We do have sum customs....in India..but they dont seem weird to us ...coz with time we have accepted them...but they may appear weird to people who are from other countries examples are It is considered bad luck for the bride and groom to see each other for several days before the wedding. Pinching nose of the groom by his mother-in-law..to signify that the groom has come to ask for their daughter's hand rubbing nose at their doorstep. Stealing and hiding shoes of a groom on day of wedding by bride's sisters and cousins The bride will throw away some food on the door of her house There is a gate money that needs to be paid by the groom to gain access to the bride. Applying 'Surma' or kohl in eyes of groom by his'bhabhi' (sis-in law) before leaving for girls house to ward off the evil eye but definitely we dont have any custom such as 'Bathroom ban' :pagel: seriously no comparison!!! 188

Knowledge / weird wedding customs« on: February 14, 2011, 01:10:37 AM »
Over the world, people practice numerous wedding customs that have been passed on through many generations. Although each has a long history of meaning and significance, many just seem strange and out of place in today’s culture.
Check out some of the historical wedding customs that are still practiced today, much to the intrigue and wonderment of its audience. Blackening the Bride To prepare for their marriage, Scottish brides-to-be must go through a very foul pre-wedding ritual. Friends of the bride take her by surprise and cover her with eggs, spoiled milk, feathers, pretty much anything disgusting. The blackened bride is then paraded around town. The purpose of this custom is to prepare the bride for marriage because after going through that, any marital problems will seem like nothing. Polterabend Polterabend is a German pre-wedding tradition where friends and family come together for an informal party. While that may not seem odd, what they do at these parties certainly is. They break dishes, flowerpots, tiles, toilets, pretty much anything except glasses or mirrors. To symbolize working together through future difficulties, the bride and groom must clean everything up. Due to the need to replace all the broken goods, I suspect that German sellers of housewares are quite fond of this custom. Jumping The Broom The “Jumping the Broom” is a ceremony practiced by African Americans, in which the bride and groom, either at the ceremony or at the reception, signify their entrance into a new life and their creation of a new family by symbolically “sweeping away” their former single lives, former problems and concerns, and jumping over the broom to enter upon a new adventure as wife and husband. This “leap” into a new life (marriage as wife and husband is performed in the presence of families and friends. You can be as creative as you want when planning for this special ceremony. Throwing nuts and Plums Koreans believe that if the groom is smiling a lot at the wedding his first child is going to be a daughter. After the wedding groom's parents throw some nuts and plums to the bride. If the bride takes some nuts she'll get many sons. Bathroom Ban The Tidong are a group of people from northern Borneo with a particularly uncomfortable wedding custom. For the 3 days and 3 nights following the wedding, both the bride and groom are prohibited from using the bathroom. That means no urinating, no defecating, and no bathing. They believe that custom will lead to a long, happy, and fertile marriage. In order to achieve this, the newlyweds are allowed to eat and drink only very small amounts and are watched very closely by family members. (Damn...This is seriously weird ) 191

Love Pyar / Re: Love brings negative emotions!« on: February 13, 2011, 11:35:12 PM »
Sweetie... its not love that brings negative emotions... rather..these are our expectations...
Because whom we love..we expect a lot from them... falling in love can bring negative emotions such as jealousy, anger, heartache, fear of loss. So the things which u have mentioned here are becoz of our expectations from our loved ones... When we will stop expecting ...love will bring only postive emotions 197
