ਸਿੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ

ਸਿੱਖੀ ਨੂੰ ਦਸ ਗੁਰੂਆਂ, ਜਿੰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਅਧਿਆਪਕ ਜਾਂ ਮਾਸਟਰ ਦੇ ਤੌਰ ਕੇ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਜਾਦਾ ਹੈ, ਨੇ 1469 ਤੋਂ 1708 ਵਿੱਚ ਤਿਆਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਅਧਿਆਪਕ ਰੂਹਾਨੀ ਜੋਤ ਸਨ, ਜਿੰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਜਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਖ ਮਕਸਦ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਭਲਾਈ ਹੀ ਮਕਸਦ ਸੀ। ਹਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਦਾ ਸਮਰਥਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਸ਼ਾਮਿਲ ਕੀਤੀ, ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਨਤੀਜੇ ਵਜੋਂ ਸਿੱਖ ਧਰਮ ਦੀ ਨੀਂਹ ਤਿਆਰ ਹੋਈ। ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਦੇ ਰੂਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਖਰੀ। ਜਦੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਤਿਆਗਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਗਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੂੰ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਆਖਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਅੰਤਮ ਗੁਰੂ ਬਣਾਇਆ।

ਪੰਜ ਪਿਆਰੇ

ਸਿੱਖ ਧਰਮ ਦੇ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੰਜਾਂ ਪਿਆਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਪੰਜਾ ਨੂੰ "ਪਿਆਰਿਆਂ" ਦਾ ਮਾਨ ਤਾਂ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਵੀ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਖਾਲਸਾ ਹੋਣ ਦਾ ਮਾਨ ਬਖਸ਼ਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਹੁਕੁਮ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਵਾਨ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ।

1. ਕੇਸ

ਕੇਸ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੀ ਮੋਹਰ ਹਨ, ਸਿੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਮੰਨ ਕੇ ਕੇਸਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਲਈ ਦਸਤਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਕੇਸਕੀ ਸਜਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਕਾਇਮ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪੈਰ ਦੇ ਅੰਗੂਠੇ ਤੋਂ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਸਿਰ ਦੀ ਚੋਟੀ ਤੱਕ ਕੇਸਾਂ ਦੀ ਬੇਅਦਬੀ ਨਾ ਕਰਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਬਖਸ਼ਸ਼ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ।


2.ਕੰਘਾ
ਕੰਘਾ ਕੇਸਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਫਾਈ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਵਰਤਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੇਸਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਕੰਘਾ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਕੇਸਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਫਾਈ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉੱਥੇ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਦਰਸਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਕੇਸਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਫਾਈ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਨਾਲ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਸਫਾਈ ਵੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਏ।


3.ਕੜਾ
ਕੜਾ ਦਰਸਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਸਿੱਖ ਹੁਣ ਗੁਰੂ ਵਾਲਾ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਗਿਆ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਭਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਸਿੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਲੋਹੇ ਵਰਗੀ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਬਲ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ। ਕੜਾ ਸੁਚੇਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸਿੱਖ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਹੁਣ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਗੁਰਮਤ ਦੇ ਨਿਯਮ ਪਾਲਣੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਕੋਈ ਕੁਕਰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਨਾ.


4.ਕਿਰਪਾਨ
ਕਿਰਪਾਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੀ ਬਖਸ਼ਸ਼ ਅਤੇ ਹਉਮੇ ਤੇ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਦਾ ਚਿਨ੍ਹ ਹੈ। ਕਿਰਪਾਨ ਸਦਾ ਗਾਤਰੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਰੱਖਣੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਮੰਨ ਕੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਤੇ ਧਾਰਨ ਕਰਨੀ ਹੈ। ਬੁਰਾਈਆਂ ਦੇ ਅਧੀਨ ਭੈੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜੁਲਮ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਦੀ ਅਤੇ ਮਾਨਵਤਾ ਦੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਨਾ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ।

5.ਕਛਹਿਰਾ
ਕਛਹਿਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਹਿਨਣਾ ਜਰੂਰੀ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਇਹ ਬਖਸ਼ੀ ਹੋਈ ਦਾਤ ਸਿੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਵਾਸ਼ਨਾਵਾਂ ਤੇ ਕਾਬੂ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਦਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।

  Ten Sikh Gurus
 
"The Palace of the Lord God is so beautiful. Within it, there are gems, rubies, pearls and flawless diamonds. A fortress of gold surrounds this Source of Nectar. How can I climb up to the Fortress without a ladder? By meditating on the Lord, through the Guru,

I am blessed and exalted. The Guru is the Ladder, the Guru is the Boat, and the Guru is the Raft to take me to the Lord's Name. The Guru is the Boat to carry me across the world-ocean; the Guru is the Sacred Shrine of Pilgrimage, the Guru is the Holy River. If it pleases Him, I bathe in the Pool of Truth, and become radiant and pure." (Guru Nanak, Sri Rag, pg. 17)

The word 'Guru' in Sanskrit means teacher, honoured person, religious person or saint. Sikhism though has a very specific definition of the word 'Guru'. It means the descent of divine guidance to mankind provided through ten Enlightened Masters. This honour of being called a Sikh Guru applies only to the ten Gurus who founded the religion starting with Guru Nanak in 1469 and ending with Guru Gobind Singh in 1708; thereafter it refers to the Sikh Holy Scriptures the Guru Granth Sahib. The divine spirit was passed from one Guru to the next as "The light of a lamp which lights another does not abate. Similarly a spiritual leader and his disciple become equal, Nanak says the truth."

First Guru :Shri Guru Nanak Sahib Ji

Guru Nanak Sahib (the First Nanak, the founder of Sikhism) was born on 15th April, 1469 at Rai-Bhoi-di Talwandi in the present distrect of Shekhupura (Pakistan), now Nanakana Sahib.

Second Guru  : Shri Guru Angad Sahib Ji
Guru Angad Sahib, (Bhai Lahna ji) was born in the village named Harike in Ferozepur district in Punjab, on Vaisakh Vadi 1st , (5th Vaisakh) Samvat 1561, (March 31, 1504).

Third Guru : Shri Guru Amardas Sahib Ji
Guru Amardas Sahib, the Third Nanak was born at village Basarke Gillan in Amritsar district on Vaisakh Sudi 14th, (8th Jeth), Samvat 1536 (5th May 1479).

Fourth Guru : Shri Guru Ramdass Sahib Ji
Guru Ramdas Sahib (Jetha ji) was born at Chuna Mandi, Lahore (in Pakistan), on Kartik Vadi 2nd, (25th Assu) Samvat 1591 (September 24, 1534).

Fifth Guru : Shri Guru Arjan Sahib Ji
Guru Arjan Sahib, the youngest son of Guru Ramdas Sahib and Mata Bhani Ji was born at Goindwal Sahib on Vaisakh Vadi 7th, (19th Vaisakh) Samvat 1620 (April 15,1563).

Sixth Guru : Shri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji
Guru Hargobind Sahib was born at village Guru Ki Wadali (district Amritsar) on Harh Vadi 7th (21 Harh), Samvat 1652 (19th June, 1595).

Seventh Guru : Shri Guru Har Rai Sahib Ji
Guru Hargobind Sahib, before his departure for heavenly abode, nominated his grand son, Har Rai Ji at the tender age of 14, as his successor (Seventh Nanak), on 3rd March, 1644.

Guru Harkrishan Sahib was born on Sawan Vadi 10, (8 Sawan), Bikrami Samvat 1713, (July 7, 1656) at Kiratpur Sahib.

Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib was born on Vaisakh Vadi 5, (5 Vaisakh), Bikrami Samvat 1678, (1st April, 1621) in the holy city of Amritsar in a house known as Guru ke Mahal.

Tenth Guru : Shri Guru Gobind Singh Sahib Ji
The tenth and the last Guru or Prophet-teacher of the Sikh faith, was born Gobind Rai Sodhi on Poh Sudi 7th, 23rd Poh 1723 Bikrami Samvat (22 December 1666) at Patna, in Bihar.

'Takht', literally means a throne or seat of authority is a result of historical growth of Sikhism. There are five Takhats. The Five Takhts are the five gurudwaras and these have a very special significance for the Sikh community. Takht means a throne. They are considered the seats of Sikh religious authority. What Are the Five K's?


1. Kachhera
2. Kanga
3. Kara
4. Kes
5. Kirpan


Sometimes called simply the 5 K's. An Amritdhari, or initiated Sikh is required to wear all of the 5 K's during the Sikh baptism, or initiation ceremony of Amrit, and there after. The articles are to be kept on or with the person at all times.

Because the name of each one of the five articles begins with the letter (or sound of) K, they are commonly called the five K's or kakar(s). The kakar each have a practical function.

1. Kachhera, Undergarment
Kachhera is a loose undergarment worn by Sikhs. Historically, Sikhs are warriors. The kachhera is designed for ease of movement while maintaining modesty, whether sitting cross-legged for worship, or engaging in martial arts allowing for agility in battle or horseback.

Kanga, Wooden Comb
The Kanga is a wooden comb. It comes in a variety of sizes. Some have short fine teeth and others long wide teeth. Sikhs do not cut their hair. In the days before shampoo, Sikhs cleansed their hair using water and oil. The traditional practice of using oil to continues in modern times and helps prevent snarling of the tresses and nourishes the scalp. A large kanga removes tangles easily. A small fine toothed kanga is useful for cleaning and maintaining healthy hair free of dandruff and parasites. Sikhs comb their hair in the morning before tying a turban, and generally at the end of the day, before sleeping.

3. Kara, Bangle
A kara is an iron or steel ring worn on the wrist of the right arm. Traditionally a kara served as a protective wrist guard during battle when fighting with swords. The kara also serves as a visible reminder of the bond between the Sikh and Guru.

Kes, Uncut Hair
Kes means hair and refers to the hair growing from the scalp. For the initiated Sikh kes includes all facial and body hair. Kes is to be kept completely intact. This means that a Sikh never cuts, removes, or alters any hair or the head face or body. Hair grows to a particular length depending on the genetic code of an individual. Sikhs honor this physical process as the intent of the creator. Many Sikhs testify that kes has a spiritual significance during meditation and worship.

Kirpan, Ceremonial Short Sword
A kirpan is a ceremonial short sword worn by an initiated Sikh. It represents the ideal of the Sikh warrior to defend the weak from tyranny, injustice, and forced conversion. Historically the kirpan would have been a weapon used in battle. The significance of the kirpan extends to a personal battle fought with ego and is a reminder to be vigilant against the rise of anger, attachment, greed, lust, and pride. A kirpan is touched to prashad, and to langar, before either are consumed, to bless and symbolically impart the strength steel of steel to worshipers.
