There are a lot of things to get confused about when buying a new TV, but few topics have bewildered consumers as much as the use of LED technology. If I had my say, the phrase LED TV would be banned from future discussions because consumer-grade LED sets are simply a different type of LCD TV. Baffled? Don’t be.
Every LCD TV requires a source to illuminate its pixels, and in so called LED TVs, that source is a series of LEDs. In other LCD sets, the source is usually a series of fluorescent tubes.
Manufacturers make a big deal out of LED backlighting because LCD sets using the technology are generally more energy efficient. There are other benefits as well, but to understand them we must take a closer look at the implementation of LED backlighting. Currently, LED-backlit LCD TVs use one of two systems.
Edge-lit: LEDs are placed along the edges of the LCD panel
Full array: Rows of LEDs are placed behind the entirety of the LCD panel
Which is Better? Edge-lit or Full Array?
Each system has advantages and disadvantages, and the one that’s right for you depends on your needs and desires. Edge-lit sets are typically much thinner and lighter than those that use a full array because the lighting source takes up less space. Full-array sets are thicker and heavier, but they make up for that with local dimming, which means one section of the LED panel can be dimmed while other sections remain bright. That improves blacks and contrast in the resulting picture.
In short, sets that use full-array backlighting tend to produce the best picture of all LCD TVs. Those that use edge lighting sacrifice picture quality but are the lightest and thinnest TVs on the market.
Is LED Worth It?
Before you run out and buy an LCD TV with LED backlighting, you should consider one important factor – price. LED-backlit TVs are great, but they’re still more expensive than their fluorescent-lit peers. If picture quality is extremely important to you, I suggest spending a little more money to enjoy the benefits of full-array LED backlighting. If you’re willing to pay a premium to have the thinnest TV on the block, edge-lit is the way to go. If, on the other hand, you’re a bargain shopper, you will probably be able to satisfy yourself – and your wallet – with a well-made fluorescent-lit set.

The Ford F-150 SVT Raptor is 7 inches wider than a base F-150 to make room for the additional suspension components that give Raptor its unparalleled off-road abilities. The wider stance also gives the truck an aggressive appearance. Internal triple-bypass shocks by FOX Racing Shox - the first on a production truck - provide position-sensitive damping and extra suspension travel for extreme off-roading and a smooth ride on the road.
Revved up and ready
The previously optional 6.2-liter V8 engine, which produces 411 horsepower and 434 lb.-ft. of torque, will now be the standard engine for the 2011 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor, the most powerful half-ton pickup on the market.
The Ford powertrain team performed extensive testing to ensure the engine would live up to the Built Ford Tough promise. Hundreds of additional tests beyond the normal verification of truck engines, as well as vehicle testing on a 62-mile durability loop in the desert that simulates the Baja 1000, validated the performance of the engine for reliability and longevity in the harshest conditions.

The Mazda Shinari is a pure design concept model of a four-door, four-seater sports coupe which perfectly expresses the 'KODO - Soul of Motion' design theme in a graceful and carefree form.
The Japanese word Shinari describes the powerful yet supple appearance of great resilient force when objects of high tensile strength, such as steel or bamboo, are twisted or bent. It also refers to the appearance of a person or animal as it flexibly transforms its body to generate a fast movement. Within this movement, Mazda designers discovered the potential to realize 'KODO - Soul of Motion'.
One glance at Mazda Shinari Concept stirs the emotions. Its form expresses the powerful movement of a lean body with highly developed muscles, supple but at the same time filled with tension. Mazda's desire is to reach car lovers' hearts and go beyond the notion of rational logic. This form purely embodies that desire.

"The XJ is thoroughly modern, and captures the innovative and daring character that our founder Sir William Lyons built into every Jaguar. And the design team clearly had some fun making their first one-of-a-kind XJ design concept in that spirit."
Dominated by a striking white and black contrast theme that suggests precious platinum metal, the Jaguar XJ75 Platinum Concept is a high-performance 470-hp 2011 Jaguar XJL Supercharged equipped with new ground-hugging front, rear and side sills. Painted a lustrous Satin Matte Pearlescent White, exterior chrome elements have been revised to either a dark chrome or gloss black. Bespoke 22-inch wheels are black and use a brushed contrast finish.
Performance on the Jaguar XJ75 Platinum Concept is derived from its 5.0-litre Supercharged direct-injection V8 with 470 horsepower and 424 lb.-ft of torque. Entertainment is provided by a 1,200-watt Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system with 20 speakers powered through 15 channels and state-of-the-art sound processing technology.

At 4.46 meters, the Opel GTC Paris Concept is the ideal size for a compact, sporty car, but it still offers room for five passengers. Most iconic cars have been drawn from the side. Many can be sketched with two or three sharp lines. So, too, with Opel's new concept car: In profile, the designers have maximized tension by limiting the amount of lines in the GTC Paris. Similar to tendons in a sprinter, these lines create tension and provide a sculpted shape. They serve as the foundation to which the highlights and surfacing react and press to the wheels in a very athletic fashion.

The best of Opel's compact car technology is brought to its sportiest level on the Opel GTC Paris Concept. The chassis has a special design with an extra-wide stance.
