So I landed at JFK last night and took a taxi to my hotel.  The driver (to my surprise) was not Indian or Middle Eastern...He was White. mere kol sirf 2 bags si, 1 mera purse si and 1 mera duffle bag si..and both were Michael Kors...this idiot starts driving and starts asking me questions like where i'm from and what i'll be doing in NY.  I was like I'm going to my home country in a couple weeks and I just wanna do some shopping so I figured I should come to NY for my fav. brands...
His exact words to me : "yeah you f***in Muslims are rich as f*** walking around with your michael kors bags and showing off that you got too much f***in money and I work all day and my GF don't even have a $50 bag and you guys come blowing up our country with every f***in nerve you guys have, if I could I would go to your country and do the same thing"
I was really upset at this point that I wanted to chop this guys balls off and hand em' to him, but that didn't happen. My reply to him was " yea you know there are plenty of ignorant people I meet that think everyone who has brown skin is from middle east and is planning to blow up something.  And you know, people like me who do come into America, we don't like to live from paycheck to paycheck, we like to work hard and save and not waste our money on drugs and alcahol like most "true American's" do, we like to buy expensive bags, and cars and houses and live the life of luxries because we've worked hard for it."
At this point I was pretty sure I was getting killed in a dark ally or something, but I didn't lol...We pull up to my hotel and once again this idiot starts " there you go with your f***in money again living in big hotels, I can't even fuckin afford to look at this place"
I just kept my mouth shut and was thinking to my self and dying laughing inside " :laugh: it's the f***in Sheraton, it's not $2000  :laugh: but I guess some people are just too stupid to respect others.

I really felt insulted here because througout our conversation I repeated that I am not a Muslim, I am a Sikh, and I even took the time in that 45 min drive to explain to him what a Sikh is.  But this moron was just too full of his own crap...I felt like I wanted to do something, but couldn't...Why? I have no clue.  Maybe I was afraid of getting killed by a nasty dumster. IDK...

You guys ever have stupid experiences like this??

We did something like this 2 years ago in cooperation with the city and the gurdwara sangat. Had my team perform bhangra, had an NYC gatka team perform Sikh martial arts, some speeches and gurbani kirtan to kick off the event. I still meet American people in the city who remember that event. It was probably their only introduction to Punjabi/Sikh people that live here. Initially it was just going to be gurdwara people, but then we contacted the local TV station and they helped get us open space in a park.

Tips would be:
- Plan way ahead.
- Keep pushing our own community, get as many of our people involved as you can.
- Get a local bhangra team to help (if needed)
- Get the city hall involved (they love the idea of langar).

Thanks Grenade Singh ji, I called Uncle ji this morning and asked if I could meet with him and a few other members of the Gurudwara sahib, and he was very nice and I'll be talking to them after Langar on Sunday. So hopefully all will be well :)

Nawty ji, school vich sirf granthi ji hunde aa teh bache hunde aa, and not everyone listens to kids and granthi ji. So I feel that ki je main person nu approach kita jaave tah vadiya hona.  Grenade Singh ji good idea ditta so dekh de aa ki ban da. I'll update you guys on the progress on Sunday.
