It is so shameful that there are only 825 girls to every 1000 boys in Punjab. Shame on us, as Punjabis.
Those that practice female feticide are regular every-day people around us, amongst us.
The Indian census data from 2001 as well as 2011 suggests that there is a positive correlation between abnormal sex ratio and better socio-economic status and literacy, and implies higher prevalence of sex selective abortion in urban areas.
What is wrong with our society. Shame on us. And this in the land where Sikhism, one of the most egalitarian religions in the world took birth.
Why is it that so many of our educated and well-to-do in Punjab kill their own fetuses inspite of their ability to support and educate the child ? Why is it that they know no better, and do no better, by virtue of their education ?
Let's create awareness around us about this within our families and friend circles and see a person who does this as a criminal, and someone to be abhorred, punished and shunned.

Muthi uski khali har bar nahin hoti,
koshish karne walon ki haar nahi hoti.
Asaflta ek chunauti hai, ise sweekar karo,
kya kami reh gayi, dekho aur sudhar karo.
Jab tak na safal ho, neend chain ko tyago tum,
Sangharsh ka maidan chhodkar mat bhago tum.
Kuch kiye bina hi jai jaikar nahin hoti,
koshish karne walon ki haar nahin hoti.

Hey people. There are lots of authors who either wrote in Punjabi, or in English but about Punjab and being Punjabi. These include Khushwant Singh, Sadat Hasan Manto, Prem Chand, Amrita Pritam, Bulleh Shah.  : I'll be posting some of the quotes that I find pretty cool. : Please post any you like as well. ... "Some people kiss as if they were eating watermelon" Saadat Hasan Manto's "Letters to Uncle Sam" :D: I found this one so funny when I read it that I never got over it :smile: "Letters to Uncle Sam" are a series of very funny letters Manto wrote, addressed to Uncle Sam ( #Amreeka) in the early 1950s, that are witty, hilarious, and that punjabis all over the world can still relate to.
