Raptors, Superfan Host Fifth Annual Baisakhi Day Celebration

The Toronto Raptors enjoy tremendous fan support from the entire city of Toronto, but tomorrow night the South Asian community will be front and centre as the team’s “Superfan” Nav Bhatia hosts the fifth annual Baisakhi Day game when the Raptors meet the Milwaukee Bucks at 7 p.m.

The popular game, which has been a sell out in each of its first four seasons, is used as a celebration by the South Asian community for Baisakhi Day, which recognizes the birth of the Sikh faith over 300 years ago.

“We are very lucky to be able to celebrate so many faiths and cultures in Toronto, and this game is something the South Asian community looks forward to every year,” said Bhatia, the colourful fan who hasn’t missed a Raptors home game in the team’s eight seasons. “We are happy to show our support for the Raptors as this season wraps up and to show the team that we are always behind them.”

The highlight of the annual Baisakhi Day game is the delivery of the game ball to centre court by a baby elephant.

“The Baisakhi Day celebration has become a tradition with the Raptors, and we thank Nav for making it happen,” said Jim Roe, director, Raptors game operations. “We like our entertainment to reflect our fans and our community. It’s interesting events like these that have helped us rank tops in the NBA for game entertainment.”

lol Nav Bhatia is the superfan who spends $40,000 each year for Raptor tickets

BTW they don't really show this on TV I think, like I've never seen half-time shows on TNT, except for All-Star weekend. They usually have Half-Time Report or something else.
