Yea, I think last year government ne issue keeta see letter. That if you ever  had an Indian passport you need to submit it to the consulate. If you lost it or whatever you needed to let them know.

There was also a deadline, my dad surrendered his, I remember. They also said if you didn't submit by the deadline there was a fee.

When did you get your Canadian citizenship?

Here's something from the consulate:

Indian citizens acquiring any foreign citizenship on or after 1 June, 2010 must formally renounce Indian citizenship. This can be done by surrendering their Indian passports for cancellation and obtaining a “Surrender Certificate” endorsement on the cancelled passport.  They would be required to pay a one time Renunciation Fee of Canadian $ 168 while surrendering their Indian passports to the High Commission of India in Ottawa (Mission) or the Consulate General of India in Toronto or Vancouver (Consulate).  The Indian passports would be cancelled and returned to the passport holder along with “Surrender Certificate” endorsement for future reference.

Ah parh la fer:

Those who acquired foreign citizenship on 31 May, 2010 or earlier need not pay the Renunciation Fee. However, they must get their Indian Passport, whether already expired or not, duly cancelled. For this, they can approach the nearest Indian Mission/Consulate which will make necessary entries in the records, cancel the passport and return it after marking it “Cancelled” for future reference. A fee of C$20 is charged for this service.

The Mission/Consulate would levy penalty if the Indian passport has not been cancelled for more than 3 years, or if it was utilized to visit India, or any other consular service was obtained after acquiring foreign nationality. The penalty would be in addition to the Renunciation Fee. Contact your nearest Mission/Consulate to find out the exact amount of penalty. Broadly speaking, following are the provisions relating to penalty:

(A) Penalty for Retention of Indian Passport after acquiring Canadian citizenship for a period in excess of three years from the date of acquiring Canadian citizenship
(a) if your Passport expired on or before 31 Dec, 2004 – no penalty
(b) if your Passport expired on or after 1 Jan, 2005 – C$ 240

Hi How are you mate
Well I have to surrender mine too. In Australia you have to pay about 300 dollars for Indian Passport cancellation . Its now compulsary here or you just cannot travel back to India.
In here you need to book an apointment and get an online form to do so. You can aply 10 years Visa at the same time. Takes about 3 months for evwrything. 700-800 dollars it will be in aussie..
