It is so shameful that there are only 825 girls to every 1000 boys in Punjab. Shame on us, as Punjabis.

Those that practice female feticide are regular every-day people around us, amongst us.

The Indian census data from 2001 as well as 2011 suggests that there is a positive correlation between abnormal sex ratio and better socio-economic status and literacy, and implies higher prevalence of sex selective abortion in urban areas.

What is wrong with our society. Shame on us. And this in the land where Sikhism, one of the most egalitarian religions in the world took birth.

Why is it that so many of our educated and well-to-do in Punjab kill their own fetuses inspite of their ability to support and educate the child ? Why is it that they know no better, and do no better, by virtue of their education ?

Let's create awareness around us about this within our families and friend circles and see a person who does this as a criminal, and someone to be abhorred, punished and shunned.

Punjab has the highest rate of female feticide in India. Haryana is the closest competitor.

Since 2001.. Punjab and Haryana alternate between number 1 and 2 spot.. and states in North East as well as the 4 states of the South have normal ratios.

In my personal opinion, despite being well educated some still grew up with the mentality that a male child will be able to provide more for his family while the parents would have to save money for a female child for her to get married. Women are still considered weak property that's passed from one house to anther and it's actually VERY sad. Because those parents that kill their daughters in the womb are the same that are disowned by their sons later on. Karma does come back to these people.

Having a daughter is the biggest blessing for a parent. Girls will always choose their parents no matter what they've done to her while a son won't look twice. I'm generally speaking of course, every house hold is different. Plus giving your daughter away at her wedding is considered to be a direct entry in to heaven.. So I've heard at least.

Not only selective abortions, but the state of being all over India for many women is horrendous and disgusting.

Everything being said is so accurate. However there are so many outside factors with the society that may lead the parents of the girl to take such steps 'majboori ch'. they go people, mainly other women are like 'munda haini' 'chal kuriya hi ah' 'tu munda ho jandi' 'becharey' etc and many parents may not have the strength to deal with these things may take such steps. At the end of the day its all about how people still think girls aren't equal to boys which has got to change!!!!

Kuriya nal hi family di izzat kyo connected hai Punjab vich. Jehra ajj kal de munde Punjab vich drugs te alcohol aina karde hai, Punjab has one of the highest per capita alcohol consumption rates in the WORLD.. Ohde nal izzat ni ruldi families di ? Boys nu ta encourage karde hai songs vich v te society vich v to go out there and do crazy stuff. And a guy has a girlfriend ohdi taur, and a girl falls in love, ohdi sharam.

It's just that women have always been financially dependent, so the onus to maintain respectability is placed on them, and boys are told to go out there and have fun. Boys are as much a representative of their family as girls are.

And girls should have as much freedom as men have, in life, love and in every small or big decision. Or instead set the same high bar for judgement for men that you set for women.

Either judge them with the same high standards or don't judge them at all. Keep it equal.

In reference to what Aman had said.. I truly feel as though a woman is a woman's enemy.

There are so many women out there who deliberately ruin another woman's household by saying such things.

Every hour, statistically 6-8 girls are raped in India and instead of blaming the male they say the girl instigated it.. Half of those girls are under the age of 14.. How the fck is a 10 year old the cause of her own rape?

If a girl according to Desi cultures is 'parayi' ie she's going to leave the family one day why is she more izzat conscius than the sharabi kwabi munda who carries the family name :idk:

Our society contradicts itself..

My grandparents dont say it but I can see that they prefer my brothers over me.. They're always pushing tiny trivial tasks my brothers could've easily done on me. Mind you I get home between the hours of 6-9:30 when they're home since 2-4:30 :wow: And they're old, they're not kids. It's sad when you see it in your own household.

Then my grandma has the nerve to tell me that kudia putha wargia hundia, like okay then make them do some housework too! :smh:

Although I've always faced the 'haww bichari munda haini' :smh: my grandparents always think I need my cousins to drop me off etc because I don't have a brother although its just them bing nice but they need to realise girls don't need protecting I'm sure we know right from wrong and wouldn't become the type in Punjabi songs but no they have their fears. Referring back to the a woman is a woman's enemy is so true I think ladies with sons think by giving birth to a XY chromosome indivusal has increased their status with in the family and they can't get disrespected now :wow: funnily enough men never face this I think its all created by women for women to be apples to women woah.
