in of cash and goods earlier in the month.

Police said one of the victims reported a "revolting odor" coming from the air conditioning unit.

"The investigations are on and we have sent the water sample for testing and efforts are on to nab the people behind the crime," a police spokesman said.

News Khabran / Protein spurs prostate cancer spread
« on: May 21, 2010, 08:52:45 PM »
PHILADELPHIA, May 21 -- A prostate cancer cell protein -- Stat5 -- might be key to the cancer's spread, U.S. researchers said.

Researchers from the Kimmel Cancer Center at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia found Stat5 -- a protein already found to play a role in prostate cancer survival -- also helped spread the disease to other parts of the body by rearranging prostate cancer cell structure and suppressing proteins binding cells to one another.

The study, published in Endocrine-Related Cancer, not only found nuclear Stat5 led to prostate cancer spread in the laboratory and but also in an animal model. They found human prostate cancer cells that over-expressed Stat5 readily spread to the lungs when injected into mice.

"Until now, we thought that Stat5 was involved in primarily promoting tumor growth, but this study indicates it could be one of the key players in pushing prostate cancer to spread," study researcher Dr. Marja Nevalainen said in a statement.

Shayari / Dare
« on: May 21, 2010, 08:31:28 PM »
Dare to dream your own dreams.
Dare to live your own life.
No matter how often it seems,
the world’s sending you strife.

Be who you really are.
Don’t follow the crowd.
And even when this seems bizarre,
In the end you’ll be proud.

Follow your own way.
And never back down.
Don’t let your beliefs sway.
Even when they make others frown.

Study hard now and work hard later.
It may not now seem that essential,
but it’ll make you that much greater
and be an added credential.

So dare to dream your own dreams.
Dare to live your own life.
No matter how often it seems,
the world’s sending you strife.

Gup Shup / Life is Too Short To Be Anything But Happy
« on: May 21, 2010, 05:10:04 AM »
There comes a time in life when you have to let go of all the pointless drama and the people who create it and surround yourself with people who make you laugh so hard that you forget the bad and focus solely on the good. After all life is too short to be anything but happy.

Are you mindful of the nature of your friends, family, clients and associates?

Do you often engage with people who take pleasure in espousing crazy talk, negativity or languishing in the past? Or do you share your time with people who are mostly positive, supportive and creative? If you are surrounded by the former, I recommend weeding your personal garden of buzz kills, complainers, controllers and drama queens.

Check it.

If today is the last day of your life who do you want to spend it with?

What do you really gain by allowing people to hang around who are toxic, living in the past, disinterested in self growth … OR … whom have little interest in supporting you as you improve, grow and change?

A golden nugget of wisdom shared by mindful parents, teachers and sages directs us to surround ourselves with a “healthy and positive ” peer group.

Why?

Because you are most like the people you spend your time with PERIOD.

It’s not surprising that on your journey of personal growth your inner light will illuminate personalities that no longer suit your way of living.

This is a natural process.

Your development doesn’t mean that you write somebody off and become an arrogant jerk.

If you are serious about positive change, you will naturally stop engaging  people who have zero interest in changing their stagnant or negative patterns.

You will begin attracting more like minded happy people  - naturally.

You have the choice to Surround yourself with  …

    * People who love you

    * People who make you laugh

    * People who are kind

    * People who can laugh at themselves

    * People who are open minded

    * People who are comfortable in their own skin

    * People who are mostly happy

    * People who are quirky

    * People who are interested in improving themselves

    * People who are edgy

    * People who are curious

    * People who are in love with life

    * People who marvel at the beauty of nature

    * People who aren’t afraid of being loved

    * People who are learning to love themselves

After all, life is too short to let the bastards (sorry for being rude) drag you down.

Get happy!

News Khabran / Aubrey de Grey declares an end to generations.
« on: May 21, 2010, 04:52:25 AM »
De Grey is a biomedical gerontologist who is the chief science officer for the Sens Foundation in Cambridge, England. The foundation is a non-profit charity that focuses on combating diseases of old age.

“There won’t be generations anymore,” says Aubrey de Grey of tomorrow’s world where anti-aging treatments will give us at least 30 extra years of life. You’ll be able to keep up with your granddaughter on the ski slopes, he told his host at the Lift 2010 conference in Geneva Thursday 6 May. And for de Grey, the future is close: we can expect to see such treatments within our lifetimes, he believes.

The questions people invariably ask de Gray focus on such mundane matters as where all these extra people will live, how pension plans will pay for them and what they’ll do with their time, but he says the questions are not the right ones. We should balance out these against the problems caused right now by “100,000 people a day getting very sick and staying that way a long time and then dying.”

De Gray says he does not work on longevity, but rather on combating aging, “specifically in combating aging using regenerative medicine.” Old age is something most of us have wrong. “People will say, that is what we want to die of. And they think, if you die of aging, that’s dying of natural causes, a biological process.

“But that makes no sense at all! Aging is a process that goes on throughout life,” says de Grey. “When we talk about combating aging we’re talking about defeating the diseases of old age.”

Old age kills about two-thirds of the people who die every day in the world, he notes, and in the developed world, that rises to about 90 percent.

The figures need to be improved, not just for reasons of health and happiness, but “there is a financial incentive, $200 billion a year to provide care for people, and that’s just in the US.

The solution is to develop treatments that address cell maintenance, and not just prevention and repair of damage to bodies. “Damage that doesn’t repair itself accumulates” and eventually causes the diseases of old age,” de Grey says.

Gup Shup / Free Burger King whoppers for Life
« on: May 21, 2010, 04:27:15 AM »
My friend Henry Hakaneimmi sent this mail to me.

On my recent trip to Burger King I made a little departure from my main stay and decided to do a little covert ops.I found the coupon code book for free whoppers and chicken sandwiches.

All you have to do is get a reciept from a burger king that has a survey box on the back. Instead of calling the number and wasting your time just follow these instructions for free no hassle food.

Here are the instructions:

    * Find a reciept with the telephone survey on the back.
    * Where it says to write the code and place the two letter code followed by 5 numbers (hint: Numbers do not have to be in any order or value except that there has to be five of them) for which month you are currently in.
    * Example: WH 12345 the only thing they will check are the two letters.
    * You still have to buy any size fry or drink but you will always get a free sandwich of your choosing.

Month Codes:

Based on which month your are in choose the two letters that coincide with that month.

   1. Jan = BB
   2. Feb = LS
   3. Mar = JH
   4. April = PL
   5. May = BK
   6. June = WH
   7. July = FF
   8. Aug = BF
   9. Sept = CF
  10. Oct = CK
  11. Nov = CB
  12. Dec = VM

Hope this helps when the craving hits.

Shayari / You and Me
« on: May 20, 2010, 07:57:30 PM »
You send shivers down my spine when you walk in,
Cause the butterflies to flutter like mad.
When you look in my eyes,
You burn right through me.
You are the sunshine when my skies are clouded,
The light when I can't find the good in the world.
I could be all that you need,
You are all that I want.
My stomach knots when you are next to me,
You make me nervous and giddy.
I smile at the thought of you,
Quake in your presence.
You have all control over me,
And you don't even know it.

News Khabran / Deceased candidate qualifies in primary
« on: May 20, 2010, 07:40:43 PM »
GEORGETOWN, Ky., May 20 -- Officials in Georgetown, Ky., said a deceased city council candidate received 1,002 votes in the primary election, despite signs explaining her recent death.

Georgetown officials said Vickie Moore, who died of a heart attack April 4 at the age of 54, received enough votes Tuesday to move on to November's general election for the council despite signs at polling places telling voters that the candidate had passed away and her votes would not be officially counted, the Lexington (Ky.) Herald-Leader reported Thursday.

Election officials said Moore's name is being dropped and will be replaced in the general election by Antonio Barber Sr.

Moore placed 13th out of 29 candidates in the primary.

Locals theorized people may have voted for Moore as a tribute to her memory, to show dissatisfaction with the other candidates or because they did not notice the signs.

"I think people voted to make a statement, or people were doing it in honor of her, to say 'she would have had my vote had she lived,'" said Scott Turner, president of the Georgetown Scott County Community Connections.

News Khabran / City plans saggy pants ban ordinance
« on: May 20, 2010, 07:37:30 PM »
HORN LAKE, Tenn., May 20 (UPI) -- Officials in a Tennessee town said they are working on a new ordinance to ban locals from wearing their pants low enough to reveal underwear or bare backsides.

Horn Lake Mayor Nat Baker and members of the board of aldermen said they have seen recent increases in men wearing their pants in the saggy fashion, leading them to seek a ban in the form of an ordinance, The (Memphis) Commercial Appeal reported Thursday.

"There have been ordinances like this upheld across the country, and in talking with the city attorney, I think we can draw up something that can be upheld in court," Baker said.

"They need to pull their pants back up to where they should be," Baker said. "It's getting out of hand."

Officials did not reveal possible penalties for violations of the ban.

Jokes Majaak / 0 to 200 in 6 seconds
« on: May 20, 2010, 07:18:31 PM »
Bob was in trouble. He forgot his wedding anniversary. His wife was
really pissed.

She told him “Tomorrow morning, I expect to find a gift in the
driveway that goes from 0 to 200 in 6 seconds AND IT BETTER BE THERE !!”

The next morning he got up early and left for work. When his wife woke
up, she looked out the window and sure enough there was a box
gift-wrapped in the middle of the driveway.

Confused, the wife put on her robe and ran out to the driveway, brought
the box back in the house.

She opened it and found a brand new bathroom scale.

Bob has been missing since Friday.

News Khabran / Clue to matter/antimatter puzzle found
« on: May 19, 2010, 08:54:01 PM »
BATAVIA, Ill., May 17 -- U.S. and British physicists say they have come across a clue that could help explain why the universe is comprised of matter and not antimatter.

Arriving at that answer could reveal why we even exist, scientists say.

The Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory researchers say collisions of protons and anti-protons produce pairs of particles called muons more frequently than they produce anti-muons, The New York Times reported.

"This result may provide an important input for explaining the matter dominance in our universe," Guennadi Borissov, a co-leader of the study from England's Lancaster University, said Friday at the Fermi lab in Batavia, Ill.

Gustaaf Brooijmans of Columbia University, who is a member of the research team, says the world's largest and highest-energy particle accelerator near Geneva, Switzerland, will help move the research forward.

"This is something we should be able to poke at with the Large Hadron Collider," Brooijmans said.

Joe Lykken, a theorist at Fermilab, agrees the potential for a significant breakthrough in answering why we exist is great.

"So I would not say that this announcement is the equivalent of seeing the face of God, but it might turn out to be the toe of God," Lykken told the Times.

News Khabran / Hearing loss may be linked to Viagra
« on: May 19, 2010, 08:50:00 PM »
BIRMINGHAM, Ala., May 19 (UPI) -- U.S. researchers found an association between hearing loss and use of Viagra, the erectile dysfunction medication.

The study, published in the Archives of Otolaryngology -- Head and Neck Surgery, found a potential for long-term hearing loss following use of Viagra, and possibly other phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors drugs such as Cialis and Levitra, although results on those drugs were inconclusive.

Study author Gerald McGwin of the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Public Health said in the Food and Drug Administration in 2007 required PDE-5i medications to display more prominently the risk of hearing problems.

McGwin examined data on 11,525 men age 40 and older, gathered by the federal Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality from 2003 to 2006. Men who reported use of PDE-5i medications were twice as likely as men who had not used the drugs to also report hearing loss.

The relationship was strongest for men reporting use of Viagra, or sildenafil. McGwin said the association was less in Cialis, or tadalafil, and Levitra, or vardenafil -- in part to a small sample size for both of those drugs.
