Cars / $2.8m aston martin 1 of only 77
« on: May 28, 2011, 05:20:41 AM »
THE SPECS
Engine: 7.3 litre V12
Body: Two-door sports coupe with two seats.
Weight: About 1500kg.
Top speed: 354.86 km/h
Horsepower: 750

A New Zealand businessman has bought a $2.8 million Aston Martin supercar - thought to be the most expensive car ever ordered by a Kiwi buyer.
The sleek black machine, with a top speed of more than 350km/h, was shipped across Cook Strait last night on its way to its "chuffed" new Christchurch owner, Mainfreight co-founder Neil Graham.
The One-77 supercar, built in April and one of only 77 in the world, arrived in Auckland on board a Singapore Airlines 747 last week.
It will join Mr Graham's collection of luxury cars, which reportedly also includes a Mercedes SL 65 AMG valued at $950,000.
Auckland's Aston Martin dealership, Independent Prestige, showcased the One-77 to clients on Saturday at its Great North Rd showroom after Aston Martin New Zealand sent a technician to the UK with Mr Graham to inspect it.
Although he is not on the NBR Rich List, Mr Graham is worth at least $60 million. Last year's Mainfreight annual report lists him as holding 6.4 million shares in the company, worth $9.40 each yesterday.
Mr Graham, who finalised the purchase two years ago, was reluctant to discuss his prized vehicle until he had test-driven it, but told the Herald yesterday that he was "chuffed" it was nearly in his garage.
"I think it's fair to say that I'm looking forward to test-driving it."
The car was road-tested in Auckland - a technician was given the job of taking the One-77 "a mile up and down the motorway" to reset its computer, said Independent Prestige general manager Lee Small.
"We didn't want to tell the public about it as we would have been inundated. People were just blown away by it. Really, you're not likely to see anything like it in New Zealand," Mr Small said.
"It's pretty spectacular. It's the only one in Australasia, and we're quite proud we got one into New Zealand."
Mr Small described the One-77 as "an absolute work of art" and said he did not know of any cars that had been bought in New Zealand for a higher price.
The only other car to arrive in the country that Mr Small could compare with the One-77 was a McLaren F1, shipped to New Zealand in the mid-1990s.
"[The One-77] is extremely fast," he said. "It's a sculpture, really. I don't know how often I'd use it."
Aston Martin engineers have pushed the One-77 to a top speed of 354.86km/h, and it has an acceleration rate of zero to 100km/h in just over three seconds.
Aston Martin has described the supercar as "possibly the world's most desirable automotive art form".
The company's website trumpets: "Based on a sophisticated carbon-fibre chassis with a hand-crafted aluminium body, the 7.3 litre V12 supercar will deliver exhilarating performance for a strictly limited number of discerning customers."
The One-77 is custom-built - right down to the pressure of the gear shift selector - and Mr Graham has opted for a black exterior coat with red leather upholstery.

Gup Shup / It's weird how my bf brings up the "kids" subject
« on: May 27, 2011, 07:32:46 AM »

So awkward isn't it?  :D:   Like he brings up that subject on random times and has been bringining it up a lot just recently.  :waitin:  I'm 17, i hate kids. He knows that but he said we're going to have them anyways. I agreed "1 day". Just today, he said "i wonder how our baby will look like. Will he have white skin?" and i said yes. "English or punjabi name"and i said english. "Will he speak english or punjabi?" and obviously i said english. He gave this disagreement look.  :D:  And i was like "1st of all, when i was a baby, i was too white! so i wouldn't be surprise if he is as well but he'll look like a bit of you and me, 2ndly english-european names are easier to pronounce and i don't even know a lot of indian names and 3rdly, we live in an english speaking country, he's going to have speak english, he'll learn punjabi when he's old enough".

Was my argument a good 1? :loll: :pagel:

News Khabran / Baby was put in the microwave oven
« on: May 20, 2011, 07:06:10 AM »
Jurors in an American woman's third trial have found her guilty of burning her baby daughter to death in a microwave oven.
China Arnold, 31, was convicted of aggravated murder in the death of 28-day-old Paris Talley in August 2005. Arnold could receive the death penalty. The sentencing phase will begin on Monday next week.
Arnold's first trial ended in a mistrial.
She was found guilty in the second trial, but that conviction was reversed last year. An appeals court found there was misconduct by prosecutors and the trial court made an error by not allowing a material witness to testify in Arnold's defence.
Prosecutors have said Arnold intentionally put the baby in the microwave after a fight with her boyfriend. The defence had argued someone else was responsible.
Medical experts testified that the baby died after her temperature reached about 42 degrees Celsius and she probably was in the microwave for more than two minutes, dying quickly afterward.
"She died because she was overheated," said Dr Marcella Fierro, retired chief medical examiner for Virginia. "She was cooked."'
Messages seeking comment from the prosecutor and defence lawyer were left at their offices, but a gag order in the case prevents anyone connected to it from commenting outside court.
Assistant Prosecutor Dan Brandt told jurors in court Arnold's actions were "even more purposeful" than a slaying with a gun or knife, the Dayton Daily News reported.
"Baby Paris is without life, but she's not without a voice," Brandt told jurors in closing arguments. "Please listen to her."
Brandt said Arnold had to carry the baby over, place her in the microwave, shut the door and press buttons. Then she waited while her child cooked to death, Brandt said.
Defence lawyer Jon Paul Rion argued the evidence pointed as much to Terrell Talley, the baby's father, as it did Arnold.
"This doesn't make sense to you," Rion told jurors. "It doesn't. I've been watching your faces."
The prosecutor cut and fit evidence to show "this loving mother somehow was so evil that she killed her baby in this way", he said.

Paul Carran is credited with inventing planking -

That aussie dude below died recently because of planking and now those aussies are blaming paul(that ginger who invented the sport originally from NZ) for the guy's death. The guy may be dead but you can't blame paul for his death!

News Khabran / A football contract for an 18 month old
« on: May 12, 2011, 06:50:19 AM »
A 18-month-old boy may be the youngest star to have scored a football contract after being signed by Dutch soccer club VVV-Venlo.
Baerke van der Meij shot to fame last week after his father, Jorg, posted a video of his talented son shooting three balls accurately into his toy box.
The video showcasing the boy's kicking skills has since had more than 1 million views on YouTube and caught the attention of VVV-Venlo, prompting the club to sign the toddler on a 10-year professional contract.
The toddler joined the club's star midfielder, Ken Leemans, during a training session in Venlo's De Koel Stadium before being offered the "symbolic" contract.
"The toddler's favourite position has not yet been determined. However, we can speak of a right-footed player with a very good kicking technique, perseverance and, importantly: football genes via his grandfather," a VVV Venlo press release said.
The club, which Baerke's grandfather also played for, even went so far as to have Baerke attend a press conference and "sign" his contract.
Although Baerke may still have a long way to go, ball skills may be in the little boy's genes because his grandfather used to play for the club.

Gup Shup / Moving out
« on: May 09, 2011, 06:52:13 AM »
1 thing i've noticed is that indian parenting is very different from kiwi parenting. My bf and his family are tight and his parents seem to really love him and look out for him and his brothers. Would you guys say it's the same with your parents? I've witnessed this on what you hear on the media as well.

Kiwi parenting is very different, our parents don't give a damn about us. You see, my mum just asked me to pack my stuff and move out. She's fed up with me and really just won't take it anymore. I don't even know what i've done!   Maybe just a bit but yeah, i've got nothing to apologise for. She's been telling to move out and i want to but i can't atm. In NZ, we're not expected to look after our family, help out or keep in touch with 'em, but it's a really different scenario for my bf and his relationship with his parents. It amazes me.

News Khabran / Beckham involved in a car crashed
« on: May 09, 2011, 06:27:56 AM »
English midfielder David Beckham and his 12-year-old son escaped injury after a car he was driving rear-ended another vehicle on a busy freeway near Los Angeles, police said on Saturday.
The accident on Friday morning local time involving Beckham's Cadillac left the other driver, an unidentified 40-year-old man from Los Angeles, hospitalised after complaints of neck pain.
The other driver's Mitsubishi was stalled in the carpool lane on the 405 freeway in Torrance, a small coastal community just outside of Los Angeles.
Beckham, 36, did not receive a ticket over the incident.
He and his son Brooklyn were described as shaken but not in need of medical treatment, according to reports.
His two younger sons and pregnant wife Victoria were not in the car at the time.
The former England captain is playing in the final season of a five-year contract with Major League Soccer's Los Angeles Galaxy after stints with England's Manchester United and Spain's Real Madrid.
Beckham and the Galaxy were set to host the New York Red Bulls, led by French star Thierry Henry, on Saturday night.

News Khabran / Mcdonalds just before marathon
« on: May 08, 2011, 04:48:16 AM »
A runner who finished 29th in the Los Angeles Marathon ate nothing but McDonald's for a month before the race.
The runner, Joe D'Amico from Palatine in north-west Chicago, completed the marathon in a personal best time of 2 hours, 36 minutes and 13 seconds.
The 36-year-old told the Chicago Sun Times the challenge combined his two loves, McDonald's and running, but he was not doing it for political reasons or to upset anyone.
“It went just as I planned,” D’Amico said after finishing on Sunday.
“The course was much tougher than I expected and the wind and rain didn’t help, but I felt strong.”
He consumed 24 chicken snack wraps, 23 hamburgers, three filet-o-fish burgers, an Aberdeen Angus burger, 63 cookies and 91 hotcakes in the month before the race.
He told the Chicago Sun Times the only things he consumed that were not the on the McDonald's menu were water, a daily multivitamin and the odd runner's gel supplement.
Along the way he picked up more than 23,000 Facebook fans and raised more than $30,000 for Ronald McDonald House.
He celebrated finishing the race with a Snickers bar but would "probably be back in a McDonald’s sometime next week,” he said.
