Sports Khelan / Kirk Penney's NBA dream went up in flames
« on: October 13, 2010, 04:27:59 AM »
New Zealand shooting guard Kirk Penney's flirtation with the NBA in the United States has ended after he was released by the San Antonio Spurs.

Penney has been released from the Spurs' veterans camp, ending his dream to snare an NBA contract.

The 29-year-old had very brief stints in the NBA in 2003 and 2004 for Miami Heat and the Los Angeles Clippers respectively.

He was asked to trial with the Spurs on the back of top drawer performances for New Zealand at the world championships in Turkey last month.

Penney played one pre-season game for the Spurs, collecting nine points in 16 minutes of court time.

He attended the veterans' camp with the blessing of the New Zealander Breakers, his ANBL club, which has not put a timeline on his return, despite their opening match of the new season looming in Sydney on Saturday.

"Kirk is obviously feeling quite down at the moment, this is his dream and it is one the club has supported to give him a shot at the NBA so he is understandably disappointed," Breakers general manager Richard Clarke said today.

"He feels he has the game to compete at this level, his time at the Spurs has only confirmed that for him knowing he can score on guys in this league."

Clarke said the Breakers would allow Penney some time to check whether any NBA offers might emerge on the back of his time at the Spurs.

"We will know more in the next 48 hours or so but if nothing is on the table, Kirk will be returning to the Breakers, possibly in time for our first home game next Wednesday, but I doubt very much if he is any chance of playing in Sydney on Saturday."

Gup Shup / Punjabi people with drugs, smoking and alcohol
« on: October 08, 2010, 07:01:59 PM »
Like many others, i don't associate indian people with drugs and smoking. It's not a very indian-thing. Because i find indian people to be conservative with a few exceptions. Alcohol is 1 of the exceptions, my BF's brother and my mate who are both indians are drinkers.

My mate introduced me to 5 punjabi guys. And he told me that they drink, smoke and do drugs. Of course that was a surprised especially the "drug" bit. But he also said, it was because of the guys GFS are the reason they smoke marijuana. 3 of the guys have got kiwi GFS, 1's got indian and the other i'm not too sure of.  /:)

Do any of you guys smoke, drink or do drugs?  :loll:

Gup Shup / Do indian people hate us now after Paul Henry's comments?
« on: October 08, 2010, 01:21:35 AM »
He made a racist remark against the NZ governor general, anand satyanand who is indo-kiwi. And now he dissed an indian woman because of her last name "dikshit" not sure if that's the correct spelling. Some of you might've heard the news.

Paul Henry's well known for his sarcasm, humour and straight forward type of bloke, but this week, he's been all over the news because of his comments. Now some people are complaining that TVNZ should sack him.

Even my BF's outraged and we had a small argument about this lastnight.  :loll:
