Religion, Faith, Spirituality / Saakhi Bhilnee Di
« on: July 29, 2010, 05:47:23 PM »
By what virtues can I meet the Lord of life, O my mother? - Saakhi Bhilnee Di

This is the story of a woman named Bhilnee who was forced to live on her own in a hut. She was of a low caste and in addtion she was not beautiful. Her parents turned her out of their house, as they did not want to feed another mouth and because it was very unlikely due to her homely appearance that anyone would agree to marry her to their son. Even people who walked by Bhilnee would look away and keep on walking to avoid conversation with her.

One day, Bhilnee went to the Pampasar Tirath, a place of pilgrimage and worship. She drank the water of the sarovar (pool) and bathed in it as well. When the Rishis (seers) saw her, they stopped her, saying that the holy water of the pool has been contaminated now because she had touched it. With tears running down her face, Bhilnee was pushed and shoved out from Pampasar Tirath by the Rishis.

(Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, ang 204).

Bhilnee was not beautiful, nor had wealth, knowledge or birth into a high caste. Someone who has none of these is usually mistreated by people. The Rishis warned Bhilnee to never come to Pampasar Tirath again. They were angry that she had come and made the water unholy by her bathing in it.

(Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, ang 201).

The next day, when the Rishis awakened to take their morning bath in the pool, they found it full of worms. They were surprised since just yesterday the water was perfectly clean and yet today it is full of worms. The Rishis ordered the water of the sarovar to be replaced with fresh water. The pool again became reinfested. The sarovar’s water was replaced a second time, but the same thing happened.

Finally, the Rishis gave up in their efforts and decided to ask Raam Chandra, the divine incarnation of the Trayta yug, to come and clear the water by placing his foot in the sarovar. They went to ask Raam Chandra to accomplish this favor and he obliged by giving them the date and time he would come to Pampasar Tirath.

All the Rishis began cleaning their homes. One said that Raam Ji would pass by his home along his route ; another said Raam Ji would go that by his area. All are hoping that they could please Raam Ji and that he may grant them a boon.

Bhilnee heard the news and hoped that Raam Ji would come to her little hut as well, but then reflected that she had nothing to serve him to eat while others in anticipation of Raam Ji coming to their homes were preparing special sweets to serve him. Bhilnee went to the jungle and from a berry tree she began picking some berries. As she picked them she would taste the fruit to see if each was sour or sweet. She would put the sour berries in one pile and gathered the sweet berries in another pile for Raam Ji, all the while forgetting that she was making them all impure by tasting each one.

She took the sweet berries home and prayed that Raam Ji would bring his holy presence to her home just once.

As Raam Ji came through the village, the Rishis were standing outside their homes with garlands of flowers to adorn him with. He would point and ask "Whose shelter is this?" The Rishis replied, "This shelter belongs to the celibates."

Raam Ji pointed at the next home and asked, "Whose shelter is this?" The Rishis replied, "This one belongs to the ascetics."

At the next shelter, again Raam Ji asked "Whose shelter is this?" The Rishis replied, "This shelter belongs to the renunciates."

The next one was Bhilnee’s little hut. Raam Ji stood in front of it and asked, "Who does this shelter belong to?" The Rishis replied, "Raam Ji, please don’t go into that one. That hut belongs to the low woman, Bhilnee."

Raam Ji answered to the Rishis, "But I have come especially to see Bhilnee."

Raam Ji proceeded to the doorway of the hut and called out, "To whom does this shelter belong?"

Bhilnee answered from inside, "This shelter belongs to Raam Ji." And with that Raam Ji entered Bhilnee’s hut. Raam Ji placed his hand upon Bhilnee’s head and asked her to open her eyes. After having the blessed vision of Raam Ji, the divine incarnate of Trayta yug, Bhilnee served the berries and Raam Ji ate them.

Then Raam Ji took Bhilnnee along with him to Pampasar Tirath. He asked the Rishis to place their feet in the sarovar but nothing happened to the water. Then Raam Ji placed his own foot in the water but still nothing changed in the water. Finally, Raam Ji asked Bhilnee to place her foot in the water. Bhilnee objected to this stating that when God himself is present then what would her doing this do? But Raam Ji insisted. Bhilnee touched the water with her foot and as her foot entered the water, the water became clear and the worms disappeared.

He Himself preserves the honor of His servants; He causes others to fall at the feet of His devotees.

(Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, ang 555).

Throughout the ages, there have been countless devoted servants of God. Many of them were not accepted by the society they lived in, but God has always preserved their honor by opening the eyes of those who were false.

Waheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa!
Waheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!!

Bibi Bhani was Guroo's Amar Das Jee's youngest daughter and used to attend her father regularly. She used to fan Him, draw water and also work in the kitchen. One day the Guroo was sitting on His couch (chauki) in deep meditation, when Bibi Bhani noticed that one leg of His couch had broken. Fearing that His meditation would be disturbed, she put her arm in place of the broken leg to support the couch. When the Guroo opened His eyes, He found blood coming out of Bibi Bhani's arm. On inquiry Bibi explained that the broken leg might have caused disturbance in His meditation and so she thought herself fortunate to serve the Guroo by substituting her arm for the broken leg of the couch.

The Guroo commented, "whosoever does good work, shall reap the reward thereof." He invited her to ask for any favor. She humbly requested that the Gurooship should remain in her family. It is believed that the Guroo told Bibi Bhani that the Gurooship was not a bed of roses, and He warned her of the trouble and torture that the later Guroos would have to go through. Bibi Bhani agreed to embrace all those troubles, and again requested to grant her the wish that the Gurooship would remain in her family. So far the Gurooship was earned by obedience and devotion to the Guroo. Here again Bibi Bhani earned it, for her family, with her devotion and sacrifice. The Guroo granted her the wish and the Gurooship thereafter remained in Bibi Bhani's family.

Sahib Satguru Shri Guru Harkrishan Sahib Ji dae Praksh Utsav Diya Sab Nu Lakh Lakh Mubarka hun!!!

Guru Har Krishan Ji (Gurmukhi: ਗੁਰੂ ਹਰਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ) (Wednesday, 23 July 1656 - Saturday, 16 April 1664) was the eighth of the Ten Gurus of Sikhism. He became Guru on Sunday, 20 October 1661 following in the footsteps of his father, Guru Har Rai Ji. Before Guru Ji died, he nominated Baba Bakala ji, as the next Guru of the Sikhs. It turns out that this
was his granduncle Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. The following is a summary of the main
highlights of Guru ji's short life: ✏ Hari Krishan had ver less age when he controlled the diocese of preaching Sikhism.
There are very few Devotees in past history
which have high level of spirituality in such
small age. Prahlad, Dhruv were one of them
and Guru Hari Krishan is also in same list. All
other Guru's sat on Gaddi when they were minimum 12 of age, but only GUru Hari
Krishen sat on Gaddi when he was just 5 of
age. ✏ When Guruji stayed in Delhi there was a smallpox epidemic which resulted in many
deaths. By Guruji's blessing, the lake at Bangla Sahib provided a cure for thousands. Exposing himself to his many devotees he too
died of Smallpox. Thus he unselfishly, without
the thought of danger to himself, served many
people. This is true Sewa to care for the sick even at the risk of one's own life. ✏ Gurdwara Bangla Sahib was constructed in Guruji's memory. This is where he stayed
during his visit to Delhi. This was originally the
palace of Raja Jai Singh, who was a strong Sikh and a devotee of the Guru. ✏ Guru Sahib caused the illiterate water- carrier named Chhaju Ram to expound the philosophy of the holy Gita on the challenge from Pandit Lal Chand. On hearing this
narration of the holy Gita, Pandit Lal Chand was deeply humiliated. He was so impressed
with this feat performed by the Guru that he
became a Sikh and later escorted the Guru
Sahib up to Kurukashatra.

but the true ones...which had blessing of kabir jee and beleived in him...did not leave him!!... when they asked kabir jee ...y r u doing this...y do u want to be slandered...u cud have easily told them some timings to come!!

....kabir jee said there r 2 reasons for this..

first : i want to teach only trustworthy followers who really beleive in GOD!!

second : as far as slandering goes.... if u slander a person who recites the name of GOD and does saintly acts then..

the person's good deeds r burned away .....but for the saints .. their paaps get burned away...

so kabir jee said its good for him becoz his paaps are getting burned !!

thus he wrote this beautiful shabad !!

ga-orhee kabeer jee-o.
Gauree, Kabeer Jee:

Knowledge / 1964 Paonta Sahib Massacre
« on: July 22, 2010, 10:37:35 AM »
Paonta Sahib is the only holy place after Anandpur Sahib where Guru Gobind Singh Ji resided the longest for a period of four years from 1685 to 1689. Situated on the bank of Jamuna, its ever pleasing peaceful surroundings touch every heart and soul. Many historical events took place here such as Guru Sahib writing and composing many parts of Dasam Granth, Pir Buddhu Shah fighting in the battle of Bhanghani in which four of his sons became martyrs and then blessing him with Kes and Kangha. Guru Sahib erected a fort in 1685 and named it ‘Panvta’ which was used in the battle of Bhanghani against the hill kings. In summary, it is a sacred place where Guru Sahib held his darbar (court) and taught Sikhs many valuable lessons. When Guru Granth Sahib was declared the last and final Guru of the Sikhs, the holy place became known as Paonta Sahib and a Gurdwara was erected in the memory of Guru Gobind Singh Ji.

Gurdwaras are source from which the Sikh nation draws its power. It is for this reason that whenever anti-Sikhi forces resorted to destroying the Sikh religion, Gurdwaras became the first target. Maharaja Ranjit Singh knew that Gurdwaras were strength of the Sikhs and spent large amount of money in building and repairing the Gurdwaras. Sikhs have always fought and sacrificed themselves for the sanctity of the Gurdwaras. During Mughal Empire, Gurdwaras were under control of Nirmalas and Udasis and they managed the Gurdwaras according to Guru’s rehat (code of conduct). By 1799, almost all of the Gurdwaras were under their control and management. As Sikhs grew in power, the money started flowing to Gurdwaras and Nirmalas and Udasis started using it for their personal benefits. Engrossed in the power of wealth they turned away from Sikhi and started considering Gurdwaras as their personal property. During British rule, they were given full support to run the Gurdwaras as they liked and engage in many anti-Sikhi activities for the purpose of weakening the Sikh nation.

These mahants started abusing their power and mismanaging the Gurdwaras. Idols were installed in Darbar Sahib. Smoking and drinking became normal at Nankana Sahib and Taran Taaran Sahib. Killers of Jallianwala Bagh Massacre were honored at Akal Takhat Sahib, Pro. Gurmukh Singh and martyrs of Kamagata Maru were excommunicated from the Panth. At last, Sikhs could not tolerate it anymore and started Gurdwara Reform Movement. Over time, all of the Gurdwaras were freed by Sikhs and SGPC was formed to properly manage and run the Gurdwaras.

During the Gurdwara Reform Movement, Paonta Sahib was being managed by Mahant Lehna Singh who was a devout Sikh. He presented himself at Darbar Sahib and wished to hand over the control of the Gurdwara to SGPC but seeing his humbleness and devotion, Sikhs appointed him to manage the Gurdwara. After his death, his son Gurdial Singh took over the Gurdwara. He established political connections with many of the leaders after which he started misusing the Gurdwara for personal gains. Management became worse and Sikhs in the area started complaining to the SGPC, jathebandis and leaders like Master Tara Singh, Karta Singh and Hukam Singh. Hearing about the mismanagement of the Gurdwara, Baba Chet Singh, head of Buddha Dal, went to Paonta Sahib. Fearing the Nihungs, Gurdial Singh summoned himself, apologized for his misdeeds and took Amrit.

After Buddha Dal left for Punjab, Gurdial Singh resorted back to his misdeeds. His everyday activities did not go unnoticed. Many of the local Sikhs went to Punjab and invited Baba Harbhajan Singh, head of Tarna Dal, to come with them and take over the Gurdwara. On March 10th, 1964 Baba Ji took control of the Gurdwara at the request of local Sikhs. At the Gurdwara, Nihungs had started Akhand Paath Sahib (continuation of reading the Holy Scripture) and restored the Rehat Maryada of Guru Sahib. Kirtan, Katha and regular diwans were held everyday. Number of visitors to the Gurdwara started to increase. This was obviously not welcomed by Gurdial Singh but he found himself helpless in front of armed Nihung Singhs. He hired some thugs and sought help of the police to restore his control.

On May 22nd, the police called Baba Harbhajan Singh to resolve the issue with Gurdial and make compromise but instead he was arrested and held in custody. Then, the police marched towards the Gurdwara. The police announced on loud speakers informing the Nihungs to come out but no one did as they were reciting the Holy Scripture. At last, the police broke the doors and windows of the Gurdwara and entered the premises with shoes on. As soon as the police walked in they started firing at Sikhs. Many of the Nihungs cooking langar and doing seva were shot dead. Nihungs reciting the Holy Scripture were also not spared and shot dead by the police. Guru Granth Sahib was drenched in the blood of the Sikhs. One Nihung who was reading Guru Granth Sahib raised his hand as a sign of stopping the police from shooting and interrupting the Akhand Paath. But the police shot his hand and he became wounded. Even then he continued to recite but the police went a step further and shot him in the chest. Nihung Singh died at the spot and fell on the saroop of Guru Granth Sahib. Baba Nihal Singh was standing next to him and wanted to take his place but the police shot him as well and he severely became wounded.

Total of 8 Sikhs were martyred inside the Gurdwara. The police loaded up their bodies in the truck and took them to a forest to be burnt. Three bodies were lying outside of the Gurdwara which were later cremated by the Sikhs. The entire Gurdwara was filled with empty gun shells and walls were full of bullet marks. The floor had turned red with blood. The police took saroop of Guru Granth Sahib, Dasam Granth and weapons of Guru Sahib with them. Nagara (war drum) also bore bullet marks. It was revealed later that one Sikh was beating the nagara to call other Sikhs and warn them of the attack but the police filled his body with bullets. The police tried to clean up the floor and walls but left after unsuccessful attempts. The Gurdwara Sahib was later repaired by the Sikhs. Total of 11 Nihungs of Tarna Dal sacrificed for the sanctity of the Gurdwara. Baba Nihal Singh, a wounded Sikh, became the next head of Tarna Dal and became known as a ‘Jinda Shaheed’ (Living Martyr). This bloody massacre gave a glimpse of what Mughal invaders had done to Darbar Sahib in 18th century. It leaves no doubt that although the government had changed but the oppressive policies against the Sikhs had not and continued to exist.

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

One time Bhai Gurpal Singh Ji was going towards Maharashta with his nephew in a truck. As they were travelling they noticed some chickens crossing the road. Bhai Sahib stopped their truck and followed the chickens which had accumulated near a pond. Bhai Gurpal Singh Ji then shot at some of the chickens which fell into the pond. Bhai Gurpal Singh Ji’s nephew immediately ran towards the pond to try and retrieve the dead chickens. As he was doing this he fell into the pond and began to cry out for help. Bhai Gurpal Singh Ji seeing his nephew’s plight quickly jumped into the pond. As Bhai Gurpal Singh Ji tried to take hold of his nephew he noticed a snake wrapping itself around his leg as it began to drag him and his nephew deeper into the pond.

At that moment Bhai Gurpal Singh Ji began to think of Sant Gyani Baba Gurbachan Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale. As he did this he had a vision of Mahapursh doing the chaur seva of Dhan Dhan Dhan Dhan Dhan Dhan Dhan Satguru Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj.* When Bhai Sahib regained consciousness he noticed that his nephew and him had drifted to the edge of the pond. After crawling out of the pond they were surprised to note that they were completely unharmed.

Following this episode Bhai Sahib and his nephew went to see Mahapursh. Sant Ji looked at Bhai Gurpal Singh Ji and lovingly told him “killing any living thing is a mahapaap. In the future never forget this and never do this again”. Bhai Sahib and his nephew then did an ardas to Guru Sahib to help them follow this bachan.

*From this I believe that Sant Ji was trying to show Bhai Sahib that when we do an ardas we should always think of only our beloved Guru, Dhan Dhan Dhan Dhan Dhan Dhan Dhan Dhan Satguru Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj of who Sant Ji is a beloved sevadaar.

Akho Satnam Sri Waheguru.
