This is a translation from a very famous book of Bhai Raghbir Singh jee. Please read this true incident that took place about 40 years ago in Calcutta, Bengal, India. It may change your life:
*******TRANSLATION BEGINS********
THE AGREEMENT OF A SIKH AND VAHEGURU
A well educated Giani jee came to visit me at Calcutta and told me that he has read Bandagi Nama (a book by Bhai Raghbir Singh jee) and had a strong urge to meet me. I asked him the reason he was visiting Calcutta. He responded by saying that during the second world war, he served on the border of Hindustan in the capacity of his government service and upon the end of the world war, he had been asked by the government to see a senior engineer at Calcutta (with regard of his job). This meeting had occurred a day ago and even though the senior engineer had not submitted his report in writing, he had told Giani jee orally that Giani jee was not the kind of employee they needed to work on their machines because he did not have any experience working on these machines. For this reason he was not going to get this job.
From the face of Giani jee one could easily see sadness and dejectedness. For this reason I asked Giani jee, “Do you want to get that job?” Giani jee responded by saying that even though whatever Vaheguru does is only good but he had a lot of expectations on getting this job and he was going back to Punjab with great regrets.
I asked Giani jee to wait a couple of days more as the senior engineer had not yet submitted his written report about his decision not to hire Giani jee. Giani jee responded by saying that since the senior engineer had already given him his decision orally, it would be futile to wait for his written report. Later, before leaving he said to me that though he did not get job in Calcutta but he that he was very pleased to meet me. At that time I remembered a shabad of Siri Guru Arjun Dev jee and as per inspiration from that shabad, I humbly addressed Giani jee as follows:
“Giani jeeo, did you give Vaheguru a chance to help you in this matter?”
In response to this, Giani jee said, “Before coming to Calcutta I did ardaas. I did not do anything else. What do you mean by giving Vaheguru a chance to help me? Do you mean, Vaheguru is looking for a chance or an opportunity to help out and when he gets a chance he helps out? I have always been under the impression that everything happens in the hukam of Vaheguru. Under the hukam of Vaheguru, I would have received “yes” as an answer and under his hukam alone I received “no” as an answer from the engineer.
In response to this, I asked Giani jee, “ if you are so willing to accept the hukam (will) of Vaheguru then you should have stayed stable after listening to the negative answer from the senior management but the fact is that you became so despondent that you did not bother to wait for the written response from the management and wanted to leave right away. Do you consider your spiritual and mental state to be at a level where you would be willing to accept the will of Vaheguru? I think you would have been happy if you had got this job and now as you did not get this job, you are trying to decrease your despondency by saying that it is will of Vaheguru”.
After hearing my response, Giani jee started thinking and in a short while addressed me as follows:
“After hearing you, I agree that you are right. The truth is that I wanted this job and this is why I came to Calcutta and would have been happy if I had got this job, but since I did not get this job and since I feel helpless in this situation, I called this bad happening a “bhaana” (will) of Vaheguru”
I interrupted Giani jee at this point and said, “you should have given Vaheguru a chance to help you. According to the teachings of Siri Guru Granth Sahib jee, one thing that Vaheguru does not know how to do is to not keep honour of one who comes to his protection”.
JO SHARAN AAVAI, TIS KANTH LAAVAI; IH BIRAD SUAAMI SANDAA||
And
KAURA BOL NAA JAANAI, POORAN BHAGVAANAI, AUGUN KO NAA CHITAARE||
After listening to me, Giani jee asked me what I meant by “giving Vaheguru a chance to help” and what I meant by coming to his protection (sharan). .
I responded by saying that according to the teachings of Siri Guru Granth Sahib jee, one comes to the protection of Vaheguru when one’s state of mind is as stated in the following Gurbani pankiti:
SAGAL DUAAR KO CHHAAD KE, GAHIYO TUHAARO DUYAAR|| BAAHEN GAHE KEE LAAJ AS, GOBIND DAAS TUHAAR||
When ones’ state of mind is as stated in the great saying of Guru Gobind Singh jee, then we can call such person as coming to the sharan of Vaheguru. This is how one can give Vaheguru a chance to help us.
After listening to me, Giani jee was filled with love for Vaheguru and very humbly he said, “I have never come to the sharan of Vaheguru like this and nor I have ever given Vaheguru a chance to help me”.
I said, “Vaheguru does not have any reservations that you have never sought his sharan. You can try going to his sharan right now, and you can give Vaheguru a chance to fix your problems right now”.
Giani jee asked me, “Please explain how I can give Vaheguru a chance now to help me. What should I do now?
In response I said that he should do that agreement (contract) with Vaheguru that Guru Arjun Dev jee wants all his Sikhs to do but only fortunate ones do it.
Giani jee eagerly asked me, “What agreement or contract is that?”
I responded, “the details of this agreement with Vaheguru have been listed in Raag Gauri, by Guru Arjun Dev jee. The first and the most difficult condition of this agreement is that a Sikh should come to the sharan of Vaheguru with true heart and full humility.
The second condition that pertains to Vaheguru is that in return to the first condition that if a Sikh comes to the sharan of Vaheguru with true heart and humility then Vaheguru does all work for the Sikh and sorts out all problems for him. All his sorrows, worries, and pain get destroyed by Vaheguru and he fulfills all needs of his Sikh. That Sikh gets respect everywhere he goes and always is victorious in all situations. All the people of the world bow in front of his Sikh, out of respect and love”.
“The third condition of this agreement with Vaheguru is that when Vaheguru begins to fix the problems of the Sikh, then the Sikh of Vaheguru should shed all fear and japp (recite) Naam of Vaheguru. As a result of this Naam japp, the Sikh will get great bliss.
“he fourth condition of this agreement is that the Sikh of Vaheguru after receiving all these gifts from Vaheguru should share it with the world with open heart”.
Hearing this, Giani jee asked me, “Why does Vaheguru do all this for his Sikh, just for coming in his sharan?”
In response to this, I said, “Vaheguru who is the king of all kings does not expect any favour in return from a Sikh. He knows of the true situation of his Sikh’s mind and so long as a Sikh does not seek his sharan with true heart, he does not consider it appropriate to help his Sikh but as soon as Vaheguru realizes that his Sikh has complete faith in him and has shed other hopes, Vaheguru gets very pleased with his Sikh. At that point his grace is invoked and it fixes all problems of his Sikh. In the end of the shabad, Guru Arjun Dev jee states that he himself has done this agreement with Vaheguru and advise all his Sikhs to do the same”.
Giani jee eagerly asked me, “What shabad is that where such great and profitable agreement is written?”.
When I read out the below listed shabad, Giani jee got very surprised and said that he reads this shabad everyday but had never pondered upon this shabad so deeply”
THIR GHAR BAISO HARJAN PYAARE|| SATGUR TUMRE KAAJ SAVAARE|| 1 || RAHAO || DUSHT DOOT PARMESHAR MAARE|| JAN KEE PAIJ RAKHEE KARTAARE||1|| BADSHAAH SHAAH SABH VAS KAR DEENE|| AMRIT NAAM MAHA RASS PEENE||2|| NIRBHAU HOYE BHAJO BHAGVAAN|| SAADH SANGAT MIL KEENO DAAN||3|| SHARAN PARE PRABH ANTARJAAMI|| NANAK, OT PAKREE PRABH SUAAMI||4||
Next day Giani jee phoned me and said, “My heart is filled with many kind of emotions at this time and this is why I could come in person to meet you. I got the job I wanted and that same senior engineer who rejected me two days ago, gave me this job. I cannot comprehend this great happening and the only explanation I can give is that Vaheguru himself has fulfilled my wish. Please give me asees (best wish) that I may follow that agreement that I agreed to follow yesterday, in front of you, all my life”.
*********TRANSLATION OVER********
A lot can be learned from this article by Bhai Raghbir Singh jee. It is imperative to have Vaheguru on our side and the only way to do that is to seek his sharan and then do naam abhyaas.

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh Baghel Singh was born in village Jhabal, District Amritsar around 1730. From humble beginnings he rose to become a formidable force in Satluj to Jamuna area. He aligned himself with Karora Singhia misl led by Sardar Karora Singh and suceeded as a leader of Karora Singhia misl in 1765 after early demise of Karora Singh. Karora Singhia misl had 12,000 fighting men according to Syed Muhammad Latif, a muslim historian. As well as being a good soldier, Baghel Singh was a very good political negotiator and was able to win over many an adversary to his side. The Mughals, the Ruhilas, the Marathas and British sought his friendship. In the wake of decay of Mughal authority in the Punjab owing to Ahmad Shah Durrani's successive invasions during the latter half of the eighteenth century, the Sikhs began extending their influence. Baghel Singh's Karora Singhia misl fought head on with Ahmad Shah Durrani(also known as Abdali), alongwith other Dal Khalsa Misls near Kup at Malerkotla, where in one day of battle alone 30000 to 40000 of Sikh men, women and children lost their lives. After Durrani's invasion, Sikhs started consolidating the territories between Jamuna and Indus by incorporating into Misls. And misls reported to Chief of Dal Khalsa, Jassa Singh Ahluwalia about territory won, at Akal Takht Amritsar. Whereas Sukarchakia misl (of Ranjit Singh) won the territory of Gujranwala, and other areas of Ravi and Chenab Doab and Ramgarhia misl won the areas of Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Bhangi around Lahore and Kasur, Karora Singhia misl declared their ownership of territories now including Ambala, Karnal, Hissar, Rohtak, etc. Soon after the Sikh conquest of Sarhind in 1764, he extended his arms beyond Karnal and occupied number of villages including Chhalaudi which he later made his headquarters. Then Baghel Singh turned towards cis-Jamuna territories and Sikhs were soon invading territories beyond Delhi and into areas like Meerut, Awadh, and collecting tribute from these Nawabs. In February 1764, Sikhs in a body of 40,000 under the Command of Baghel Singh and other leading warriors crossed Jamuna and captured Saharanpur. They overran the territory of Najib-ud-Daulah, the Ruhila Chief, realizing from him a tribute of eleven Lakh of rupees. In April 1775, Baghel Singh with two other Sardars, Rai Singh Bhangi and Tara Singh Ghaiba, crossed the Jamuna to occupy that country, then ruled by Zabita Khan, son and successor of Najib-ud-Daulah. Zabita Khan in desperation offered Baghel Singh large sums of money and proposed alliance jointly to plunder the crown-lands. In March 1776, Baghel Singh's forces defeated Imperial Mughal Army near Muzaffarnagar. The whole of Jamuna-Gangetic Doab was now at their mercy. In April 1781, Mirza Shafi, a close relative of Prime minister of Mughals, captured the Sikh military post at Indri, 10km south of Badavi. Baghel Singh retaliated by attacking Khalil Beg Khan of Shahabad who surrendered with 300 horse, 800 foot and 2 pieces of cannon. On 11 March 1783 Sikhs entered Red fort in Delhi and occupied the Diwan-i-Aam, the Mughal Emperor, Shah Alam II, made a settlement with them agreeing to allow Baghel Singh to raise Gurdwaras on Sikh historical sites and realize six annas in a rupee of all the Octrai duties and tax collected by state (37.5 %). Baghel Singh stayed in Sabzi Mandi area of Delhi with 4000 troops, and took charge of the police station in Chandani Chowk. He located seven sites connected with the lives of the Gurus and had shrines raised thereon within the space of eight months, from April to November 1783. Gurdwara Sis Ganj marked the spot in the main Mughal street of Chandani Chowk where Guru Tegh Bahadur had been executed under the fiat of the emperor. Gurdwara Rakabganj, near modern day Parliament House, marks the spot where the body was cremated. Bangla Sahib and Bala Sahib commemorate the Eighth Guru, Guru Harkrishan. Three other Gurdwaras were built at Majnu ka Tila, Moti Bagh, and Teliwara. Baghel Singh died in 1802, at Hariana, a town in present day Hoshiarpur district. A Gurdwara enshrining the memory of one of the more committed Misl Sardars still stands in the town. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

WAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA WAHEGURU JI KI FATEH
Satguru Sri Guru Tegh Bahadhur Sahib Ji spent some time at Bakala communicating divine instructions to his beloved Sikhs. In the month of Magh, Sambat 1722, Satguru Ji went to Amritsar to bathe in the sacred tank, and behold the paradisal temple of Satguru Sri Guru Ram Das Ji Maharaj, the king of kings and the saint of saints.
Maharaj bathed, but the ministrants of the sacred edifice closed the doors of Sri Darbar Sahib against him. The miistrants turned away the ninth Nanak from his own House. Satguru saluted it however from without, then went beyond the precincts, and rested on a spot where now a stone platform dedicated to him. It was hear that Maharaj said it was they who were rotten within, who had through greed of offerings entered the temple. Guru Sahib then went and sat on a common near the spot where now is a cattle-market, and on which a damdama, or resting-place, has been built in his honour.
When the inhabitants of Amritsar heard what had occurred, they went in a body to him, and with great humility all bowed before their beloved Guru Sahib. They then in one voice begged Guru Sahib to return and revoke his prophetic curse, because it was his holy ancestors who had founded the edifice.
Maharaj smiled at his beloved sons and daughters and denied that his words bore the significance of a curse. He had merely stated the condition in which the ministrants then were, and in which they should remain.
Meanwhile a company of Sikhs came from the village of Walla, and with great humility begged their dear Guru Sahib to go and live with them and bless their village, a prayer to which the King of kings graciously acceded. When Guru Sahib's children come before his with complete faith and devotion, how can such a Guru how loves his children so much, say no to them?
On leaving Amritsar Guru Ji was escorted by the women of the city. On seeing their devotion he said, 'Waheguru's love and devotion shall ever abide among you.' In commemoration of Satguru Sri Guru Tegh Bahadhur Sahib Ji's visit a fair called the Kothe da Mela is held yearly at Walla on the day of the full moon in the month of Magh.
Having communicated religious instruction to the inhabitants of Walla, Guru Sahib then returned to his favourite Bakala. Here too he was not allowed to abide in peace, for the old jealousy and enmity of the Sodhis had revived.

GURU NANAK DEV JI SAID
Jo to prem khelan ka chao Sir dhar talee galee meree ao
if you want to play the game of love, bring your head to me on the palm of your hand. (the self has to die)
GURU ARJUN DEV JI SAID
pilla maran kabool, jeevan kee cchaad aas ho-e sabana kee renka tao ao hamaree paas
the first rule of dying is to give up all the hope's of life become the dust of everyone then come to me.
Some people do ardas and ask Vaahi-guroo Jee for spiritual and worldy gifts, then wonder why they didn't get anything. Disillusioned they lose faith in God! But we suffer from
'seva thoree mangan botha' little seva but ask alot'.
Who should we serve? Guru Gobind Singh ji said if you want to please me then serve the Khalsa for nothing pleases me more.
Hence, do seva of the Khalsa and become the dust of their feet. Then go to Guru Granth Sahib ji and the Punj Pyare with your head(ego) in your hand. Go down on one knee and with cupped hands beg for amrit naam. Do naam simran day and night, then do ardas with humility and love and see if Vaahi-Guroo jee doesn't fill you with all the blessings.

Advice on Bhagti From Guru Angad Dev Jee Taken from Kudrati Noor by Pr. Satbir Singh
Guru Anagd Dev jee spoke very little. He would come to Sangat and give advice or explain bani and succinctly express Gurmat in short saloks.
On Wealth
Guru Sahib used to say that one who has recognised that the world is only temporary will not spend all his effort on gathering wealth.
ijnI clxu jwixAw sy ikau krih ivQwr ] clx swr n jwxnI kwj svwrxhwr ]1]
Guru Sahib told his Sikhs that a truly successful person was not one with the most wealth. If they can see that a human comes with nothing and leaves with nothing, why would they spend all their time on collecting money? Such money-hungry people are driven by worldly praise and seek wealth to get it. Guru Sahib told his Sikhs to forget all worldly praise and greatness.
nwnk dunIAw kIAW vifAweIAW AgI syqI jwil ] eynI jlIeIN nwmu ivswirAw iek n clIAw nwil ]2]
Guru Sahib used to tell the Sangat not to be influenced by the rich as well. To please them, it is not necessary to humble or lower yourself. Doing this increases fear and powerlessness. Vahiguru showers his blessings on all. The rich and powerful are also just ordinary humans. When the call of death comes, their wealth will not help them stay here or extend their life.

Work is important but when doing this, it is important to not let ego enter the mind. It is important to do simran and sing shabads when working. With simran, the individual becomes so calm and stable that no worldly problem can shake him.
There is no greater education than being immersed in Naam. Leaving this and looking towards any other support or sustenance brings only pain. Those who mock the path of Bhagti are showing their own ignorance and idiocy.
Helping Others a Great Virtue
Guru Angad Dev jee used to say that helping others is a great virtue. There are three ways this can be done:
1) Whatever wealth or possessions you have should be shared with others. Do not waste what you have on pointless things like showing off to others. Share what you have with the poor and those engaged in Bhagti.
2) It is also a virtue to use your body to help others. Serving others prevents ego. Helping others with humility and sweetness.
3) To use the tongue to give knowledge and encouragement about the Guru and Naam is the third important way of helping others.
Guru Angad Dev Jee’s Advice on Bhagti
Guru Angad Dev jee explained that at first when one begins bhagti, it may be very difficult because it feels as if the relationship is very one-sided. We may not feel the love of Vahiguru. During this stage, there are nine things one should do:
1) Listen to Bani with faith
2) Do kirtan ones’ self
3) Not to waste time without naam. Do simran with every breath. Do not spend time on fruitless activity.
4) Put one’s consciousness at the feet of the Guru. Serve the Sangat with dedication
5) Have a giving attitude and forsake the desire to take and seize. Give what you have and feel good about it. Desire Good for others.
6) Go to the Dharamshala (Gurdwara) to listen and also to do humble seva.
7) Consider yourself to be a slave of Vahiguru. Consider everything you have as his and his gift to you.
8) Know Vahiguru to be your friend. Believe that your friend will never want to harm you. Whatever He does will be for your benefit.
9) Submit your everything to Vahiguru. Even make yourself a sacrifice and have no attachment to anything.
When these become a part of your life, you will feel Divine Love. Everything will seem like it is bloom. You will fee waves of love. You will be in the world but rise above it like the lotus.
The Bhagat’s face will glow red by drinking the nectar and will feel Vahiguru’s blessings constantly fall to him.
Vahiguru himself will complete the Bhagat’s tasks so that he is not distracted from the true goal.

Introduction
In the time of Guru Arjan Dev jee, there was a powerful and rich Jat by the name of Teeratha. Teeratha was a follower of the Muslim sect of Sakhee Sarvar. He was the local leader of this sect and had hundreds of followers who all respected him. Teeratha would regularly lead the members of this sect on a pilgrimage to the main Sakhee Sarvar shrine now in Pakistan. Meeting the GuruOnce when passing through Amritsar, Teeratha decided to visit Guru Arjan. He had heard that there was a great Guru who had a large following and this Guru was spiritually enlightened. He was curious to know who this Guru was and what he would say. He decided to stop off and see the Darbar of Guru Arjan. When he saw the Darbar, he saw that people of many different backgrounds, and castes were all sitting together and living in harmony. He also heard the keertan in the darbaar and the keertan left a permanent mark on him. He heard of the great gift of naam and the thirst to have this gift rose within him. He was the leader of hundreds of Sakhee Sarvar followers but he could no longer follow that path. He realised that Sikhee was the path he must follow. He came to Guru Arjan Dev jee and introduced himself. Guru jee saw how rich and powerful Teeratha was and when Teeratha begged for naam and to be initiated into the Sikh faith, Guru jee replied, "Being a Sikh is no easy thing. The path is finer than a hair and sharper than the khanda. The primary principle of Sikhee is humility." Teeratha again repeated his request. Guru Arjan Dev jee then said, "Why do you want to be a Sikh? You are a rich and powerful man with hundreds of followers. You can continue on the easy path of Sakhee Sarvar, because the Sikh path is very hard. If you become a Sikh, you will lose your followers and all their respect and you will lose your wealth as well. You may even have to pay for this decision with your life. What use is there in becoming a Sikh for you?" But Teeratha was insistent he begged that nothing mattered. If he lost everything it would not matter, he needed naam. With tears in his eyes he begged for naam. Guru Arjan Dev jee accepted his request and initiated him into Sikhee and gave him Naam. Teeratha decided to not return home and took leave of his followers. He decided to stay with the Guru for some time. The Sikhs knew that Teeratha was from the Manjh clan and began to call him Bhai Manjh. Bhai Manjh did seva in the darbaar and one day Guru Arjan Dev jee called him and asked him to return to his village and preach Sikhee to his old followers. Return to the Village and DisasterBhai Manjh returned to his village and began the work of preaching Sikhee to the followers of Sakhee Sarvar. In his home, there was a shrine to Sakhee Sarvar which was revered by all the local followers. Bhai Manjh reached home and immediately had it demolished. Many of his old followers who had considered him a Guru heard Bhai Manjh's message that Guru Arjan was the true Satguru and the source of all happiness. They too decided to become Sikhs and began to recite baaNee. Bhai Manjh and the new devotees of the Guru decided to build a Dharamshaala (Sikh place of gathering) in the village where they could daily meet and do sangat. While the construction of the Dharamshala was still going on, some Sakhee Sarvar leaders came to the village and saw that so many followers had become Sikhs. They spoke to Bhai Manjh and asked him to renounce Sikhee or face a terrible price. They said that he was powerful and a high official in the Sakhee Sarvar sect and he would lose all this if he did not come to his senses. Bhai Manjh sent them away and was insistent that he would remain a Sikh. The Sakhee Sarvar leaders left the village but heaped countless curses on Bhai Manjh and vowed that he would regret his decision. Within a few days of this event, one night, all of Bhai Manjh's cattle died. It was unexplainable how all cattle could die in one night. In the following nights, cattle began to die in neighbouring houses as well. The villagers began to believe that perhaps the curse of Sakhee Sarvar was responsible and by becoming Sikhs and destroying the shrine, they had made a serious mistake. More and more cattle began to die each night and the villagers decided to break off from Bhai Manjh. They declared that they had nothing to do with Bhai Manjh and his new religion. They removed him from his position as village head. Bhai Manjh now began to lose his wealth as well and soon poverty entered his home. PovertyBefore, poor and needy people used to come to Bhai Manjh to request for help and money. People would still come now but he himself was living in abject poverty. Bhai Manjh had absolutely no extra wealth to give to anybody. Bhai Manjh was in a desperate situation and he decided to visit the new village head. Bhai Manjh offered his home to be rented out for some money so he could feed his family. The village head agreed to the proposal but added the condition that Bhai Manjh's wife would become his housemaid. His wife would be paid for her labour as well. Bhai Manjh returned home absolutely shattered. He was once the most powerful man in the village and today he was being forced to make his wife a maid. When Bhai Manjh's wife asked him what the village head had said. Bhai Manjh haltingly explained the offer he was given. Bhai Manjh's wife listned and then said that in such hard times she too was willing to make sacrifices and if they had to lower their dignity by doing a job such as that of maid, then so be it. They had to marry off their young daughter and needed money to raise their family. Bhai Manjh's wife agreed to go work for the village head. Bhai Manjh fell asleep that night in deep sadness. The next morning his wife would leave to begin her new job. He thought of Guru Arjan and wondered why the Guru would put his Sikh through such pain. How could the Guru allow him to see such days? Then understanding dawned: this must be the Guru's test. The Guru had said that he would have to sacrifice his all for Naam. Bhai Manjh was determined not to fail this test. He felt shame that he had ever questioned the will of the Guru. Serving the GuruThe next morning Bhai Manjh's wife gathered her clothes and left for the village head's home. Bhai Manjh decided to also leave the village. He left for Amritsar with his daughter and decided to spend his time doing seva. Bhai Manjh began to take the seva of bringing wood for the langar, cleaning the dishes, serving the visiting sangat and any other seva he could find. The Guru too heard of Bhai Manjh's sevaa. He called Bhai Manjh to come see him. Bhai Manjh and his daughter appeared before the Guru and bowed. They stood before Satguru Arjan and waited for him to speak. Guru Arjan asked, "Bhai Manjh, where do you eat?" Bhai Manjh replied, "Satguru, I eat from your langar…" Guru Arjan jee then said, "well then, what you do is nothing but wage-labour isn't it?" The sangat was stunned. They knew Bhai Manjh had sacrificed his entire wealth and prestige to become a Sikh and now did more seva than anyone else in the Darbaar. How could Guru jee have humiliated him like this in front of everyone? After all, the Langar was open to everyone, why would Guru jee say such a thing? Bhai Manjh was once a powerful and proud aristocrat with hundreds of followers. He now hung his head and then said, "Satguru, you are wise. Please give me the wisdom to understand and accept your Hukam." Guru jee did not reply. Bhai Manjh then bowed and took his leave with his daughter. Bhai Manjh now decided to no longer eat in the langar. He decided to collect two bundles of wood from now on and he would give one to the langar and sell the other to earn his living and use it to purchase his food. Bhai Manjh's daughter asked her father why the Guru was so merciless to him. Bhai Manjh immediately replied, "No no! The Guru is merciful. He is testing our faith. We can not fail." The Final TestBhai Manjh would rise early and begin to collect wood for seva and also to sell. After giving the first bundle and selling the second, the two would return to the Darbaar and do seva all day. He would put all his extra money into the Golak. Guru jee once came to Bhai Manjh and asked why he still stayed despite being so poor and having lost everything. Guru jee said he should go home. Bhai Manjh replied, "Mahaaraaj, please never speak of having to leave your feet. Sachay Patshah, worldly wealth is a dream and so it comes and goes. Nothing is lost. I have lost my worldly wealth and found your true treasure of Naam. No thief will take this treasure from me and no King will seize it. " Guru jee gave his blessings to Bhai Manjh and moved on. One day early in the morning when Bhai Manjh was going to the langar to give wood, such a dust storm arose that he could see nothing. Bhai Manjh stumbled and fell into a well. Day broke and Bhai Manjh still had not returned and everyone understood he must be in trouble. The Sikhs began to search for him and heard him call out from the well. One Sikh ran to Guru Arjan to tell him what had happened and Guru jee immediately dashed bare foot to the well. They threw a rope into the well and asked Bhai Manjh to pull himself out. Bhia Manjh jee called from the depth of the well, "Please, first pull the wood out for the langar! If they become wet, they will be of no use and not burn. If I am wet, nothing will happen." Bhai jee tied the wood bundle to the rope and had it pulled out. Only then did Bhai Manjh pull himself out. When Bhai Manjh climbed out of the well, Guru Arjan was standing before him. Bhai Manjh fell at Guru jee's feet. Guru Arjan asked, "Bhai Manjh! What have you gained by following me? You have lost your wealth, your status, and even your wife. You have lost everything!" Bhai Manjh held Guru jee's feet even tighter and with tears in his eyes replied, "No Satguru! I have not lost anything. I have only gained. Please don't push me away, this is my only request of you…" Guru Arjan Dev jee then said, "Bhai Manjh, your sevaa has borne fruit. Ask for anything you want." Bhai Manjh replied, "Guru jee, bless me that I may never want anything. May I always be content" Guru jee replied, "It will happen as you request. But still, request something Bhai Manjh…" Bhai Manjh then said, "If you are happy with me, then have this mercy. It is Kaljug. Please do not scold and test so harshly. May your Sikhs not have to bear such hardships." Guru Maharaj again said, "This too will happen, but still request something Bhai Manjh." Bhai Manjh finally replied, "May my consciousness remain at your feet and may I never forget the meditation of your Naam. If you wish to bless me, then bless me with gift of limitless faith." Guru Arjan heard these words and then said, "Manjh is the beloved of the Guru and the Guru is beloved of Manjh. Manjh is the ferry of the Guru who will ferry across the world ocean." Guru Arjan sent Bhai Manjh home and told him all had been returned. Bhai Manjh did not understand how this would be possible, but had complete faith in the Guru. Everything Restored Bhai Manjh's wife had been working in the house of the village head and she made such an impression on him that he decided to make her his sister. He requested that she take the responsibility of raising his only son. He also gave back Bhai Manjh's home where she could raise the boy. Bhai Manjh returned home and was informed of all that had happened and was stunned. Bhai Manjh never left the support of the Guru. Even at the darkest time he had faith it was all a test and if he stayed firm in his faith, nothing would happen to him. Bhai Manjh was appointed the entire Doaba area to preach Sikhee and he opened a Dharamshaalaa in his home. The langar that Bhai jee opened was famous all around. Many people became Sikhs because of his parchaar. When Guru Arjan Dev jee came to visit the Doaba area in 1596, he made a point of specially visiting Bhai Manjh and praised him for his parchaar. Bhai Manjh jee is the embodiment of faith and perseverance. Nothing in life could turn him away from the Guru and in the end, the Guru kept and protected his Sikh. Bhagat Surdas JiBhagat Surdas ji was a Scholar that was proficient in Sanskrit, Persian and Hindi. Thus he attracted the attention of Emperor Akbar who appointed him Governor of Sandilà. But Bhagat ji’s heart lay elsewhere. man bairaag bhaeiaa dharasan dhaekhanai kaa chaao || My mind has become detached from the world; it longs to see the Vision of the Lord's Darshan. He felt a great sense of detachment which led him to renounce his worldly responsibilities and entirely dedicate himself to the devotion of the Absolute One. An honest, wealthy man along with his family came to visit Bhagat Ji. Bhagat ji gazed at the wealthy man’s wife and his mind began to waver. akhee soothak vaekhanaa par thria par dhhan roop || The impurity of the eyes is to gaze upon the beauty of another man's wife, and his wealthAs a result of this impure act, his body started to flow with emotions of uneasiness and restlessness. He abandoned his devotion to God and took the attire of a lumberman. He began to drop off lumber at the wealthy man’s house daily so that he could have the chance to gaze upon the wealthy man’s wife. After he would drop off the stack of lumber at their house he would stand starring at the wealthy man’s wife without any shame. The wealthy man and his wife had a very generous nature as they both kindly served saints and gave money to the needy. The wealthy man’s wife felt grief in her heart that this poor man’s mind has wavered, if I tell my husband he’ll harm Bhagat Ji. In these thoughts she decided to stay quiet and not tell her husband. A year later her husband asked her, “Where did you get all this lumber from?” She clasped her hands together with her head lowered and replied in pure humbleness, I can only tell you if you promise that you will be forgiving.” The wealthy man trusted his wife deeply replying, “I will surely be forgiving because where there is forgiveness God himself resides there. kabeeraa jehaa giaan theh dhharam hai jehaa jhoot(h) theh paap || Kabeer, where there is spiritual wisdom, there is righteousness and Dharma. Where there is falsehood, there is sin. jehaa lobh theh kaal hai jehaa khimaa theh aap ||155|| Where there is greed, there is death. Where there is forgiveness, there is God Himself. ||155||
The wealthy man’s wife truthfully told him everything. The honest, wealthy man felt deep anguish that such a detached saint left his Bana to become a lumberman throwing piles of wood for a year just for this worldly rubbish. The generous couple did simran together and ended with an heartfelt ardas: “Dear lord, please bless Bhagat Surdas ji with a place in your sweet lotus feet.” Instead of getting angry at Bhagat ji they decided to invite him to their house for Langar. When Bhagat ji reached their house they washed his feet with respect and served him Langar. After Bhagat ji finished eating Langar the honest, wealthy man requested, “O Bhagat ji, Please take my wife and everything I own, you are our saviour that will save us from the messengers of death, I shall renounce everything and meditate on God!” Hearing these words Bhagat ji felt extreme shame. In feelings of Remorse he thought, what have I done? I have turned my eyes away from the almighty Lord and with lustful eyes have looked upon another’s wife which has the following consequences: par thria raavan jaahi saeee thaa laajeeahi || Those men who go out to enjoy other men's women shall suffer in shame. nithaprath hirehi par dharab shhidhr kath dtaakeeahi || Those who steal the wealth of others - how can their guilt be concealedBhagat ji then told the wealthy man to bring him two hot iron spikes. Upon his refusal Bhagat ji said he would curse him. Afraid of being cursed he then brought two burning hot spikes. Bairaagi Bhagat ji took the two burning spikes and stabbed his eyes. That these eyes made me throw piles of lumber for a year, they have made my life a living hell. The bairaagi, blind Bhagat ji then went into the wilderness to do bhagti. Whilst in the forest Bhagat ji got Diarehea, to his aid Bhagvan ji (God) himself appeared in human form. Bhagvan ji washed Bhagat Surdas ji’s clothing and said, “Dear Bhagat ji, I must go now.” Bhagat ji recognised God’s voice and respectfully with love grabbed Bhagvan ji’s wrist. Bhagvan ji pulled away and Bhagat ji proclaimed, “O lord you may free your wrist from my hands but try to leave my heart!” Seeing Bhagat ji’s devotion Bhagvan ji sat down and blessed him with his eyes. Bhagvan ji then said, “ You should not have made youself blind, If you want to keep those eyes now you have to come back to this world again.” Bhagat ji humbly requested,“ Please forgive me in this life, I will praise you and commit this life to you without eyes.” Bhagat Surdas ji was then blessed with the effortless repetition of God’s Name. United with Guru Arjan Dev Sahib ji’s Lotus feet, Bhagat Surdas Sahib ji spoke this line of Bani which is on Ang 1253 of Siri Guru Granth Sahib Ji: shhaadd man har bimukhan ko sa(n)g || O mind, do not even associate with those who have turned their backs on the Lord. After speaking this line of Bani, Bhagat Surdas Ji went into smaadhi where all he saw inside and outside was the Blessed Vision of the Lord's Darshan. Dhan Dhan Guru Arjan Dev Sahib Ji has also included a Hymn in Bhagat Surdas ji’s name which is located on Ang 1253 of Siri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. The 9 steps that our mind takes when committing an immoral deed: 1) Looking at someone of the opposite sex and having dirty thoughts. 2) Listening upon dirty conversations. 3) Remembering this person’s face. 4) Praising that individual’s appearance to others. 5) In your mind thinking endlessly about this individual. 6) Privately thinking dirty thoughts of this individual. 7) Making plans on how to achieve goal to get closer to this individual. 8) Carrying out actions which assist in accomplishing goal. 9) Achieving the goal.
According to Guru Sahib’s Teachings these are 9 steps our mind falls into that lead us away from God and away from our true objective. A Gurmukh is one who has controlled his mind through Maharaj’s blessing and does not fall into these traps of Maya. Khalsa is pure on the inside and outside, jeeahu niramal baaharahu niramal || gur kaa sikh bikaar thae haattai || The Sikh of the Guru abstains from evil deeds. mithhiaa naethr paekhath par thria roopaadh || False are the eyes which gaze upon the beauty of another's wife. akhee vaekh n rajeeaa bahu ra(n)g thamaasae|| The eyes are not satisfied with beholding sights and exhibitions. akhee praem kasaaeeaa har har naam pikha(n)nih || The eyes which are attracted by the Lord's Love behold the Lord through the Name of the Lord. jae kar dhoojaa dhaekhadhae jan naanak kadt dhicha(n)nih ||2|| If they gaze upon something else, O servant Nanak, they ought to be gouged out. ||2|| par thria roop n paekhai naethr || The Gurmukh is one who does not gaze at the beauty of another’s wife. (The above information was taken from “Sri Sukhmani Sahib Steek” DDT,Baba Jaswant Singh(Bhagat ji) and translated into English.)

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh Sant Baba Shaam Singh Ji was a beautiful Sikh of Dhan Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaj who dedicated his life to seva. For over 70 years Sant Baba Shaam Singh Ji was blessed with kirtan seva at Sackhand Sri Darbar Sahib. Every morning as Sant Ji made his way to the house of Dhan Dhan Satguru Sri Guru Raam Das Ji Maharaj he would lead the sangat in singing: This Shabad is by Bhagat Kabeer Ji in Raag Bilaaval on Ang 856

One time as Mahapursh was walking towards Sachkhand Sri Darbar Sahib at amritwela he noticed that one of the shops which sold badam milk was left unattended. As Sant Ji proceeded he saw that the shopkeeper was sleeping on the floor. Beside him there was a large tub which was filled to the top with used cups. Sant Ji immediately went over to the tub and while continuing with his Naam Simran began to wash the dirty cups. As Mahapursh made his way through the cups the shopkeeper woke up to the beautiful sound of Guru Sahib’s kirtan. The shopkeeper looked around and instantly recognised Sant Ji as Mahapursh used to make this journey every day. The shopkeeper reached for Sant Ji’s feet and with tears in his eyes asked Mahapursh why a bramhgyani, a kirtani of Dhan Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaj was washing dirty cups. Mahapursh smiled and said, “Gurmukho, what else is this body for? I do an ardas to Maharaj to bless me with such seva.” May Dhan Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaj bless all his beloved Sikhs with such an outlook. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

WAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA WAHEGURU JI KI FATEH A Sultanpur bard named Bhai Bhikha decided to retire from the World so that he could search for creator, Waheguru. Whenever he heard of any Saint he went and waited on them. He would do alot of seva for these Saints. For a long time he remained as a pupil of a Brahman, without obtaining any peace of mind. One day Bhai Bhikha began to cry and wondered why he had not progressed spiritually. He prayed to Waheguru, to guide him and let him met a true saint, so that he could obtain salvation. Upon this he was told to go to Goindwal to go and see the king of the world, the guru that everyone was speaking about, Satguru Sri Guru Amar Das Ji Maharaj. Bhai Bhikha started on his journey to Goindwal, full of devotion and praises for his beloved Lord. He was so happy that he was finally going to meet, someone who could carry him across this world ocean. He stood absorbed in thought for a short time, and then sang the following in praise of Satguru Ji: "By the Guru's divine knowledge and meditation man's soul is blended with Waheguru. He, who with single mind fixes his attention on Waheguru, shall know him who is the truest of true. His mind shall not fly or wander who restrains his lust and anger. He who dwells in Waheguru's land and obeys his sweet order shall obtain wisdom. He who has done good works in this age shall know Waheguru. If a Guru be found he willingly and cheerfully grants a sight of him. I have continued searching for a saint and I have seen many holy men - Sayasis, ascetics, and sweet voiced pandits - I have roamed for one whole year, but non of these have satisfied me. I heard what they had to say, but I was not pleased with their conduct. What shall I say of the merits of those who renouncing Waheguru's name and who attach themselves to mammon? Waheguru has caused me to meet the Guru of the world; as you, O Waheguru, keep me, so I abide to your sweet hukam." Hearing Bhai Bhikha's words Satguru Ji put his hand on his forehead in token of accepting him as a disciple. Satguru Ji gave Bhai Bhikha the true Name, and made him happy. Having found the True Guru, Bhikha returned to his native town and lived there for the rest of his days. Keeping this image of Satguru Sri Guru Amar Das Maharaj in his heart, he applied himself to meditation and contemplations. This Shabad is by Bhatt Jal Jaalap in Svaiyay Mehl 5 on Ang 1394

Meeting with Guru Amar Daas, the earth is purged of its sin. The Siddhas and seekers long to meet with Guru Amar Daas. Meeting with Guru Amar Daas, the mortal meditates on the Lord, and his journey comes to its end. Meeting with Guru Amar Daas, the Fearless Lord is obtained, and the cycle of reincarnation is brought to an end. Realizing the One Lord, love of duality ceases, and one comes to accept the Sublime Mantra of the Guru. So speaks Jaalap: countless treasures are obtained, by the sight of Guru Amar Daas. WAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA WAHEGURU JI KI FATEH As Bhai Jetha, grew up he used to go and visit the society of holy men. He would give them whatever he recieved from his parents. His parents, wanted him to turn to some occupation for his livelihood, but this was not his own intention. Near to Bhai Jetha's house, there lived a poor man, who made his living by selling boiled pulse. At this man's suggestion Bhai Jetha's Mother, boiled some pulse and placed the boiled pulses in a basket, and gave it to Bhai Jetha to sell, at the market so that he might do something profitable. An ordinary person would have taken the pulse to the bazars and streets for sale, but Bhai Jetha went off with his basket to the river Ravi and there he sat down. He soon saw a company of holy men coming towards him from the opposite side, and he waited until thy had bathed and emerged from the river. They were very hungry and had not eaten in days. They saw Bhai Jetha sitting down with his basket and asked him if he had any food he could give them. They told Bhai Jetha that what was given in the name of the Lord, Akal Purakh, would fructify a thousandfold, and that Akal Purakh would bless his earnings. Bhai Jetha gave them the whole contents of his basket and then he went home. The holy men were very pleased, and prayed that Waheguru would reward the boy for his compassionate and timely gift. Dhan Dhan Satguru Sri Guru Ram Das Ji Maharaj, the king of kings and the saint of saints.

Vaaheguroo Ji Ka Khalsaa Vaaheguroo Ji Ki Fateh
Narad Muni, a bhramgyani once visited the tenth Guru Ji and presented him with the feathers of a "Humayu" bird. Guru Ji tied each feather to five arrows, strung them on a bow and shot them in all four directions and one up into the heavens. He asked him Gursikhs to go and look for the arrows he had fired. They looked hard but couldn't find them and returned empty handed to thier Guru. Guru ji then explained to the Gursikhs that he had been presented the feathers of the Hamuyu bird by Narad Muni Ji, and this bird of the sky had power in all its body parts. Guru Ji explained whatever was attached to the parts of that bird, the bird was able to take away to its own haven. Guru Ji was describing that just as the Humayu's feather had taken the arrows to the bird's sanctury, Mool Muntra, Gur Mantar and Gurbani also worked like those feathers except they could take people to the sanctury of God. So whosoever recites these and practises on his Naam, those Gursikh will eventually find bhramgian and be carried to the country of parbrahm(God), the one which is above the entire universe. To obtain God one should have strong faith and determination.

The Government of Maharashtra has opened the State Central Library Digital Centre in Mumbai, located in the Andheri East district. A 3-storey facility, the new library houses digital content in CD/DVD-ROMs as well as various reference and academic books, all of which are available for free to the general public. Each floor gives access to different types of learning – the ground floor is meant for children and senior citizens, housing a multimedia computer with digital academic material, movies, and games, as well as books in Hindi, Marathi, and English. There apparently is also an Xbox360! The first floor is meant for the general public, and consists of over 200 CD/DVDs, a legal database of DELNET, Manuputra, and the British Council Library, apart from 48 internet-enabled and well-specced computers. The second floor is meant for reading, and also contains its fair share of books. The third floor houses a cafeteria and an AV room. Certainly one of the first of its kind in India, the State Central Library Digital Centre will hopefully pave the path for more such centres across the country. For those of you living in Mumbai, and those visiting, here’s the address: State Central Library Digital Centre Guru Hargovindji Marg (Next to The Mirador) Andheri (East) Mumbai.

It is no secret that Google supports Linux, considering that their two operating systems, Android and Chrome OS are both Linux-based, however they have always been a little slow in bringing their applications to the Linux platform. Google Earth was late to come for Linux, Picasa for Linux is too lags behind the Windows release, and SketchUp is just not available yet.
For those who have yet not tried it out, Google offers a plugin to enable voice and video chatting straight from your browser, using the chat functionality in GMail. However, up till now you needed to be running Windows or MacOS in order to make use of the plugin. GTalk itself is not available for Linux.
Now while Windows has had support for voice and video chatting for almost two years, it is only now coming to Linux, and that too only for those running Debian-based distributions such as Ubuntu – although an RPM-based version is on the way.
