A beautiful Poem with a beautiful message by James Patrick Kinney
Six humans trapped by happenstance In dark and bitter cold Each one possessed a stick of wood, Or so the story's told.
Their dying fire in need of logs, The first woman held hers back. For on the faces around the fire, She noticed one was black.
The next man looking cross the way, Saw one not of his church, And couldn't bring himself to give The fire his stick of birch.
The third one sat in tattered clothes, He gave his coat a hitch. Why should his log be put to use, To warm the idle rich?
The rich man just sat back and thought Of the wealth he had in store. And how to keep what he had earned From the lazy, shiftless poor.
The black man's face bespoke revenge As the fire passed from sight, For all he saw in his stick of wood Was a chance to spite the white.
The last man of this forlorn group Did naught except for gain Giving only to those who gave Was how he played the game.
The logs held tight in death's still hands Was proof of human sin. They didn't die from the cold without, They died from ---THE COLD WITHIN.

It’s an annoying ritual to some: Clocks go back in the fall and ahead for spring, but why do we do it, when did it start and how does it affect our lives? WHY 2 AM ?Yeah, yeah, we understand that time shifting began as a way to conserve energy, but why is the middle of the night official clock-tweaking time? It’s not like anybody sets an alarm to wake up so they can fix the clock and go back to sleep.Jeanna Bryner, managing editor of Livescience.com, said the federal government wanted people to be safely at home for the switch — and bars and restaurants to be closed.“They also didn’t want early shift workers and churchgoers to be impacted,” she said. “And they didn’t want it to change the day back to the day before, like if you did it at midnight and it became 11 p.m.” WHO THOUGHT IT UP ?
In 1784, Benjamin Franklin lightheartedly suggested the idea to a Paris newspaper to conserve candles. In Britain, builder William Willett, who adored early morning horseback rides, began fighting for it in 1905 but he died before his efforts were rewarded, said Bryner and David Prerau in his book Seize the Day: The Curious and Contentious Story of Daylight Saving Time. Germany was the first to introduce it, during World War I. Britain and the United States followed. Now, about 70 countries have some form of it, covering more than 1 billion people. WHEN STARTED AGAIN?After World War I, daylight saving was left up to local governments. It was reimposed nationwide to conserve energy during World War II and lifted again after the war ended in 1945.Now, the U.S. government doesn’t require that states mandate daylight saving but does demand those on board do it at the same time on the clock and for the same stretch of the year. Daylight saving begins on the second Sunday in March and ends on the first Sunday in November, when clocks are turned back an hour. SLEEP ADJUSTMENTSIf daylight saving sends you into a jet-laggy tailspin, Bryner suggests hitting the sack 15 minutes earlier and waking up 15 minutes earlier for three nights in advance. If you’re lucky, your pets will follow your lead. “You’re getting your body ready for the full hour,” she said. “Experts say not to sleep late that Sunday. Set an alarm if you have to.” Sleep experts estimate millions of people are affected — however temporarily — by the return of daylight saving each spring. If the change proves troublesome long term, avoid reading, eating or watching TV in bed. Still awake? Go for complete quiet and darkness, and a slightly cooler temperature in the room. LET THERE BE LIGHT“Light is the primary cue for our circadian rhythms,” Bryner said. “It tells us when to wake up and when to go to sleep.” It’s also great for the bones, supplying vitamin D. A lack of light has been linked to seasonal affective disorder, a type of depression that touches 1 percent to 10 percent of the population, primarily in the winter months, according to research.

Over the world, people practice numerous wedding customs that have been passed on through many generations. Although each has a long history of meaning and significance, many just seem strange and out of place in today’s culture. Check out some of the historical wedding customs that are still practiced today, much to the intrigue and wonderment of its audience.
Blackening the Bride
To prepare for their marriage, Scottish brides-to-be must go through a very foul pre-wedding ritual. Friends of the bride take her by surprise and cover her with eggs, spoiled milk, feathers, pretty much anything disgusting. The blackened bride is then paraded around town. The purpose of this custom is to prepare the bride for marriage because after going through that, any marital problems will seem like nothing.Polterabend
Polterabend is a German pre-wedding tradition where friends and family come together for an informal party. While that may not seem odd, what they do at these parties certainly is. They break dishes, flowerpots, tiles, toilets, pretty much anything except glasses or mirrors. To symbolize working together through future difficulties, the bride and groom must clean everything up. Due to the need to replace all the broken goods, I suspect that German sellers of housewares are quite fond of this custom.Jumping The Broom
The “Jumping the Broom” is a ceremony practiced by African Americans, in which the bride and groom, either at the ceremony or at the reception, signify their entrance into a new life and their creation of a new family by symbolically “sweeping away” their former single lives, former problems and concerns, and jumping over the broom to enter upon a new adventure as wife and husband. This “leap” into a new life (marriage as wife and husband is performed in the presence of families and friends. You can be as creative as you want when planning for this special ceremony.Throwing nuts and Plums
Koreans believe that if the groom is smiling a lot at the wedding his first child is going to be a daughter. After the wedding groom's parents throw some nuts and plums to the bride. If the bride takes some nuts she'll get many sons.Bathroom Ban
The Tidong are a group of people from northern Borneo with a particularly uncomfortable wedding custom. For the 3 days and 3 nights following the wedding, both the bride and groom are prohibited from using the bathroom. That means no urinating, no defecating, and no bathing. They believe that custom will lead to a long, happy, and fertile marriage. In order to achieve this, the newlyweds are allowed to eat and drink only very small amounts and are watched very closely by family members. (Damn...This is seriously weird )

A local newspaper (in England) ran a competition asking for a rhyme with the most romantic first line... But the least romantic second line. Here are some of the entries they received.
My feelings for you no words can tell, Except for maybe "go to hell" :woried:
Roses are red, violets are blue, sugar is sweet, and so are you. But the roses are wilting, the violets are dead, the sugar bowl's empty and so is your head. /:)
Oh loving beauty you float with grace If only you could hide your face X_X
Kind, intelligent, loving and hot; This describes everything you are not :he:
I want to feel your sweet embrace But don't take that paper bag off of your face :
I love your smile, your face, and your eyes - Damn, I'm good at telling lies! :mean:
I see your face when I am dreaming. That's why I always wake up screaming :pagel:

A 'smart' pill that texts patients' mobile phones if they forget to take their medication is being tested in the UK. Around 40 volunteers are being recruited by NHS doctors to take standard versions of their heart pill fitted with a microchip. The chips in the pills send signals to a patch attached to the patient's shoulder when swallowed.
The Raisin: The system contains a pill with an edible microchip and a patch that sits on the shoulder which texts information to either the doctor or patient Technology in the patch monitors when the pills are swallowed and can send a text if the patient forgets to take medication. The system, known as Raisin, also monitors heart rate, heart activity and how well the patient is sleeping - all of which may signal a deteriorating condition. It costs a few pence per pill and was initially tested in the US, where it improved the rate patients consistently took their medication from 30 per cent to 80 per cent.If successful, the four-month trial being run by Imperial College Healthcare Trust, Imperial College London and the Royal Berkshire Hospital, Reading, could lead to a year-long trial
Professor Nicholas Peters, professor of cardiology at Imperial College Healthcare, said the main aim was encourage heart patients to stick to taking their pills. With a stricter medication regime, it is hoped their health will improve and they will be less likely to be admitted to hospital in an emergency.
The system yesterday received the European Union's CE mark, certifying that it meets consumer and health requirements. It paves the way for the system to be combined with a range of medicines, and clinical trials have begun in the US with drugs for diabetes, organ transplants, mental health and tuberculosis.

At a time when airports around the globe are planning to install full body scanners to maximise security, the US Congress has been warned that the X-ray imaging could increase the risk of skin cancer in air passengers
Children and passengers with gene mutations are more at risk as they are less able to repair X-ray damage to their DNA.The body scanners emit radiation up to 20 times more powerful than previously thought and could be particularly risky for children, said Dr David Brenner, head of Columbia University’s centre for radiological research.
Although the “individual risks” associated with X-ray backscatter scanners are probably extremely small, it could multiply with the number of scanning, he said.
“If all 800 million people who use airports every year were screened with X-rays then the very small individual risk multiplied by the large number of screened people might imply a potential public health or societal risk. The population risk has the potential to be significant,” Dr Brenner quoted.
There should be more research on the device to look at the way it affects specific groups who could be more sensitive to radiation, he said.
According to him, children and passengers with gene mutations — around one in 20 of the population — are more at risk as they are less able to repair X-ray damage to their DNA.
The most likely risk from the airport scanners is a common type of skin cancer called basal cell carcinoma, he said.

This will boggle your mind. And you will keep trying it to see if you can outsmart your foot. But you can't!!!
1. While sitting at your desk, lift your right foot off the floor and make clockwise circles with it.
2. Now, while doing this, draw the number "6" in the air with your right hand. Your foot will change direction!!!
I told you so... And there is nothing you can do about it.

Punjabis are known to celebrate all occasions with grandeur. Punjabi wedding rituals are fun and full of gaiety..Earlier marriage ceremonies were more extended and…. Completed in traditional way…… whereas now..these are restricted to 2-3 days ……. Some are of the opinion that wedding should be a private affair, and there are plenty who think it's an occasion to make a statement...the louder the better!
What u say about the marriage ceremony rituals .. ...
Should be extended and should take place in completely traditional way OR Its not worth spending time and money on marriage rituals….

People who are native to South Asia experience heart attacks at a younger age because of greater levels of heart attack risk factors such as smoking and diabetes at a younger age. According to another report by Public Health Agency of Canada, certain populations, including Aboriginals and certain ethnic groups, such as South Asians, are at an increased risk for cardiovascular diseases.
The South Asian countries of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Nepal account for about a quarter of the world's population and contribute the highest proportion of cardiovascular diseases compared with any other region globally. Deaths related to cardiovascular disease occur 5 to 10 years earlier in South Asian countries than in Western countries, according to background information in the article. This has raised the possibility that South Asians exhibit a special susceptibility for acute myocardial infarction (AMI; heart attack) that is not explained by traditional risk factors.
Baldev Mutta, Executive Director at the Punjabi Community Health Services, comments that South Asians have a greater chance than any other ethnicity in having he art disease. There are many reasons that can be attributed to answer why South Asians have such problem, such as genetics, lifestyle, stress, the food we eat, etc.
Furthermore, factors that increase the risk of CV diseases include family history and age, being a smoker, lack of exercise, unhealthy eating, being overweight, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes and stress. According to recent research, nine in ten Canadians over the age of 20 have at least one risk factor, and four in ten have three or more risk factors.
I am not about to say that you should start worrying about getting heart disease, but I will say that we should at least create a healthy lifestyle. It is always easier to start a good health habit early, and continue it into our later years, than start a new way of living later on.
