A mysterious shiny object floating high over Manhattan's West Side set off a flurry of reports and wild speculation Wednesday that a UFO was flying over the city.

Yes, people have spotted UFO over New York City, or was it something else? No one knows for sure. But thousands of Chelsea residents yesterday saw a silvery vision of a dozen balloon-like dots hovering in the clear-blue sky over West 23rd Street in Manhattan.

The sightings sparked rumors that the objects hovering in the skies are UFOs, the spaceships of aliens.

"Common sense says it wasn't a UFO. Common sense says it was a plane or a balloon, but this thing stopped everyone in the street for two blocks. Any New Yorker will tell you, that alone is extraordinary," said 52-year-old witness Daniel Calhoun.

Another witness, Tim Powell, 28, described the objects as "the most bizarre thing I've ever seen. It looked like a jellyfish made of lights that just hovered in the sky like it wanted to be seen. I was half expecting the aliens to beam down and introduce themselves." The authorities are yet to confirm that whether the objects that were sighted in the sky were balloons or something else.
