Police charge man with stealing Ferrari




A MELBOURNE casino patron has been charged with theft for taking a joyride across the city in a Ferrari after mistakenly being given the keys to the $500,000 sports car by a parking valet.

Police believe the red Ferrari was stolen about 12.30am (AEST) today when a parking attendant handed the car keys over to the wrong person.

Crown Casino spokesman Gary O'Neill said sometimes punters reported missing valet tickets to parking attendants.

"In those circumstances, we require proof of ID, usually a driver's licence," he said.

"That procedure was followed on this occasion."

Mr O'Neill said the procedures, which had not failed prior to the incident, would be reviewed.

CCTV footage from the casino has been handed to police.

Broadmeadows police spotted the sports car at a service station in Barry Rd, Coolaroo, about 6.30am (AEST) and arrested a 32-year-old man seen leaving the scene.


They later charged him with one count of theft of a car. He will appear at a Melbourne court this afternoon.
