Two people were killed while 14 Indian Kabaddai women players and three coaches were injured when their bus caught fire after colliding with an army truck near Cantt area here today.
The deceased were identified as bus driver Varinder Sharma and Punjab Police Head Constable Harjit Singh, police sources said. The incident occurred when the Kabbadi team was proceeding in a delux bus to Badal village in Muktsar district for a dinner hosted by Bathinda MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal.
The army truck first collided with a pilot gypsy and then it rammed into the bus which caught fire. All the 14 Kabaddai (women) players were injured in the mishap. They were rushed to a local private hospital from where eight of them were discharged later while six were still under treatment. Three coaches, two of them women, were also injured besides a woman Sub Inspector of police. They were also admitted to the hospital.
