ਪੁੱਛਦੀ ਧੀ ਲਾਡਲੀ ਬਾਬਲ ਤੋਂ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮਾਰੇਂਗਾ ਤੇ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਡੋਲੀ ਚਾੜ੍ਹਨ ਦੇ ਡਰ ਤੋਂ, ਸੂਲੀ ਚਾੜ੍ਹੇਗਾਂ ਤੇ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਪੁੱਤ ਹੋਇਆ ਜਵਾਨ ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਨੂੰ ਹੁੱਬ-ਹੁੱਬ ਦੱਸਦਾ ਏਂ,
ਕੰਡਿਆਂ ਵਾਂਗੂੰ ਚੁੱਭਦੀ ਧੀ ਦੇ, ਫੁੱਲ ਤਾਰੇਂਗਾ ਤੇ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਪੁੱਤ ਦੀ ਲੋਹੜੀ ਪਾਉਣ ਲਈ, ਪੰਜਾਬ ਨੂੰ ਚੱਲਿਆ ਏਂ,
ਕਨੇਡਾ ਸੱਦਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਦੀ, ਲੋਹੜੀ ਪਾਵੇਂਗਾ ਕਿ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਇੱਜ਼ਤ, ਲਿਆਕਤ ਤੇ ਸੁਹੱਪਣ, ਮੇਰੇ ਕੋਲ ਸਭ ਕੁੱਝ ਹੈ,
ਜੇ ਸਰਿਆ ਨਾ ਮੈਥੋਂ ਦਾਜ, ਤਾਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸਾੜੇਂਗਾ ਤੇ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਮੰਦੇ ਕੰਮੀਂ ਪਤੀ ਮਰ ਗਿਆ, ਮੇਰਾ ਕੀ ਕਸੂਰ,
ਡੈਣ ਦਾ ਰੁਤਬਾ ਦੇ ਕੇ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਲਤਾੜੇਂਗਾ ਤੇ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਮਿਹਰ ਹੋਈ ਏ ਰੱਬ ਦੀ, ਮੇਰੀ ਕੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਗ ਲਾਏ,
ਮੁੰਡਾ ਏ ਜਾਂ ਕੁੜੀ, ਟੈਸਟ ਕਰਾਵੇਂਗਾ ਤੇ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਧੀਆਂ ਘਰ ਦੀ ਨੀਂਹਾਂ, ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਬਰਕਤ ਹੈ।
ਹੋਈਆਂ ਧੀਆਂ ਵੇਖ ਜਵਾਨ, ਕਿਤੇ ਘਬਰਾਵੇਂਗਾ ਤੇ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਸੋ ਕਿਉਂ ਮੰਦਾ ਆਖੀਏ, ਜਿਤੁ ਜੰਮੇ ਰਾਜਾਨ,
ਬਾਬੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਬਚਨ, ਕਿਤੇ ਭੁਲਾਵੇਂਗਾ ਤੇ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਧੀਆਂ ਹੀ ਮਾਂਵਾਂ ਬਣਦੀਆਂ ਨੇ, ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੁਰਕਾਰੀਂ ਨਾ,
ਦੋਵੇਂ ਹੱਥੀਂ ਛਾਂਵਾਂ ਕਰਦੀਆਂ ਨੇ, ਪੈਰੀਂ ਹੱਥ ਲਾਵੇਂਗਾ ਕਿ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਇਹ ਕੁੜੀਆਂ-ਚਿੜੀਆਂ ਨੇ, ਥੋੜ੍ਹਾ ਚਿਰ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਉਡ ਜਾਣਾ,
ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਹੜੇ ਆਈ ਕੂੰਜਾਂ ਨੂੰ, ਚੋਗਾ ਪਾਵੇਂਗਾ ਕਿ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਸਾਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਲੜਦੀ ਜਿਹੜੀ, ਮੁੱਕ ਚੱਲੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ,
ਉਸ ਮਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣ ਲਈ, ਕਦੇ ਜਾਵੇਂਗਾ ਕਿ ਨਹੀਂ।
