Punjabi:
Loki kehnde aa ke dharam te sarkar vich farak hona chahida. Dono kathe ni hone chahide, tuhanu kii lagda?
- Ajj kal di khabar hi sunlayo... loki kehnde aa ke Ramdev nu politics vich ni hona chaida? Ja fir ke government nu dharmik ni hona chaida (like the Arab world)?

English:
I hear people say a lot of times that separation of church and state is important. People say that it causes a lot of problems. Recent news shows Ramdev trying to cross from yoga to politics, or how the Arab world is repeatedly criticized for being theocratic, rather than democratic, or religious rather than secular. What do you think?

News Khabran / Guru Nanak Dev ji owns 1800 acres in Pak

Guru Nanak Dev ji owns 1800 acres in Pak

A new book says the Pakistan Supreme Court has upheld the land ownership of Guru Nanak
Ajay Bhardwaj, Chandigarh

The first Sikh guru Guru Nanak Dev still owns over 1800 acres in Nankana Sahib district Pakistan.

According to the revenue records of the district, Rai Bular Khan, who owned over 3600 acres, had donated half of it to Hazrat Nanak Dev in late 15th century when Guru Nanak was just a teenager and has been in his name since then.

These are the findings of Dr Harpal Singh Pannu, head of the Sikh Religious Studies in the Punjabi University, Patiala, who has in his book, 'Gautam to Taski', sought to establish that the said land had been in illegal possession of the progenies of Rai Bular Khan.

Pannu said the subsequent generations, who had been in possession of the land, filed a court case also in 80s to acquire legal ownership. "But the Pakistan Supreme Court ruled against it in 1991 and upheld the ownership of Guru Nanak of the land", Pannu said.

He said the historic Nankana Sahib gurdwara was located on part of this land of which the major chunk had been under illegal possession of the Khan family.

Pakistan, incidentally has proposed to set up the Sikh University on this land.

In his book Pannu said the land was donated to Guru Nanak after one his desires to have a son was fulfilled with the blessings of the first Sikh guru.

He said he would visit Pakistan shortly to procure the legal documents and submit them to the SGPC for further action.

He contended that the land should be legally transferred to the name of Guru Granthi Sahib, which has been recognised as a living Guru and successor of the first Sikh guru.

Religous Videos / Freedom of Food and the Golden Temple

A new version of the same film but with a very different pace. The music comes from Spirit voyage and the piece is Ong Namo by the amazing Snatam Kaur (spiritvoyage.com).
From a culture of sharing we have become a culture driven by possession and profit. The century of self. This short film comes from the kitchens of the golden temple where every day around 100,000 people, regardless of colour, caste or religion, donate, prepare, consume and clean for nothing more than compassion. Are we really moving in the right direction? This year the world will produce enough food to feed twice the world's population, yet every day almost one billion people will sleep hungry.

Sent by a friend...

This morning at Gurudwara Bangla Sahib, it was raining very heavily. Nobody could be seen in the open and many were taking shelter within Gurdwara Sahib, waiting for the rain to stop. Surprisingly, I noticed a Veer doing sewa in the open despite being heavily drenched with water from head till toe.

A sewadaar at Gurdwara Sahib advised him "ki jaldi hai, tusi meeh de rukan tak intazar kar sakde ho!" and his reply stunned all present there . He said " Veerji, sewa sirf tan toh nahi, man toh vi hondi hai. Te man te es meeh/barsaat da koi asar nahi. Je mein es meeh de karke gurghar di sewa chad deya, ta dasso meeh vadda ki mera Guru"

The Sewadaar definately learnt a lesson about sewa today !

Cab driver wanted in rape of passenger in Brooklyn

Cabbie Sought In Violent Willamsburg Rape

A knife-wielding cabby tied up and raped a young female passenger in the back seat of his yellow taxi in Brooklyn, police sources said last night.

The 26-year-old victim's nightmare began early Friday after a night of drinking at Public Assembly on North Sixth Street near Kent Avenue in Williamsburg.

After hailing the cab and asking to be taken to her home in Manhattan, the intoxicated victim fell asleep, the sources said.

When she came to, her hands had been bound with a scarf and the driver was raping her.

The cabby then took the victim's cellphone and $20 and pushed her out of the vehicle at Rodney and South First streets, cops said.
She walked a few blocks and reported the attack to police.
The woman was taken to a hospital where she was treated for facial and hand cuts.
The driver was described as in his early 40s and approximately 5-foot-8, cops said.
A Taxi and Limousine Commission spokesman said no suspect has been identified, and declined further comment.
A 19-year-old woman in the neighborhood last night was shocked to hear the news.
"It's scary because I usually take cabs here," said the woman, who asked that her name not be published. "I guess I gotta be more careful."

April 26, 2011: Arizona Governor Jan Brewer is deciding on signing a bill to remove Balbir Singh Sodhi’s name from the state’s 9/11 memorial and sell his memorial plaque as scrap metal.

Arizona Representative John Kavanagh introduced the bill because Sodhi “was not a 9/11 victim.” In fact, Mr. Kavanagh believes the tragic hate crime was unconnected to 9/11. SALDEF is outraged at the disrespect the Arizona state legislature has shown Mr. Sodhi’s memory, family, and the Sikh American community. The efforts by Mr. Kavanaugh and his colleagues to deny the fact that Mr. Sodhi’s murder was a consequence of 9/11 is completely unfounded, unacceptable, and shows a complete failure in leadership.

TAKE ACTION: Sign the petition urging Gov. Brewer to veto the bill

Sikh temple attack

Seven people were arraigned on riot and assault charges Monday for their roles in a vicious turf battle at a Sikh temple in Queens.
Assailants wielding cricket bats and small swords disrupted prayer services Sunday morning at the Baba Makhan Shah Lubana Sikh Center in Richmond Hill, police and witnesses said.
"I'm going to kill you," defendant Harinder Singh, 47, screamed before punching Joginder Singh in the face, says a criminal complaint filed in Queens Supreme Court.
Gurnam Singh, 47, rushed into the temple swinging a stick and lunging at others while religious ceremonies were underway, the complaint says.
A cop managed to wrest away the stick before the suspect flailed his arms wildly to prevent being handcuffed, police say. At least one cop was injured.
Several of the defendants were charged with disrupting a religious service.
Temple President Jarnail Singh said the melee was caused by a dissident group of followers who don't want to see membership rolls opened at the 101st Ave. temple.
"We tried to open membership, and a group didn't want it," he said yesterday. "They want to fight it."
The dispute is at the center of a pending lawsuit in Queens Supreme Court. The temple president said he hopes the warring factions will let a judge mete out justice instead of resorting to violence.
"What the court decides I will believe," he said. "It's his decision."
