1. Casa Son Vida - Mallorca, Spain

This may not be your idea of a home but it is bold and fun, and it has certainly attracted wide media attention. The 8,500 square-foot Casa Son Vida is a cooperation between three powerhouses: Luxury residential developer Cosmopolitan Estates, eclectic Dutch designer and founder of Mooi, Marcel Wanders, and award-winning Los Angeles, Switzerland and Hong Kong-based tecARCHITECTURE

Casa Son Vida is located in the Balearic Islands off Spain, on the Island of Mallorca, where humans have lived since 6000–4000 BC and where more recently, tourists have over-crowded every beach. But Casa Son Vida avoids the touristy kitsch and aims much higher. It is in the exclusive Son Vida community, just 15 minutes from the capital of Palma.

Casa Son Vida is in fact a reno of a 1960s Mediterranean villa, but it has been turned into an fantastic, sprawling luxury residence, designed to attract the young, discerning and bold, who are confident and design-savvy enough to know what they are looking at.

The handiwork of Marcel Wanders is evident everywhere in the Casa that looks a bit like an unruly movie set with its dino-bone exterior staircase, and various bits and pieces that remind you of Tomorrowland, Mickey Mouse, Finding Nemo and, of course, Alice in Wonderland.

With its retro synthetic vibe, the house clashes happily with its lush surroundings, but the interior, in its white-dominant serenity is much less startling, although fun and unexpected detail is found in every space. There is absolutely nothing ordinary in this house. Everything is customized, every aspect considered a million times. It is a great example or considered chaos.

This is the first of six villas planned for the Platinum Estates development by the just less than a year-old Cosmopolitan Estates. The eclectic plans for the remaining villas reveal a series of large residences, radically different from each other. Casa Son Vida is currently not for sale but the other five are. Dream on. Knowledge / Mind-Blowing Technology - Software to read Conscious :-O
« on: August 20, 2010, 04:57:28 PM »
Damn I was Blow away by this technology... This is unreal!!!!  :surp: :surp:

Speaker:
Tan Le is the co-founder and president of Emotiv Systems, a firm that's working on a new form of remote control that uses brainwaves to control digital devices and digital media. It's long been a dream to bypass the mechanical (mouse, keyboard, clicker) and have our digital devices respond directly to what we think. Emotiv's recently released EPOC headset uses 16 sensors to listen to activity across the entire brain. Software "learns" what each user's brain activity looks like when one, for instance, imagines a left turn or a jump.
Neuroscientists have expressed varying views about Emotiv's headset and technology -- electrical activity in the brain is notoriously difficult to decode -- but it does work. It is a natural for gaming, where ever more complex environments demand more complex inputs. But it's also a potential gamechanger for accessibility apps, such as steering a wheelchair. Le herself has an extraordinary story -- a refugee from Vietnam at age 4, she entered college at 16 and has since become a vital young leader in her home country of Australia.

News Khabran / India to provide $5M aid to Pakistan for flood relief
« on: August 20, 2010, 01:37:57 PM »
News Update: Pakistan accepts flood aid money from India

Pakistan has accepted a "very welcome" offer of financial aid for flood victims from its neighbour and perennial rival India, a donation indicating improving relations between the regional powers despite the relatively modest sum involved.

The $5m (£3.2m) donation was made as "a goodwill offer for solidarity", a spokesman for India's foreign ministry said.

Pakistan's foreign minister, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, told Indian television that his government was happy to take the money. "I think this initiative of India is a very welcome initiative," he said from New York, where he is attending a special UN assembly on the floods, which have spread across a fifth of the nation. At least 8 million people are in urgent need of humanitarian aid.

The move came a day after India's prime minister, Manmohan Singh, spoke to his Pakistani counterpart, Yousuf Raza Gilani, to express his condolences.

India had previously faced criticism for not joining in the international efforts to help its neighbour.

The two countries have experienced turbulent relations since partition in 1947, fighting two wars over the disputed territory of Kashmir. Relations plummeted anew in 2008 when Islamist militants who, according to India, were assisted by Pakistan's security services, undertook a bloody terrorist raid on Mumbai.

While offers of aid are continuing to arrive from around the world – the UK has now pledged almost £65m in direct assistance – relief agencies warn that rapid action is needed. The UN's World Food Programme has called for more helicopters to deliver aid to remote areas, saying it currently had the use of just 10.

The need is all the more urgent amid increasing fears of major outbreaks of disease. "With over 38,000 reported cases of acute diarrhoea already and at least one confirmed cholera death, the spectre of major cholera outbreaks is real," Professor Zulfiqar Bhutta of the women and child health division at Aga Khan University in Karachi wrote in the Lancet medical journal.

Pakistan's government moved to try and assuage fears that militant Islamist groups could fill the vacuum caused by aid not arriving and exploit anger against the civilian administration.

"The banned organisations are not allowed to visit flood-hit areas," Pakistan's interior minister, Rehman Malik, told Reuters. "We will arrest members of banned organisations collecting funds and will try them under the anti-terrorism act."

The country's president, Asif Ali Zardari, has warned that militants are trying to use the floods to promote their agendas, as they did after a devastating earthquake in Kashmir in 2005.

The US has now promised almost £100m in assistance, while the UN says it has received pledges for about 60% of its appeal for around £300m to help flood victims.

According to forecasters, the floods could begin to recede in Punjab province but there is a danger of more rain in Sindh over the next week. These provinces, where the majority of Pakistanis live, have been hit hardest by the floods.

Knowledge / What is WikiLeaks?
« on: August 16, 2010, 11:25:53 PM »

WikiLeaks or Wikileaks is an international organization that publishes anonymous submissions and leaks of otherwise unavailable documents while preserving the anonymity of sources. Its website, launched in 2006, is run by The Sunshine Press.[1] Within a year of its launch, the site claimed a database that had grown to more than 1.2 million documents.[2]

The organization has described itself as having been founded by Chinese dissidents, as well as journalists, mathematicians, and start-up company technologists from the U.S., Taiwan, Europe, Australia and South Africa.[1] Newspaper articles and The New Yorker magazine (June 7, 2010) describe Julian Assange, an Australian journalist and Internet activist, as its director.[3]
