English or punjabi?
« on: January 14, 2011, 07:00:06 PM »
I reckon that english is a lot more complicated than punjabi, we got long and difficult words in english, it's bad enough our teachers make us write massive essays a thousand times making it perfect, so i guess i'll have to go with the bottom option, about the same. Which is because 1 language i'm still learning and the other is also complicated(at school that is).

Punjabi's talk in metaphors so its hard to understand us if your new to it. English is pretty straight forward. Learning to read punjabi is pretty simple if you know(meanings) the words you are reading. Learning a language is pretty hard no matter what, so just keep at it.

Its easy to learn to speak both the languages easily ...

To read and write I would say punjabi is more difficult because you have more alphabets in punjabi and its more complex to write  :whew: english is way too easy to read and write .. there are not many grammar rules in english too.

I find pronouncing words in punjabi to be hard at 1st but shouldn't be a problem when i get the hang of it, and this is what i've noticed, once i've worked on my pronunciation, reading shouldn't be a lot o' hassle. The punjabi alphabets i know but writing will indeed take time and therefore the hardest.

yup I agree .. and you dont have to worry about writing punjabi .. quite a few of us dont write punjabi ... we use the translators online.. where you type in english (with the right pronunciation) and it will convert to punjabi gurmukhi script .. :)

Try - Main theek haan, tussi suano.  [Eng: I am fine, how about you]

It will convert to the punjabi script :)

the European Union commissioners have announced that agreement has been reached to adopt English as the preferred language for European communications, rather than German, which was the other possibility.
As part of the negotiations, the British government conceded that English spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a five-year phased plan for what will be known as EuroEnglish (Euro for short).
In the first year, "s" will be used instead of the soft "c". Sertainly, sivil servants will resieve this news with joy.
Also, the hard "c" will be replaced with "k". Not only will this klear up konfusion, but typewriters kan have one less letter.
There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year, when the troublesome "ph" will be replaced by "f". This will make words like "fotograf" 20 per sent shorter.
In the third year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be expekted to reach the stage where more komplikated changes are possible.
Governments will enkorage the removal of double letters, which have always ben a deterent to akurate speling. Also, al wil agre that the horible mes of silent "e"s in the languag is disgrasful, and they would go.
By the fourth year, peopl wil be reseptiv to steps such as replasing "th" by "z" and "w" by " v".
During ze fifz year, ze unesesary "o" kan be dropd from vords kontaining "ou", and similar changes vud of kors be aplid to ozer kombinations of leters.
Und efter ze fifz yer, ve vil al be speking German like zey vunted in ze forst place....

Thats why i found always difficult to write english two letters can be used for same voice. Bt in punjabi we hv different letter for each voice. Bt punjabi its hard to speak for nonpunjabis.

You read my mind. That's exactly how i expected it to be, to come here and pick it up eventually. There aren't any punjabi classes or punjabi temples here. You're not making this sound easy for me.  :pagel:

I would say both are equally difficult and easy
As the english which we speak is not grammatically correct... its more like conveying the meaning
and Punjabi...though it is my mother tongue..but still i feel like i learn some new vocab everyday
like few days back..i got to know the word 'Tharki'  :loll:
which means flirt :pagel:

and the funny thing is that this is a punjabi word...but the girl who told me about this is not Punjabi...
she is phillipino  :loll:
