Title: Under the Weather? Just Swallow A Doctor
Post by: SonnenKinder on January 29, 2010, 06:35:11 PM
The day when patients can “swallow their doctor” has come a step closer with the development of a submicroscopic nanoparticle that acts as an intelligent pill to deliver drugs when and where they are needed in the body.

Each nanoparticle is built to target a specific part of the body and to release their drugs in a controlled manner over a given period of time. They are so small that millions of them could be injected into the bloodstream without harming healthy tissues.

Scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge have designed the first nanoparticles designed to target the walls of the arteries around the heart. They bind specifically to the proteins that only stick out from the inner lining of the these blood vessels when they are damaged.

Once the nanoparticles take up position in the diseased arteries they are programmed to release small quantities of drugs over several weeks or months to help cardiovascular patients to recover without exposing other parts of the body to much higher doses of potentially toxic drugs.

The development comes 50 years after a prophetic lecture by the brilliant American physicist Richard Feynman entitled “there is plenty of room at the bottom” where he described possible developments in nanoscience that could one day lead patients to “swallow the doctor” in the form of tiny robotic pills that could carry out internal surgery under autonomous control.

So, this is mostly for atherosclerotic disease?

            - Do you have more info on this? Send me a link of you do

thats great
cuz i think when someone has cardiac arrest then they inject that vaccine into the glucose bottle ,if they can build something that would just mix in the blood and starts it effect once reaches the blockage it will prove realy helpful
nice work there sonnen
your a legend bro
thanks for sharing nice posts

oh yanken ji i know lil bit asi gareeba nu kakh ni pata ji..
bas ami jo pata mada mota likh daida..

Also to add to that
While they inject that vaccine in Cardiac arrest situation they always say that they don't take any responsibilty as they are realy harmful vaccines that when they start their effect on the blockage the pressure may be more that can do a Brain Hemorrhage

I don't know much about nanotechnology except that it means the creation of artificial devices on the smallest of imaginable scales. Like a  nanometer is juss one billionth of a meter, about 10 times the size of an atom. Nanotechnology is an engineering on the molecule level, engineering that involved quantum physics, chemistry, biology and supercomputing. One of my teacher is associated with such research and about a Year back, I had the honour of visiting this nano research lab. They work totally sterlized atmosphere. Like fluoroscent strip lights, hving very high unltraviolet components juss to kill surface germs. Holiest thing in that lab was the inner core, visible only through sealed observation windows. This was a chamber full ofmirror bright stainless teel tanks, mobile equipments loaded with pumps, valvess and sensor devices. My teacher told me that in the world of nanotechnology, humans were the source of danger and contamination. A falling flake of skin, a hair follicle, the wafted particles of moisture beathed out in casual conversation or a sneeze all could wreak havoc on the nanoscale, releasing oils, acids, alkalines and enzymes that could poison the manufacturing process. Humans are also a rich source of bacteria, fast growing organisms that could consume production boths, clog filters, and even attack the developing nanodevices. But fortunately necessary work could be done remotely from outside the core and the control and sample preparation chambers. They are working on medical nano devices, what they called nanophages, those wud hunt down and kill cancer cells and disease causing bacteria. I dun know the present state of their research but they badly failed in early testing because the nanophages themselves were destroyed by the immune system before they cud do their work. Since then they hd been evaluating different shell configuerations and materials, tying hard to find a combination that would be effctively invisible to the boyd's natural defenses. I though now they hv broken through that obstacle, how to hide it from immune system, though m not that sure as yet. I think they coated nanophages with polysaccharides to overcome theier detection by body's immune system. I dont know more than that. May be you can find something on nanotechnology in your uni library.
