Chandigarh August 15:
            In a major initiative to upgrade road infrastructure in Punjab, the state government has planned to invest more than Rs 25,000 crore into a series of projects aimed at improving the efficiency of road transport network.
In his message on the eve of the Independence Day, Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal today said under this ambitious programme, the state government had chalked out infrastructure revamp in Punjab, covering over 13,000 kilometers and involving major four-laning, six-laning, widening and up-gradation of all key transport arteries in the state.
He said Punjab, during the last three years of the SAD-BJP regime, had achieved a rare distinction of constructing and completing maximum ROBs in the Northern Railway. ''We started on 27 ROBs/RUBs in the state with an estimated cost of Rs 400 crore out of which 14 ROBs have been completed and opened to traffic. The remaining 13 ROBs/RUBs will be completed within the current financial year,'' he said. Twelve more ROBs/RUBs would be constructed during the next financial year with an estimated cost of Rs 250 crore.
