Legendary Punjabi singer Kuldeep Manak has died today after a short battle with pneumonia, it has been reported. The renowned singer had just celebrated his 62nd birthday on November 15th.
Ustad Kuldeep Manak had been suffering from kidney problems for some time, but was admitted to hospital in Ludhiana in the Punjab last week and was reportedly diagnosed with pneumonia.
The news was reported on BizAsia.co.uk this morning, and the singer’s Wikipedia page also states that Kuldeep Manak passed away on November 30th 2011, however there is yet to be any official word from the family or Kuldeep’s management to confirm the news of his passing.
Ustad Kuldeep Manak’s illustrious career in music began when the 17-year-old was chosen to sing alongside famed vocalist Seema in 1968. This proved to be Kuldeep’s lucky break and he went on to forge a successful career in the music industry racking up hit singles and albums and collaborating with other artists. During the bhangra star’s heyday in the 1980’s and 1990’s be developed a reputation for singing the traditional Punjabi genre of music known as Kaliyan.
Despite being in his 60’s, Ustad Kuldeep Manak’s desire to sing never faded and his most recent project saw him collaborate with established bhangra artist, Jazzy B on his new album Maharajas.
News of Kuldeep Manak’s sad demise is still filtering though to the Asian music world, however we anticipate the death of the legendary singer will have a huge impact on the Punjabi music industry as Manak’s talent inspired a generation of new artists.

Personally, I am so shocked by this news. Kuldeep Manak was one of my favorite singers of all time. His music had emphasis and emotion not like the music now a days. This is a huge blow to everyone but he will live on in our hearts as he is now in heaven and not suffering from any pain or illness. God bless his family and his son, hopefully he can carry his father's legacy. <3

Ludhiana, Nov 30 (PTI) Noted Punjabi folk singer Kuldeep Manak passed away here today, his family said. He breathed his last in the Dayanand Medical College and Hospital after prolonged illness. He was 62. Manak is survived by wife, son and a daughter. Paying tributes to the departed soul, Jagdev Singh Jassowal founder president Mohan Singh Memorial Foundation and renowned singer Jazy B said that it was a big loss to the Punjabi culture. They said that the singer will be remembered for his unique voice. Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal also condoled the death of Manak. Manak, who started his musical jorney at the age of 17, is credited for popularising the traditional Punjabi songs called kaliyan. His hits songs include 'Tere Tilley Ton', 'Chheti Kar Sarwan Bachcha' and 'Garh Mughlane Dian Naaran'.
