A "Monstrous" Crime~ Female Foeticide
« on: May 06, 2010, 12:04:46 AM »
Though its not a new topic for discussion but they have been still meeting silent deaths....

--It is believed that millions of female foetuses have been aborted in India over the past 20 years. And the practice of brutally murdering `unborn` daughters is continuing unabated.
--On April 19, authorities in Gujarat found over a dozen human foetuses in a rubbish bin in Ahmedabad. They suspect that local abortion clinics might have dumped the foetuses after conducting illegal sex determination tests. And anyways, female foeticide is not at all a new phenomenon in India.
--According to a report by the UNICEF, Jat boys from Haryana are seeking brides from as far away as Kerala because of fewer girls in their own state.

--The current sex ratio in India, as per 2001 Census, is 1000:927 (1,000 boys and 927 girls) while in some states like Gujarat the ratio stands at 1000:878, Himachal Pradesh 1000:820 and Chhatisgarh 1000:845, according to the National Commission of Women (NCW) chairperson Girija Vyas. In 1991, the national figure was 947 girls to 1000 boys.

SO WHY DOES THIS HAPPENS???

1.High priority is given to the male child with the belief that he will be the one to care for his parents in their old age whereas a daughter would not. It is also believed that the male will be the breadwinner of the family.
 2. Another reason is the notion that without a male child, there would be no future generations bearing the family name.
 3. The dowry system in India also is a contributing factor to female foeticide and infanticide; the thought of having to scrounge up an exorbitant amount for the daughter’s wedding in the future is a deterrent, especially to poor families.

HERE'S LATEST CENSUS REPORT ON THIS CRIMINAL AND PATHETIC ACT--

1.A survey conducted by the United Nations in 2007 revealed that over 2,000 unborn girls are aborted every day in India.
2.A research conducted by Prabhat Jha, Canada Research Chair in Health and Development at the University of Toronto, and his colleagues from India indicated the deficit of over 10 million female births in India over the past two decades. The research, based on a national survey of 1.1 million households in 1998 and published in 2006 in The Lancet journal, said pre-natal selection and selective abortion were leading to the loss of 500,000 girls a year in India.
3.However, the study was disputed by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) that claimed the number of female foeticides is closer to 250,000 per year.
4.Indians in other countries are going for sex selective abortions is evident by the fact that sex ratio at birth among the Indian community in New Jersey is as bad as in Punjab and Haryana.
A report in the British Newspaper, 'observer', hand come up with evidence that British Asian women go to India to abort their baby girls.

hmm, We can see how bad is this situation? In my opinion, Parents, Girl, Government , society and Medical rofessionals all r responsible for this disgusting situation..mainly young boys ang girls need to take efforts for bringing awareness in society..

I want to ask PUNJABI JANTA..What shoud be done against this crime??????

hmmm...awful! I think the reason for this is that people are not educated enough, they still have backward thinking..  education might be the key to eliminate this problem.. another option is communicating with the people with this kind of thinking.. but i dont think anyone has that much time in their lives go n to talk to these people..  television programs might be helpful, they should promote programs that can  help to change such kind of thinking in people..idk..  :woried:

This is really sad to see all these figures that shows female foeticide.
Well the post is self explanatory about the reasons, that dowry system and all contributes and fire up these numbers.
What can be done?
nice question
But better would be
How can it be done in such a corrupt country
We always say we are proud to be Punjabi, punjab also have this problem.
Protest against the hospitals who carry out abortion procedures.
Only approved hospitals should be doing it only if there is some complication/ threat to one or the other.
anyone found guilty of doing it ,should be prosecuted. thats how its should be
Baaki keha suneya maaf Rab rakha sareya de .. te ki banu dunia da?

I think Indian government should do something about this. If only they would do something.

Thanks for responses frdzz... =D> =D>
but i think whatever we want to do shud start from our own house..
We r going to be part of this big crime in future...this depends on us how we  gonna tackle the situation....
Everbody blame opposite sex for this crime..but in my opinion girls r equally responsible..at least for dowry system..
My cousins and frdz got married and they accepted lots of stuff from their parents..and even now lookup on their parents for more help for their settlement..but why????
When i ask them they say that we didn't force them this is just gift becoz they want their daughters happy in their inlaws family...so this is opinion of educated generation...

I think u dont have right to get married (for both boys & girls) if u r not able to bear wedding expenses and settle ur family lateron..

I have never done anything against my parents wishes till now..but i will certainly revolt against this dowry system if i will need to do it...

I really don't think  Indian Government  or law enforcement can work.. especially in this case..
Laws against sex determination continue to be flouted with impunity in  India, and the statistics has become even worse... after the law enforcement.

I think sex determination should be legal..
In Indian scenario.. it is goin on even after  the law enforcement.. the people who are affording .. can get the sex of their baby determined easily..
and those who r poor.. give birth to so many girls ... for the sake of having a male child.. and those girls are again poorly treated.. weaned off from necessities of life... so it'll be better ..rather than dying so many deaths a day they should be killed.. before birth.
