News Khabran / A Daughter writes her Dad's Story - Bant Singh

Bant Still Sings....

"My father had to pay a heavy price to get me justice"

I, Baljit Kaur, daughter of Sri Bant Singh, am a resident of village Burj Jhabbar in Mansa District, Punjab. I was gang-raped on 6 July 2002. I did not conceal the incident and along with my father waged a struggle for justice. My father, Bant Singh Jhabbar, could file an FIR only after a month despite pressure and various enticements from the village Panchayat which led to convictions of the assaulters Mandhir Singh, Dr.Tarsem and Gurmail Kaur. All the three were sentenced to life imprisonment.

Since my father had gone against the wishes of the Panchayat in getting justice, therefore the Sarpanch Jaswant Singh and his elder brother, who is an ex-sarpanch, and both of whom are local leaders of the Congress party. became sworn enemies of my father and started threatening him regularly.

My father got me married to Resham Singh one and half month before the rapists were convicted. My father earned a livelihood by raising pigs. He has seven children of whom my four brothers are just infants. My father keeps himself in high self-esteem. He has been very active in the work of Mazdoor Mukti Morcha and CPI(ML) Liberation. As part of his activism he also got the license for a ration depot of one Amrik Singh cancelled for not distributing ration in the village.

My father was first attacked in August 2005 and the attackers were charged under Sec. 23-24 of the Indian Penal Code. He was attacked a second time in December 2005 and this time the guilty were booked under Sec.107 and 151. In both these cases the Sarpanch Jaswant got the bail for all the attackers and openly stated at the Joga police station itself that “even if you had injured him more seriously, I would still get you out on bail”. These same attackers dealt a deadly attack on my father on 5 January 2006 and the attack was conspired by the present and ex-Sarpanch and officials of the Joga police station. Two sons each of Jaswant Singh and Amrik Singh Vicky and Babli, Appi and Sandeep respectively (who are also relatives of the rapist Mandhir), Honey, S/o Inderjit Singh, and Gurditta and Didar were the main attackers.

My father had to pay a heavy price to get me justice. Both his arms and one leg have been amputated and the criminals are roaming freely. Initially the attackers were given bail from the thana itself due to implicating them under simple charge of 325. It was only after people took to the streets, parties and organisations got involved and news papers carried stories, that fresh charges of 307, 308 and SC-ST Act were levelled against them and they were arrested. Except the Government and the Administration now everyone is with us. I'm ready to fight till we have got justice but will my father get his limbs back?

I demand that both the Sarpanch belonging to the Congress party be booked under Sec.120B and immediately arrested, the SHO of the Joga police station be suspended immediately and case filed against him for hobnobbing with the criminals, a life-long attendant be provided to my father along with a compensation of Rupees Ten lakhs provision be made for looking after my brothers and sisters and one of us be given a permanent job.
The District Commissioner of Mansa has attempted to do away with the issues involved by getting himself photographed by the press while giving a cheque of just Rs. One lakh and some rations to my family. Is this sufficient for treatment of my father and to raise my siblings? The Amarinder Government in Punjab as well as the Administration is shielding the criminals. But my people, my Party and I will continue the struggle until my father and I get justice.

My father is currently admitted at PGI, Chandigarh, where the doctors are trying to save his other badly injured leg. If our demands are not fulfilled then I will be rather compelled to return this cheque of Rs.One lakh.

News Khabran / Indian woman delivers, abandons baby in 'Plane toilet'
« on: July 10, 2010, 05:22:07 PM »
New Delhi, India (CNN) -- An unmarried Indian woman delivered a baby in the toilet of an international flight and abandoned the infant in the plane's washroom, police and doctors said Thursday.

Cabin crew of the Turkmenistan Airlines rushed the newborn to a hospital as the plane arrived in the northern Indian city of Amritsar on Wednesday, said Varinder Kumar, city police commissioner.

The toilet was taken to the hospital with the baby, and surgeons had to cut it away to get the newborn out, said H.P. Singh, a doctor at Amritsar's Fortis Escorts hospital.

The baby's condition was critical, Singh said, and it might take at least two to three days to recover. The mother admitted to the same hospital was, however, stable, he said.

"She was unmarried. It looks like she wanted to get rid of the baby," Singh said.

Police confirmed she was single and plan to question her once she was declared medically fit.

Abandoning newborns is an offense punishable up to seven years in jail, Kumar said.

"We will see what action can be taken (against her) after the interrogation," he said.

The mother, believed to be age 25, belongs to Punjab's Hoshiarpur district, according to police. Her flight had originated from Ashgabat in Turkmenistan, Kumar said.

In largely-conservative India, pre-marital sex remains a taboo.

Last year, India's federal woman rights watchdog ordered an investigation into reports young would-be-brides were subject to "virginity tests" for a mass wedding.

The alleged tests in June last year happened in Madhya Pradesh state controlled by conservative Hindu nationalists who are members of the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party.

But a district magistrate said they were simply "clinical examinations" initiated after one of the brides gave birth at a previous similar event.

Earlier this year, India's top court ruled live-in relationships between adult couples are not a crime.

The supreme court also quashed more than 20 cases against a south Indian actress for her comments on pre-marital sex in 2005, which had sparked angry protests.

Actress Khushboo, who uses one name, said her remarks aimed to highlight precautions that partners should take in order to prevent AIDS.

More than half of India's billion-plus population is below age 25, officials say.

With rapid modernization and a growing economy, the country's young work force has grown over the past few years.

But marriages remain a venerated custom in India.

News Khabran / Next Canadian Governor General David Johnston
« on: July 09, 2010, 07:34:06 PM »
I am Posting this - Cause it make me so Proud, as I see this Guy everyday walking around the campus and he is the only guy in the suit in the entire campus!!

University of Waterloo celebrates appointment of President David Johnston as the next Governor General of Canada

WATERLOO, Ont. (July 8, 2010) – The University of Waterloo and its alumni around the world proudly learned today of the appointment of current president, David Johnston, as the next Governor General of Canada, effective October 1, 2010.

President Johnston shared some of his feelings with the campus and broader community, commenting:

“My wife Sharon and I are honoured to be asked to serve Canada in this way and will miss the Waterloo family enormously, but we will not be far away,” he said.

“I am a teacher as are my only brother and my sister. All five of our daughters are public servants. All the important things in life I've learned from my children. This is just one more lesson.”

While he is excited about the new opportunity in his life, he said there is still “much to do at uWaterloo between now and Oct 1. I want to devote an enormous effort to bring Campaign Waterloo home in splendid fashion.”

Bob Harding, chair of the university’s board of governors, expressed the university’s gratitude to the Governor General-Designate.

"David Johnston exemplifies the highest qualities of leadership and commitment to public service we have in Canada. The University of Waterloo is fortunate to have had him as its president for the past 11 years, a time when Waterloo has grown in innovation, accomplishment and profile in Canada and around the world,” Harding said.

“While we are losing a great president, Canada gains a splendid individual and a community leader who will represent all Canadians with great distinction as our next GG. We, his Waterloo family, are so grateful for his leadership and we are proud of him.”

Mike Lazardis, co-CEO and founder of RIM (Research In Motion), and Waterloo’s Chancellor Emeritus, said Johnston “has led the University of Waterloo during the most prolific growth period in its history. He has worked tirelessly to position the University of Waterloo as a world-class institution of math, science, engineering, health and the arts.

“David’s strong understanding of law and the Canadian Constitution, combined with his great communication skills, charm and real ability to achieve consensus amongst stakeholders, will serve him well in the role of Governor General. David’s appreciation of the importance of higher education, scientific research and private-public partnerships also distinctly qualifies him for the role."

Waterloo’s current chancellor, Prem Watsa, said that “ as Chancellor of the University of Waterloo for the past two years, I have observed David Johnston’s great integrity, wisdom and humility and good sense of humour at close quarters. David has done an outstanding job at the University of Waterloo over the past decade and he will be missed.

“He is a great Canadian and a wonderful human being, and he will be a superb representative of Canada. Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the committee have made an outstanding choice by appointing David Johnston as Governor General.”

Feridun Hamdullahpur, who as provost and vice-president academic for Waterloo is second-in-command to Johnston at the university, expressed delight at the appointment. “David has served the University of Waterloo with great distinction in so very many ways with great vision, energy and leadership, and now will do the same for Canada. I have immensely enjoyed working with him and learned a great deal from him in my first year at Waterloo. I could not have asked for a greater mentor, teacher and a friend. We will miss him dearly and wish him and Sharon well.”

During his 11-year tenure at the University of Waterloo, David Johnston oversaw unprecedented growth in the university’s reputation, research capacity and leadership capabilities.

Of his many accomplishments, he will be especially remembered for:

Putting the University of Waterloo, and the surrounding region, on the national map as a centre for talent, ideas, and innovation.

· He led Campaign Waterloo, which raised in excess of $500 million to support the university’s scholarship, students, and key building projects.

· The Institute for Quantum Computing, founded in 2002, has become a leading centre for development of ideas that may lead to a revolution in how we store and transmit information, among many other things. The institute moves into the $160-million Mike and Ophelia Lazaridis Quantum Nano Centre in 2011, one of five current major building projects underway on the uWaterloo campus.

· Leading research groups have formed and grown under President Johnston’s tenure, including the Water Institute, the Waterloo Institute for Sustainable Energy, the Propel Centre for Population Health Impact, the Waterloo Centre for Automotive Research (WATCar), and the Interdisciplinary Centre on Climate Change. Research funding for the university has nearly tripled in this decade from $61 million in 1999 to $170 million in 2009.

· He has encouraged talent and ideas through VeloCity, the university’s unique “dormcubator” residence for student entrepreneurs, and the Accelerator Centre, which provides a fertile environment for start-up high-tech firms developing new products and services.

Demonstrating the value and impact of collaboration among academics, government, philanthropists and business to boost community building and economic development.

· 2001 saw the launch of Waterloo’s Research and Technology Park, a 100-acre development on the university’s north campus supported by the City of Waterloo, the Region of Waterloo, and the provincial and federal governments.

· The university’s School of Architecture opened in a renovated silk mill in downtown Cambridge in 2004, a partnership of the university, local business leaders, the City of Cambridge, the Region of Waterloo, philanthropists, and the provincial government.

· Waterloo’s health sciences campus, anchored by Canada’s only co- op School of Pharmacy that opened in 2009, was made possible through the investment and vision of the City of Kitchener, the Region of Waterloo, the provincial and federal governments, and the university.

· Ground will break this fall for a new Stratford Campus focused on digital media, a joint project of the City of Stratford, corporate partners including Open Text, the university and the provincial and federal governments.

Inspiring the community through his vision of a “Knowledge Capital” that has raised the sights of Waterloo to aspire to world leadership.

· In 2007, the City of Waterloo was recognized as the world’s Top Intelligent Community by the Intelligent Communities Forum.

· President Johnston’s vision includes a community where universities are innovative leaders, healthy living standards rise, investments in research and development transform, smart infrastructure is developed, and social innovation is championed.

Championing experiential education and the university’s co- operative education program, the largest of its kind in the world, which nurtures Waterloo’s students’ ideas and teaches them how their ideas are their most valuable offering in Canada’s knowledge economy.

· The William M. Tatham Centre for co-operative education and career services opened on the Waterloo campus in 2002, a building dedicated solely to supporting and growing the university’s co-op program.

· Half of Waterloo’s undergraduate students are part of the co-op program, with 13,000 students matched with 3,000 employers world-wide.

A presidential search was launched earlier this year to replace President Johnston, who had been scheduled to retire from Waterloo in June 2011.

In the interim, before his successor is chosen, the university’s Policy 50 will be applied, which gives responsibility to the Board of Governors, in consultation with the vice-president, academic and provost and other senior university officers, to appoint an interim president to serve until the nominating committee has finished its work.

June 16, 2010 (2 Harh) marks the day of Martyrdom of Guru Arjan Dev ji

About Guru Arjan Dev ji: (Souced from Wiki)
Guru Arjan Dev Ji or Guru Arjun Dev Ji (Punjabi: ਗੁਰੂ ਅਰਜੁਨ ਦੇਵ) (born in Amritsar, Punjab, India on 15 April 1563 – 30 May 1606 Lahore, Punjab, (now in Pakistan) was the fifth of the Ten Gurus of Sikhism and became a Guru on 1 September 1581 following in the footsteps of Guru Ram Das. He was born at Goindval, and was the youngest of the sons of Guru Ram Das and Bibi Bhani, the daughter of Guru Amar Das[1]. Before his death, he nominated his son Har Gobind as the next Guru of the sikhs

Guru Arjan was head of Sikhism for a quarter of a century and accomplished a lot during his regime. He completed the construction of Amritsar and founded other cities such as Taran Taran and Kartarpur. He constructed a Baoli at Lahore. The most important work of Arjan Dev was the compilation of Adi Granth. He collected all the work of the first four Gurus and dictated it in the form of verses in 1604. It is, perhaps, the only book of a scriptural nature which still exists in the form first published (a hand-written manuscript) by the Guru. It and the Guru Granth Sahib which includes the writing of the later Gurus have managed to avoid the embellishments, additions and alterations that have plagued the original writing of other more ancient religious texts.[2]

Guru Arjan organised the Masand system, a group of representatives who taught and spread the teachings of the Gurus and also collected the Dasvand, one-tenth of a Sikh's income (in money, goods or service) that Sikhs paid to support the building of Gurdwaras, the all important Guru ka Langars (free communal kitchens) originally intended to share with sense of love, respect and equality, still an important element today in any Gurdwara. The Langars were open to any visitors and were designed from the start to stress the idea of equality and a casteless society. The land that Amritsar is built upon is believed to be a jagir (estates gifted to individuals under the Mughal system which included one or more villages and often a portion of the crops produced on the land) given as a gift by the Emperor Akbar, who was impressed by the practice, after sharing a meal in the Guru's communal kitchen, seated on the floor among commoners.

Life

Guru Arjan Dev ji clearly understood the wide import of the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev ji and perceived how applicable they were to every state of life and to every condition of society.[3] He made Amritsar the proper seat of his followers and a centre which would attract the worldly longings for a material bond of union. The city became populous and a great place of pilgrimage of the Sikh people.

Composing the Adi Granth, he gave to his followers a fixed rule of religious and moral conduct. His starting of collection of offerings by way of Masand system, in a systematic way, accustomed them to a regular government. He traded in horses, though not extensively, and encouraged his followers to follow his example, to be as zealous in trade as they were in their faith[3]. Guru Arjan Dev ji became famous among his pious devotees and his biographers dwell on the number of Saints and Holy men who were edified by his instructions[3]. He was equally headed by men in high positions. During his time, the teaching and philosophy of Nanak took a firm hold on the minds of his followers.

The economic well-being of the country is closely linked with the monsoon. With a view to alleviating the sufferings of the peasents, Guru Arjan Dev ji helped the villagers in digging six-channel Persian wheel (Chhehrta) wells, which irrigated their fields. Chheharta is a living monument of his efforts in this direction. Guru Arjan was caring and loving, he was also willing to give to the poor.

Compositions

Beside compiling the works of the previous Gurus and other works by both Hindu and Muslim Sants, religious reformers in their own right, Guru Arjan composed many hymns of his own which he included in the Adi Granth as well. He appointed Baba Budha Ji, who was a companion of Guru Nanak, and an associate of each of the subsequent Guru as the chief priest of the Golden Temple. He placed the Adi Granth on the Gaddi (throne) reserved for him, preferring to sit among his disciples.

Translated below is the Sukhmani, one the most recited banis (sacred hymns) revered by the by Sikhs. It was composed by Guru Arjan.

Meditate, meditate, meditate peace is obtained, Worry and anguish is expelled from the body.
Remembering God, you’re not reborn. Remembering God, the fear of death is dispelled.
Remembering God, death is eliminated. Remembering God, your enemies are repelled.
Remembering God, no obstacles are met. Remembering God, night and day you’re fully awake.
Remembering God, fear cannot touch you. Remembering God, you don’t suffer with sorrow.
Remembrance of God, in the Company of Saints. All treasures, O Nanak, are by Lord’s Blessing. ||2||

                                                                                             Guru Granth Sahib page 262)

Martyrdom of Shri Guru Arjan Dev Ji

Relations between Akbar and Guru Arjan Dev ji were cordial but things changed after the accession of Jahangir. Ultimately the Guru was tortured in 1606.[4] Sikhs believe that, having obtained leave to bathe in the Ravi river, he vanished, to the fear and wonder of those guarding him.[5]

Many reasons have been given for this tragedy. It is stated that Jahangir was annoyed because Guru Arjan Dev ji gave his blessings to his rebel son, Prince Khusrau Mirza.

There are also some Mughal accounts which state that Guru Arjan Dev ji blessed the rebel son of emperor Jahangir which prompted the emperor to take action against him.[6] But the memoirs of Jahangir make it clear that he in fact was looking for an excuse to, in his own words to bring him into the assembly of the people of Islam.

It is also stated in some sources that one of the courtiers of Jahangir who had first laughed at the suggested marriage between his daughter and the Gurus son, which was later rebuffed, could not put up with the insult and poisoned the ears of the Emperor. Consequently Jahangir imposed a fine of Rupees two Lac (two hundred thousand) on Guru Arjan Dev ji and also ordered him to remove certain passages from the Adi Granth, which were objectionable to Muslims. On the Guru's refusal to do so, he was tortured[7].

The manner in which Guru Arjan Dev ji was martyred "convinced the sikhs that they must arm themselves and fight, if they wanted to live"[8]. It proved a turning point in the history of Sikhism.

Gup Shup / Question - Optium Age of Getting Married and Kids
« on: June 07, 2010, 08:15:42 AM »
Background:
I got a friend .. He is from Muslim Culture so as a part of the culture he got married soon - That is fine part of culture. Actually he was 20 when he married a girl who was 19. I am fine with that - No big deal, part of the culture and parents agree so they married.

Now the next thing, last week the couple had a baby ... Baby is a beautiful baby girl, I seen some of her picture and she is adorable.

Now I congrats them but I had something stuck in my mind - The guy is 21 (in his 3rd year) and the girl is 20 (in second year) and they got an extra stomach to feed. - Now do they ask the money for the Kid Needs (food, milk etc) from their parents cause both exclusively studing. And how do they ask it - Like daddy I need money for Kids Diapers (what the hell - A bit messed up NO?)
Isn't you should be responsible enough before you think of marriage or a Kid?

Now Question:
Everyone is falling in love on PJ... But Love means commitment (which is Marriage - RIGHT?)... So to the lovers, At what age you think you gonna get married / When you gonna get a kid.

As a reply, I don't want to see someone talking about how to make babies or talking BS about Muslim culture (spreading hatred). <- Just Stick to the topic and Be a adult here.

El Nicho is located in Grupo Guamuhaya part of Sierra de Trinidad mountainous is the second highest point in Cuba Pico San Juan 1108 m about 46 km from Cienfuegos. At mountains of the El Nicho you can hike through the caves, water fall bathing and track the mountain’s exotic flora and fauna. Those interested in another kind of wildlife can go bird-watching in a protected sanctuary. The Tocororo lives in this mountain region, Cuban national bird, with beautiful, showy colors.

2 ) Giessbach Waterfalls- Switzerland

The Giessbach Falls lie in the midst of a landscape filled with Swiss postcard clichés — crystal-clear lakes, snow-capped peaks, cable cars, and cuckoo clocks (well, there’s bound to be at least one cuckoo clock in one of the local farmhouses). The name of the locale might ring a bell as it was in the news in the summer of 1999, when some canyoning tourists were killed in a flash flood. The tragedy hasn’t affected tourism in the region, and people continue to flock to Giessbach to indulge in river rafting and paragliding, or to simply soak up the Swiss atmosphere.

3 ) Havasu Falls – United States

The Havasu falls, or more commonly the Havasupai, are a Native American tribe that has called the Grand Canyon its home for at least the past 800 years. Located primarily in an area known as Cataract Canyon, this Yuman speaking population once laid claim to a land reservation the size of Delaware [1]. In 1882, however, the tribe was forced by the federal government to abandon all but 518 acres of their land. The Havasupai witnessed a silver rush and the Santa Fe Railroad in effect destroy what was fertile land.

4 ) Horseshoe Falls, Niagra Falls – New York & Canada

The Horseshoe Falls, also known as the Canadian Falls, is a waterfall on the Niagara River, located mostly on the Canadian side of the border with the United States. It is located between Terrapin Point on Goat Island in New York State, and Table Rock on the Ontario side of the falls. The Horseshoe Falls is considered to be the most impressive of the three falls that make up Niagara Falls. Approximately 90% of the water of the Niagara River flows over Horseshoe Falls, while the other 10% flows over the American Falls. The falls produce a large amount of mist, which occasionally renders viewing them difficult.

5 ) Iguazu Falls – Brazil

Iguazu Falls is comprised of not one, but an array of 275 separate cascades and waterfalls, spanning a total of 2.5 miles and plunging up to 269 feet into the Iguazu river. Surrounded by bamboo, palm and fern trees, populated by parrots and macaws, and decorated with the ruins of an 18th century Jesuit mission, Iguazu Falls seems suspended from time, making it an ideal location for the filming of the 1986 period movie, The Mission. Taller than Niagara Falls, twice as wide with 275 cascades spread in a horsehoe shape over nearly two miles of the Iguazu River, Iguazú Falls are the result of a volcanic eruption which left yet another large crack in the earth.

6 ) Minas Viejas Waterfalls – Mexico

One of the most beautiful runs here in the Huasteca. The locals said there was a bit of an earthquake and it opened a fissure in the canyon. The river drops 1/3rd its water after the drain. With rain it will be full for another couple weeks.

7 ) Ouzoud falls – North Africa

The world famous Ouzoud Waterfalls (110 m high) are located in the Grand Atlas village of Tanaghmeilt (Province of Azilal, 150 Km north-east of Marrakech). These are definitely one of the prettiest falls in Morocco and in Northern Africa as a whole. They’re truly stunning at any time of the year, especially during heavy rain. The falls are the most visited site in this region. The surrounding landscape is made up of idyllic green valleys, mills, orchards and the dramatic gorges of the ‘El Abid’ river or ‘Slaves river’ in Arabic. You can even go swimming here, at the bottom of the falls. Access is through a shaded path of olive trees. As the sun begins to fade, you can see whole troops of monkeys playing in the twilight – very surreal.

9 ) Svartifoss – Europe

Svartifoss is a 20m waterfall made famous by the surrounding hanging hexagonal basalt columns. Meaning “black falls”, it’s perhaps the most popular attraction in Skaftafell National Park in Southern Iceland. There’s hardly any time at the falls to have to yourself as people generally come in waves of tour buses. The base of this waterfall is noteworthy for its sharp rocks. New hexagonal column sections break off faster than the falling water wears down the edges.

Bonus: Horsetail Fall

Horsetail Fall, located in Yosemite National Park in California, is a seasonal waterfall that flows in the winter and early spring. The fall occurs on the East side of El Capitan.[1] There are a few days every February where this fall is lit up by the setting sun and reflects a bright orange.

This waterfall descends in two streams side by side, the eastern one being the larger, but both quite small. The eastern one drops 470 m (1,540 ft) and the western one 480 m (1,570 ft), the highest fully-airborne waterfall in Yosemite that runs at some point every year. The waters then gather and descend another 150 m (490 ft) on steep slabs, so the total height of these waterfalls is 650 m (2,130 ft). The image shown here is taken during a brief time during the winter, near 21 February at sunset, made famous by Galen Rowell's photograph.

The fall is best seen and photographed from a small clearing close to the picnic area on the north road leading out of Yosemite Valley east of El Capitan. [2]

Pics / Realist Sculptor by Ron Muech
« on: May 29, 2010, 11:19:00 AM »

Ron Mueck was born on 1958 is an Australian hyper realist sculptor working in Great Britain. Mueck’s early career was as a model maker and puppeteer for children’s television and films, notably the film Labyrinth for which he also contributed the voice of Ludo.

Mueck moved on to establish his own company in London, making photo-realistic props and animatronics for the advertising industry. Although highly detailed, these props were usually designed to be photographed from one specific angle hiding the mess of construction seen from the other side. Mueck increasingly wanted to produce realistic sculptures which looked perfect from all angles.

In 1996 Mueck transitioned to fine art, collaborating with his mother-in-law, Paula Rego, to produce small figures as part of a tableau she was showing at the Hayward Gallery. Rego introduced him to Charles Saatchi who was immediately impressed and started to collect and commission work.

This led to the piece which made Mueck’s name, Dead Dad, being included in the Sensation show at the Royal Academy the following year. Dead Dad is a rather haunting silicone and mixed media sculpture of the corpse of Mueck’s father reduced to about two thirds of its natural scale. It is the only work of Mueck’s that uses his own hair for the finished product.

Mueck’s sculptures faithfully reproduce the minute detail of the human body, but play with scale to produce disconcertingly jarring visual images. His five metre high sculpture Boy 1999 was a feature in the Millennium Dome and later exhibited in the Venice Biennale.

In 2002 his sculpture Pregnant Woman was purchased by the National Gallery of Australia for $800,000.

Pics / Amazing Large Scale Drawing by Denevan
« on: May 29, 2010, 01:05:08 AM »
Have you already heard of Jim Denevan or seen his artwork? This guy, who is an artist and a surfer, creates large scale drawings in sand that are nothing short of amazing. The drawings are mostly created by dragging a stick on the ground. By using only this single stick of wood wet, Jim Denevan makes huge geometric shapes in the sand, which for some may take up to seven hours of work! Generally composed of circles and lines, it is a real mammoth task and patience.
