ਸੋਰਠਿ ਮਹਲਾ ੪ ॥ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਪ੍ੀਤਿ ਅੰਤਰੁ ਮਨੁ ਬੇਧਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਰਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥ ਜਿਉ ਮਛੁਲੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਨੀਰੈ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਤਿਉ ਨਾਮੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਭ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਜਲੁ ਦੇਵਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਈ ॥ ਹਉ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੰਗਾ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਨਾਮੇ ਹੀ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ ਜਿਉ ਚਾਤਿ੍ਕੁ ਜਲ ਬਿਨੁ ਬਿਲਲਾਵੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਜਲ ਪਿਆਸ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਲੁ ਪਾਵੈ ਸੁਖ ਸਹਜੇ ਹਰਿਆ ਭਾਇ ਸੁਭਾਈ ॥੨॥ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਭੂਖੇ ਦਹ ਦਿਸ ਡੋਲਹਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਈ ॥ ਜਨਮਿ ਮਰੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੋਨੀ ਆਵੈ ਦਰਗਹ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਜਾਈ ॥੩॥ ਕਿ®ਪਾ ਕਰਹਿ ਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਪਾਈ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਭਏੇ ਹੈ ਤਿ੍ਸਨਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥੪॥੮॥
English Translation:
SORATH, FOURTH MEHL: The inner depths of my mind are pierced by love for the Lord; I cannot live without the Lord. Just as the fish dies without water, I die without the Lords Name. || 1 || O my God, please bless me with the water of Your Name. I beg for Your Name, deep within myself, day and night; through the Name, I find peace. || Pause || The song-bird cries out for lack of water without water, its thirst cannot be quenched. The Gurmukh obtains the water of celestial bliss, and is rejuvenated, blossoming forth through the blessed Love of the Lord. || 2 || The self-willed manmukhs are hungry, wandering around in the ten directions; without the Name, they suffer in pain. They are born, only to die, and enter into reincarnation again; in the Court of the Lord, they are punished. || 3 || But if the Lord shows His Mercy, then one comes to sing His Glorious Praises; deep within the nucleus of his own self, he finds the sublime essence of the Lords elixir. The Lord has become Merciful to meek Nanak, and through the Word of the Shabad, his desires are quenched. || 4 || 8 ||

ਅਜੀਬ ਹੈ ਇਹ ਜਿੰਦਗੀ
ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਭੜਕਦਿਆਂ ਬਿਤਾ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਇਨਸਾਨ
ਜਿੰਦਗੀ ਹੈ ਦੇ ਹੁਸੀਨ ਪਲ।
ਸੁੱਕੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਬੁੱਢੀਆ ਅੱਖਾਂ
ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਦਰਦ ਹੈ
ਜਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੇ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ
ਚਮਕ ਹੈ ਹੁਸੀਨ ਯਾਦਾਂ ਦੀ।
ਉਮਰਾਂ ਬੀਤ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਜਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੇ ਅਰਥ ਸਮਝਦਿਆਂ
ਸਮਝ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਜਦ ਉੱਡ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਸਾਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਰਿੰਦੇ
ਰੂਹ ਅਦਿੱਖ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ,ਜਿਸਮ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਮਿੱਟੀ
ਤੇ ਫਿਰ ਇਹ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਹਵਾਵਾਂ ਸੰਗ ਰਲ ਉੱਡਦੀ
ਇੱਕ ਜਗ੍ਹਾ ਤੋਂ ਦੂਸਰੀ ਜਗ੍ਹਾ ਤੱਕ
ਜਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੇ ਅਰਥ ਦੱਸਣ ਲਈ
ਬੜੀ ਅਜੀਬ ਹੈ ਇਹ ਜਿੰਦਗੀ

ਮਾਂ ਹੈ ਰੱਬ ਦਾ ਨਾਂਅ ਸੱਭ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਗੇ ਪਿਆਰੀ
ਜਿਸਨੇ ਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਪੂਜਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਉਸਨੇ ਹੈ ਰੱਬ ਪਾਇਆ
ਮਾਂ ਬਣਾਕੇ ਰੱਬ ਨੇ ਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਣੀ ਸ਼ੀਸ ਨਵਾਇਆ
ਰੱਬ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਸਵੱਰਗ ਬਨਾਏ ਮਾਂ ਤੋ ਲੈਕੇ ਛਾਂ ਉਧਾਰੀ
ਮਾਂ ਹੈ ਰੱਬ ਦਾ ਨਾਂਅ
ਪੁੱਤਰ ਹੋਵੇ ਜਾਂ ਫਿਰ ਧੀ ਮਾਂ ਸਭ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਕੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਚਾਹਵੇ
ਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਗੋਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਜੋ ਸਕੂਨ ਉਹ ਹੋਰ ਕਿਤੇ ਨਾ ਆਵੇ
ਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਬੇਕਦਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਠੋਕਰ ਸਦਾ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਨੇ ਮਾਰੀ
ਮਾਂ ਹੈ ਰੱਬ ਦਾ ਨਾਂਅ
ਮਾਂ ਕੱਢੇ ਗਾਲ੍ਹਾਂ ਬੇਸ਼ੱਕ ਪਰ ਔਲਾਦ ਦਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਨਹੀ ਸਹਿੰਦੀ
ਔਲਾਦ ਦੀ ਖਾਤਰ ਥਾਂ ਥਾਂ ਤੇ ਮਾਂ ਨੱਕ ਰੱਗੜਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ
ਜਿਉਦੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਬੱਚੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਾਂ ਸੁੱਖਾਂ ਸੁੱਖੇ ਸੋ ਸੋ ਵਾਰੀ
ਮਾਂ ਹੈ ਰੱਬ ਦਾ ਨਾਂਅ
ਮਾਂ ਵਰਗਾ ਕੋਈ ਨਾ ਜੱਗ ਤੇ ਮਾਵਾਂ ਹੁੰਦੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਮਾਂਵਾਂ
ਜੰਮਣ ਤੋ ਲੈਕੇ ਮਰਨ ਤੱਕ ਬਣਕੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਪਰਛਾਵਾਂ
ਮਾਂ ਹੈ ਮੱਮਤਾ ਦੀ ਮੂਰਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੱਗ ਤੋਂ ਨਿਆਰੀ
ਮਾਂ ਹੈ ਰੱਬ ਦਾ ਨਾਂਅ
ਸਾਰੀ ਉਮਰ ਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਦੇਣਾ ਔਲਾਦ ਕਦੇ ਨਹੀ ਦੇ ਪਾਵੇ
ਆਪ ਸਹੇ ਧੁੱਪਾਂ ਮਾਂ ਔਲਾਦ ਦੇ ਸਿ਼ਰ ਤੇ ਛਾਂ ਬਣ ਜਾਵੇ
ਮਾਂ ਮੋਹ ਦੀ ਪਿਆਸੀ ਰਹੇ ਜਿੰਦਗੀ ਸਾਰੀ
ਮਾਂ ਹੈ ਰੱਬ ਦਾ ਨਾਂਅ......
ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਜਿੰਨੀਆਂ ਮਾਵਾਂ ਨੇ,ਮਮਤਾ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੂੜੀਆਂ ਛਾਵਾਂ ਨੇ
ਹਿੱਕ ਨਾਲ ਲਾਕੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਚੁੰਮਦੀਆਂ,ਆਪਣੇ ਜ਼ਿਗਰ ਦੇ ਟੁੱਕੜੇ ਨੂੰ

ਸੂਹੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥ ਜੇ ਲੋੜਹਿ ਵਰੁ ਬਾਲੜੀਏੇ ਤਾ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਏੇ ਰਾਮ ॥ ਸਦਾ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਜਾਏੇ ਰਾਮ ॥ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਜਾਏੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਏੇ ਸਾ ਧਨ ਕੰਤ ਪਿਆਰੀ ॥ ਸਚਿ ਸੰਜਮਿ ਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੀਗਾਰੀ ॥ ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਭੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਸਾਚਾ ਜਿਨਿ ਆਪੇ ਆਪੁ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਦਾ ਪਿਰੁ ਰਾਵੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਜਿਨਿ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਪਿਰੁ ਪਾਇਅੜਾ ਬਾਲੜੀਏੇ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਹਜੇ ਮਾਤੀ ਰਾਮ ॥ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਮਨਿ ਅਨਦੁ ਭਇਆ ਤਿਤੁ ਤਨਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਰਾਤੀ ਰਾਮ ॥ ਤਿਤੁ ਤਨਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਰਾਤੀ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਭਿ ਰਾਤੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਭੁ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਏੇ ॥ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਵੇ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਭੁ ਅਪਣਾ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਏੇ ॥ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਹਜਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਅਪਣੇ ਪ੍ੀਤਮ ਰਾਤੀ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਪ੍ਭੁ ਰਾਵੇ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੀ ॥੨॥ ਪਿਰੁ ਰਾਵੇ ਰਾਤੜੀਏੇ ਪਿਰ ਕਾ ਮਹਲੁ ਤਿਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਰਾਮ ॥ ਸੋ ਸਹੋ ਅਤਿ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਜਿਨਿ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਰਾਮ ॥ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਹਰਿ ਭਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਣੀ ॥ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਨਿਤ ਸਾਚੇ ਕਥੇ ਅਕਥ ਕਹਾਣੀ ॥ ਜੁਗ ਚਾਰੇ ਸਾਚਾ ਏੇਕੋ ਵਰਤੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਵੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੀ ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਆ ॥੩॥ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਮਨਿ ਸੋਹਿਲੜਾ ਸਾਜਨ ਮਿਲੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਰਾਮ ॥ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਆ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖਿਆ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰੇ ਰਾਮ ॥ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖਿਆ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰੇ ਅਪਨਾ ਕਾਰਜੁ ਸਵਾਰੇ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਤਾ ॥ ਪ੍ੀਤਮਿ ਮੋਹਿ ਲਇਆ ਮਨੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਪਾਇਆ ਕਰਮ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ॥ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਮੰਨਿ ਮੁਰਾਰੇ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਮੇਲਿ ਲਈ ਗੁਰਿ ਅਪੁਨੈ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥੪॥੫॥੬॥
English Translation:
SOOHEE, THIRD MEHL: If you long for your Husband Lord, O young and innocent bride, then focus your consciousness on the Gurus feet. You shall be a happy soul bride of your Dear Lord forever; He does not die or leave. The Dear Lord does not die, and He does not leave; through the peaceful poise of the Guru, the soul bride becomes the lover of her Husband Lord. Through truth and self-control, she is forever immaculate and pure; she is embellished with the Word of the Gurus Shabad. My God is True, forever and ever; He Himself created Himself. O Nanak, she who focuses her consciousness on the Gurus feet, enjoys her Husband Lord. || 1 || When the young, innocent bride finds her Husband Lord, she is automatically intoxicated with Him, night and day. Through the Word of the Gurus Teachings, her mind becomes blissful, and her body is not tinged with filth at all. Her body is not tinged with filth at all, and she is imbued with her Lord God; my God unites her in Union. Night and day, she enjoys her Lord God; her egotism is banished from within. Through the Gurus Teachings, she easily finds and meets Him. She is imbued with her Beloved. O Nanak, through the Naam, the Name of the Lord, she obtains glorious greatness. She ravishes and enjoys her God; she is imbued with His Love. || 2 || Ravishing her Husband Lord, she is imbued with His Love; she obtains the Mansion of His Presence. She is utterly immaculate and pure; the Great Giver banishes self-conceit from within her. The Lord drives out attachment from within her, when it pleases Him. The soul bride becomes pleasing to the Lords Mind. Night and day, she continually sings the Glorious Praises of the True Lord; she speaks the Unspoken Speech. Throughout the four ages, the One True Lord is permeating and pervading; without the Guru, no one finds Him. O Nanak, she revels in joy, imbued with His Love; she focuses her consciousness on the Lord. || 3 || The mind of the soul bride is very happy, when she meets her Friend, her Beloved Lord. Through the Gurus Teachings, her mind becomes immaculate; she enshrines the Lord within her heart. Keeping the Lord enshrined within her heart, her affairs are arranged and resolved; through the Gurus Teachings, she knows her Lord. My Beloved has enticed my mind; I have obtained the Lord, the Architect of Destiny. Serving the True Guru, she finds lasting peace; the Lord, the Destroyer of pride, dwells in her mind. O Nanak, she merges with her Guru, embellished and adorned with the Word of the Guru's Shabad. || 4 || 5 || 6 ||
