Gurdwara After fire

Further to the tragic fire at our beloved Gurdwara, Gurdwara Sikh Sangat, Bow, East London, we the committee of Gurdwara Sikh Sangat, would like to make the following clarifications.

We would firstly like to request the Sikh community to stay calm and peaceful at this crucial time, and not to make any pre-assumptions until the police have conducted their full investigations and forwarded us their findings. We will in due course give a full press release and statement with the findings of the police and the Gurdwara management.

We request the public not to be miss-led by external statements based on rumour or conjecture regarding this unfortunate incident and to await further official press releases from the committee of Gurdwara Sikh Sangat.

We would finally like to add that the Sri Guru Granth Sahibs which were rescued from the fire scene will have a ceremony at Hainault on Sunday 22nd March 2009. This is an AgniBhet ceremony and not a Saskar as the Sri Guru Granth Sahib is eternal and therefore using such terminology is incorrect.

This is a sensitive and testing time for us at Gurdwara Sikh Sangat and the community at large. We are most thankful to the all the Gurdwaras, the community, the Police, and local authority who have all offered their support.
