Tech Lounge / Quad-core phones on the horizon
« on: January 26, 2012, 07:59:02 PM »

Last November proffered the first peep about the HTC Edge, an Android phone that's expected to have a 4.7-inch 1,280x720-pixel HD display, an 8-megapixel camera, an Nvidia Tegra 3 1.5GHz quad-core processor, and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. (Read more on HTC's alleged plans.)

Also boasting the quad-core Tegra 3 chipset, or so we've heard, is the LG X3. Its specs are similar to those of the HTC Edge, with a 4.7-inch 1,280x720-pixel HD display, an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera, a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera, and Ice Cream Sandwich.

Next in line, there's Samsung's third version of its insanely popular Galaxy S series Android smartphone. Although the Galaxy S II phones only landed in the U.S. just a few months ago, they launched at last year's MWC. It's very likely that we'll see the quad-core successor, the Samsung Galaxy S III, shred its previous records in processing power in this global upgrade.

And let's not forget that hands-off Fujitsu phone from CES.

Although it's no longer expected to launch at MWC, the HTC Zeta is a 2.5GHz quad-core concept phone.
Fujitsu, quad-core, Tegra 3

You have to take Fujitsu's word that this smartphone has an Nvidia quad-core processor, but at CES, it did run Android games like nobody's business.

What quad-core does for you
If you're familiar with dual-core phones, quad-core follows the same principle. Put simply, the handset's central processor (CPU) contains four cores for divvying up tasks, rather than one or two CPUs.

The benefits are many, but distill into two overarching results: dramatically faster performance and better battery life. In other words, each core can work less to accomplish a task; and because tasks are split, each core requires a smaller battery contribution (at a lower voltage) than if fewer cores strained with heavier workloads apiece (requires higher voltage per core).

In a practical setting, quad-core processors promise to support sharp screen resolutions; load apps and render photos and Web pages faster; quickly and smoothly process HD video; and improve the quality of gameplay to bring it much closer to a desktop standard.

Just how much faster are they supposed to be? Nvidia has claimed that its Tegra 3 processor completes tasks up to five times faster than its Tegra 2 dual-core predecessor, and its chip for processing graphics (GPU) grew from 8 cores on the Tegra 2 version to 12 cores in Tegra 3.

Impressive as quintupling the phone's speed is, at least in theory, it's nothing compared with Nvidia's plan for exponential increases with added cores. The following release, code-named Wayne, will promise speeds up to 10 times faster than Tegra 2. Logan, the processor after Wayne, will clock speeds 50 times faster than those dual-core phones we're seeing now. In some senses, Tegra 3 is a small taste of your smartphone future, not just from Nvidia, but from all the chipmakers.

Cars / Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3 Released
« on: January 25, 2012, 06:34:19 PM »
NISSAN MOTORSPORTS INTERNATIONAL CO. LTD. (NISMO) has announced the official release of a Nissan GT-R (R35) that conforms to FIA GT3 regulations: the Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3.

NISMO and JR Motorsports (JRM), its official partner for this major project, have been jointly developing the car during 2011 and, following a series of extensive tests – which have included three competitive outings – the car’s performance and durability has proven its credentials for GT3 racing worldwide.

The Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3 features a 3.8 V6 twin-turbo engine that is based on a standard road car unit, developing 530ps at 6400 rpm. Power is delivered via six-speed transaxle that drives the rear wheels, activated by a semi-automatic paddle-shift system.

Designed with customers in mind, driveability has been an important factor in the new car’s development program. Therefore, as well as featuring a chassis that inspires confidence, suspension set-up and driver controls can easily be adjusted to suit a range of preferences.

The car was displayed at the UK at Autosport International (Europe’s biggest motorsport exhibition) on January 12. The car appeared alongside the GT1 Nissan GT-R that won the 2011 FIA GT1 World Championship.

Sales and customer support for the Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3 will be implemented by NISMO for Japan, Asia, North America, South America, and Oceania, whilst JRM will cover Europe, Russia and the Middle East.

The car is priced at 298,000 Euro (32,000,000 JPY)*. Enquiries should be made to either NISMO or JRM.

News Khabran / Happy Australia Day 2012
« on: January 25, 2012, 06:14:06 PM »
Celebrated annually on 26 January, the date commemorates the arrival of the First Fleet at Sydney Cove in 1788 and the proclamation at that time of British sovereignty over the eastern seaboard of New Holland.

Although it was not known as Australia Day until over a century later, records of celebrations on 26 January date back to 1808, with the first official celebration of the formation of New South Wales held in 1818. It is presently an official public holiday in every state and territory of Australia and is marked by the presentation of the Australian of the Year Awards on Australia Day Eve, announcement of the Honours List for the Order of Australia and addresses from the Governor-General and Prime Minister. With community festivals, concerts and citizenship ceremonies the day is celebrated in large and small communities and cities around the nation. Australia Day has become the biggest annual civic event in Australia

Cars / 2000 Honda Integra Type R (DC2) Build 474 Review : Rahul
« on: January 24, 2012, 06:05:39 AM »
Today , my brother went to pick this car up for one of my friend Jon . We all work together at same workplace and since we know about cars , we did some research and found that car was cheaper compared to what we would pay in the current market.

The Cars details are :
Year: 2000 April
Make: Honda
Model: Integra - Type R
Build Number : 0474
Engine: 1797CC  B18C
Drive Type : Front wheel Drive
Tranmission: 5 Speed Manual
Wheels: 16" Enkei Wheels (Factory Fitted)
Seats : Recaro bucket seats

Review:

It was my first time driving the Honda Type R badged car. I wasn't expecting too much when I already have a car thats modded heavily.

Ride Quality :

In terms of Ride quality , this car has all those bit and pieces of equipments that you expect from a  sports car . When I talk equipments I mean to point out the stiff suspension which isn't too bad since its not that lowered. Ride is bit bumpy but gets smooth on the straight road. However when you turn this car at higher speed you feel the back pushing out and due to not much cusion in the seats you feel your getting squashed.

Performance:

Type R cars are built for sports. You might be thinking that a naturally aspirated engine and its sports ? Is that guy getting the figures right?
Well yeah in the start I have no clue when people told me that Type R cars are fast naturally aspirated till I drove one.
The car can Rev upto 8000 RPM with no problems at all. I drove the car 1st gear 8000 RPM , 2nd gear 8000 RPM , 3rd Gear 8000 RPM and the car just don't lose it. The sound of the engine I must say is like a musical instrument , you just want to keep it humming.

Overall:

For 2000 Model (12 years old ) car you wouldn't expect it to have all the needed techie and geek stuff in the car. The cars comes with dual airbags to start with , it got a strut bar in the engine bay and the ABS control to make sure you stop on time.

Small gear stick is just brilliant, the gear change on the car is absolutely amazing.

Things I didn't like were the heavy steering wheel on the  DC2 trim which I suppose is due to the front wheel drive layout.

Ride sometimes appears to be too bumpy and feels heavy at times.

Other than that its a Fun to drive car.

Here are some pictures.
