Post by: TheStig on September 22, 2010, 12:18:05 AM

Emami Ltd’s has filed legal notice against Dabangg’s filmmaker for using name Zandu balm without permission in the song “Munni Badnaam hui”. On one hand Dabangg movie producer is enjoying the stupendous hit of the movie whereas on another hand he is facing sue of Zandu balm matter.

The song line “Main Zandu balm hui, darling tere liye” does not appear to have well with the manufacturers. Emami Ltd has slapped a legal notice to Arbaaz Khan Productions dated September 17 claimed that it is the sole copyright holder of “not only the product, but as also the name Zandu balm”. Arbaaz Khan Productions has used name Zandu balm in the newest Salman Khan Blockbuster Dabangg. The Kolkata-based firm is moving against the usage of the firm’s ‘Zandu Balm‘ in the vastly popular item number Munni Badnaam in the movie.

Emami Ltd Director Mohan Goenka told to PTI, “We have issued a legal notice to the production company for using our brand (Zandu) in the song. It is a case of Copyright Infringement.” He added that Emami has asked Arbaaz Khan Productions to respond to the notice.

When asked to Emami about decision for issuing a notice now, even as the song was released a long time back, Goenka replied, “We were contemplating for a long time and took some time before taking a decision.”

As one of the company’s official has recently said that Zandu Balm’s sales had rised in the recent past since the release of the song. The company was understood to be even thinking to create a new television commercial on the lines of the song.

DNA reported that Malaika Arora Khan might have gone Zandu balm for Salman Khan in the song Munni badnaam hui from Dabangg, but the manufacturers of the pain-relieving ointment are not amused with the lyrics, and have threatened to sue the makers.

Zandu’s lawyer Ashok M Saraogi sent legal notice to Arbaaz Khan, his partner and wife Malaika Arora (Munni in the movie), Shri Ashtavinayak Cinemas Ltd, and director Abhinav Kashyap.

The notice points out, “My clients are in the business of producing and marketing various ayurvedic and other medicines including a popular product known as Zandu balm, which is a very common word used by the people, since it is commonly used for pain and related complaints.” The notice adds, “In the song, the name Zandu balm has been used continuously at various places. By using the brand name in the song, you have not only violated the copyright of my clients, but you have also made an attempt to defame the reputation of my clients and the product manufactured by them.”

Now Emami has asked to producers that either withdraw the song or delete the brand name from it. Till now the any reaction from Dabangg’s producers on this case is not stated.
