A woman dressed all in black and holding what is thought to be a child’s severed head has been arrested near a metro station in Moscow. She was shouting, “I am a terrorist,” and reportedly threatened to blow herself up.

The victim was a girl, identified as Nastya M. After the murder, the female suspect went to a metro station, where she was stopped by a local police officer. She immediately took the severed child’s head from her bag and started shouting that she had killed the child. The suspect is currently being detained by police authorities, Russian media reported.

“The end of the world is coming in a second…I’m your death,” the woman is heard shouting in the video released online. “I hate democracy. I’m a terrorist.”

She is heard shouting that she has been “cursed” and “destroyed” “so many times.”

“I'm your suicide bomber… I'm going to die in a second…The end of the world…,” she shouted.

The woman appeared near Oktyabrskoye Pole metro station in northwest Moscow.

News Khabran / Army of women cooks puts heart into Valentine’s Day
« on: February 15, 2016, 12:57:25 AM »
Mumbai: A group of women with a flair for cooking is showing how spending a few hours on a single day to do voluntary work can alleviate the hunger of the most needy segments of society.
This Sunday, the team which calls itself the Food Army will celebrate Valentine's Day as Annapurna Din. It has organised one of the biggest food donation drives in the country. No financial donation is involved at all. Residents of various cities have been told to cook regional specialities which will be distributed to underprivileged children in their neighbourhood.
For instance, residents of Mumbai and Gujarat can donate 25 homemade theplas and six cupcakes. People in Chennai can contribute idli chutney to their local collection centre, while natives in Rajasthan can prepare baati and churma. Punjabis can distribute parathas, while residents of Madhya Pradesh can arrange for savouries and methi pudi.
Apart from Mumbai, Annapurna Din will be celebrated in New Delhi, Vadodara, Rajkot, Hyderabad, Nashik, Pune and Ahmedabad.
In Mumbai, the drive begins at the Ramakrishna Mission (RKM), Khar, on Saturday. "We have set up 35 collection centres in the city where people can donate the food items on February 13. The following morning, on Valentine's Day, they can join us for the distribution drive at RKM. Various teams will fan out to localities where street children live," said baker Rintu Rathod, who is at the helm of this initiative.
The core team, based in Santacruz, includes Vinita Hurkat, Shefali Thaker, Neetu Singh, Sunita Hurkat and Dr Krishna Desai. Over a hundred volunteers have taken part in various projects from time-to-time.

It is nothing new for one schoolgirl in Hokkaido, Japan, who, for the past three years, has reportedly been the only passenger to use the 7.04am and 5.08pm trains that pass through the remote Kami-Shirataki station.
The story goes, that three years ago, the Hokkaido Railway Co was set to close the station as its remote location meant it was almost entirely unused.
After learning that there remained a single student who still used the service for her daily travel to high school, the company decided to keep the station open until she graduated in March this year.
More generous still is that the company adjusted the train timetable to fit in with the unnamed student's school schedule.
However a contrasting report by Singapore newspaper The Straits Times suggests the happy tale may have been slightly embellished.
Quoting the Taiwan Apple Daily, the newspaper said the student actually took the train from Kyu-Shirataki Station, with more than 10 schoolmates at 7.15am, and that they had a choice of three trains for their return journey at the end of each day.
The Taiwanese media outlet confirmed that Japan Railways would close three underused stations by March this year, but the decision to do so may not have been related to the student's graduation date.

‘Most inappropriate selfie ever’: Couple put to shame over photo in front of burning Dubai hotel

A couple that took a photo of themselves with the burning Address Downtown Dubai hotel in the background has been put to shame by Twitter users.

The tragic incident, which happened on New Year’s Eve ahead of a grand fireworks display, was snapped and posted by many social media users with different hashtags, including #Dubaifire.

However, the photo of the couple posing with the billowing building as a backdrop sparked a Twitter storm on Friday. Social media users expressed reactions from “the most inappropriate selfie ever” to the “best selfie of the year.” The majority of tweets reflected extreme disapproval, however.

After enjoying years of raking in astonishing wealth from gas and oil revenues, six Gulf countries are starting to feel the financial pinch following a fall in prices and are set to tax their citizens.
Known as the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC), the loose federation, consisting of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates, will introduce VAT for the first time.
With the exception of a few basic charges like traffic tolls, the Gulf countries have long resisted the need to directly tax their people and ex-pats.

Saudi Arabia is planning to execute more than 50 people, found guilty of terrorism, in a single day. The move was immediately slammed by Amnesty International, which said the Saudis are “using the guise of counter-terrorism to settle political scores.”

The information about executions was recently released in Saudi media, which said that up to 55 ‘Al-Qaeda terrorists’ and 'criminals' from the town of Awamiyya will be executed in the next few days. However, it hasn’t been specified when and how exactly the executions will take place. Awamiya, in Eastern Province where the authorities suppressed protests in 2011, has a predominantly Shiite population. According to sources, the executions may be carried out after Friday prayers.

Reuters cited the Saudi Okaz newspaper as saying these 55 people are accused of sedition, attacks on security officials, and attempts to overthrow the government and carry out attacks by using explosives and surface-to-air missiles. According to Okaz, those on death row have killed more than 100 civilians and 71 security personnel.

One of the prisoners is accused of attempting to buy nuclear material in Yemen worth $1.5 million for use inside Saudi Arabia.

News Khabran / Li-Fi 100 times faster than Wi-FI
« on: November 25, 2015, 08:58:19 AM »
Expect to hear a whole lot more about Li-Fi - a wireless technology that transmits high-speed data using visible light communication (VLC) - in the coming months. With scientists achieving speeds of 224 gigabits per second in the lab using Li-Fi earlier this year, the potential for this technology to change everything about the way we use the Internet is huge.

And now, scientists have taken Li-Fi out of the lab for the first time, trialling it in offices and industrial environments in Tallinn, Estonia, reporting that they can achieve data transmission at 1 GB per second - that's 100 times faster than current average Wi-Fi speeds.

"We are doing a few pilot projects within different industries where we can utilise the VLC (visible light communication) technology," Deepak Solanki, CEO of Estonian tech company, Velmenni, told IBTimes UK.

"Currently we have designed a smart lighting solution for an industrial environment where the data communication is done through light. We are also doing a pilot project with a private client where we are setting up a Li-Fi network to access the Internet in their office space.”

Li-Fi was invented by Harald Haas from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland back in 2011, when he demonstrated for the first time that by flickering the light from a single LED, he could transmit far more data than a cellular tower. Think back to that lab-based record of 224 gigabits per second - that's 18 movies of 1.5 GB each being downloaded every single second.

The technology uses Visible Light Communication (VLC), a medium that uses visible light between 400 and 800 terahertz (THz). It works basically like an incredibly advanced form of Morse code - just like switching a torch on and off according to a certain pattern can relay a secret message, flicking an LED on and off at extreme speeds can be used to write and transmit things in binary code.

And while you might be worried about how all that flickering in an office environment would drive you crazy, don’t worry - we’re talking LEDs that can be switched on and off at speeds imperceptible to the naked eye

Happy  Gurpurab To All

Guru Nanak Dev, the first Sikh guru and the founder of the Sikh religion, was born on the full moon day in the month of Kartik as per the Hindu calendar. Hence, his birthday is celebrated as Guru Nanak Jayanti. The date falls in October or November in the Gregorian calendar. Guru Nanak was born in 1469 A.D. at Rai-Bhoi-di Talwandi, some 30 miles from Lahore, in the present Pakistan. The Sikhs visit Gurdwaras where special programs are arranged and kirtans (religious songs) are sung. Houses and Gurdwaras are decorated and lit up to add to the festivities.

Guru Nanak Jayanti marks the culmination of the Prabhat Pheris, the early morning processions that start from the Gurdwaras (Sikh temples) and then proceeds around the localities singing 'shabads' (hymns). The celebration also includes the three-day Akhand path, during which the holy book, the Guru Granth Sahib is read continuously, from beginning to end without a break. On the day of the festival, the Guru Granth Sahib is also carried in a procession on a float, decorated with flowers, throughout the village or city. Five armed guards, who represent the Panj Pyaras, head the procession carrying the Nishan Sahib (the Sikh flag). Local bands playing religious music form a special part of the procession.

Free sweets and community lunches, or langar, are offered to everyone irrespective of religious faith. Men, women, and children, participate in this karseva as service to the community by cooking food and distributing it in the 'Guru ka Langar', with the traditional 'Karah Prasad'. Guru Nanak Dev's life served as a beacon light for his age. He was a great seer, saint and mystic. He was a prolific poet and a unique singer of God's laudation. A prophet of peace, love, truth and renaissance, he was centuries ahead of his times. His universal message is as fresh and true even today as it was in the past and Sikhs all over the world - practice what Guru Nanak Dev preached, to reaffirm your beliefs in the teachings of your founder.

FRANCE has acted swiftly in retaliation for the deadly terrorist attacks in Paris by dropping 20 bombs on ISIS capital Raqqa in Syria.  :bomb:

A command post, training camp, jihadi recruitment centre and weapons factory have been destroyed, according to the French Ministry of Defence.

On Friday night ISIS attacked six locations in Paris, killing at least 129 people, and injuring hundreds more.

One terrorist involved in the atrocities, Abdeslam Salah, is currently on the run.

A Pentagon official earlier said the US and France would be stepping up efforts to bring about a lasting defeat of ISIS.

A statement from the French government said: "The raid, including 10 fighter jets, was launched simultaneously from the United Arab Emirates and Jordan. 20 bombs were dropped."

The strikes have taken place this evening, with more details of the targets set to emerge.

A French defense official has said the country had launched a "massive" series of airstrikes on Raqqa, ISIS' self-declared capital, involving 12 planes, including 10 fighter jets, with 20 bombs were dropped

News Khabran / Paris 'shooting' live: 'At least 140 dead'
« on: November 13, 2015, 06:03:04 PM »
France was rocked by multiple, near simultaneous attacks on entertainment sites around Paris on Friday evening and French media said at least 60 people were killed and hostages were being held in a concert hall in the capital.

The apparently coordinated gun and bomb attacks came as the country, a founder member of the U.S.-led coalition waging air strikes against Islamic State fighters in Syria and Iraq, was on high alert for terrorist attacks ahead of a global climate conference that opens later this month.

Western security sources said they suspected an Islamist militant group was behind the carnage.

At least two explosions were heard near the Stade de France national stadium where a France-Germany friendly football match was being played, attended by President Francois Hollande.

The match continued until the end but panic broke out in the crowd as rumours of the attack spread, and spectators were held in the stadium and assembled spontaneously on the pitch.

There were reports of possibly as many as four shootings in central Paris, one of which turned into a hostage taking at a popular rock music venue, witnesses said.

TF1 television said up to 35 people were dead near the football stadium, including two suspected suicide bombers in the attack in the neighbourhood of Saint Denis, north of central Paris.
