- There are strong indications that a social media blackout was imposed.  Many felt and were intimidated to post any information regarding the protests in Punjab or the current situation.  This has effectively choked the cyber chatter on Twitter/FaceBook and other social media coming out of Punjab and appears to be a blatant violation of freedom of speech, something not expected from a democratic country.

- The US Government should condemn these violations of democratic rights to free speech and peaceful protests.

Two youths were killed in Gurdaspur city in India's northern Punjab state on Thursday (March 29) as police opened fire to disperse the crowed protesting against the federal government's decision deferring the death penalty on Balwant Singh Rajoana, co-accused in the assassination of the state's then Chief Minister Beant Singh in 1995.
