A speeding driver who killed a father-of-three while driving at almost 155mph to win back his girlfriend has been jailed for seven years.

Shehzad Munir, 25, was showing off when he cut across three lanes and smashed his 4.5 litre BMW 6 series into Sukhpreet ‘Suki’ Singh Chimber’s car – sending it hurling more than 600ft up the carriageway.

The incident is believed to be one of the most high-speed fatal accidents ever dealt with on Britain’s roads.

Mr Chimber, 30, a bus driver, was driving home to his family after work when Munir’s £24,000 sports car careered into his vehicle, Snaresbrook Crown Court heard.

A father to three daughters aged six, five and 20 months, he  was expecting a son with his wife of eight years, Sonia, at the time of the smash on September 9, 2010.

He suffered multiple injuries and died at the scene, on the A1306 Wennington Interchange between Rainham and Purfleet, Essex.

In a joint victim impact statement, Mr Chimber’s grief-stricken family said: ‘On September 9, 2010, our lives were shattered.

‘A mother’s heart was broken; a wife’s world was ended. Three children have been left fatherless and three siblings left devastated.

‘He doted on his princesses and was excited beyond belief about the birth of his son.

‘We simply cannot find the words to explain the amount of grief and pain we are still feeling and continue to feel.’

Munir, from Plaistow, east London, was convicted of causing death by dangerous driving after a trial.

He was previously convicted for driving without due care and attention in 2005, for which he was fined £290 and received four points.

He was also jailed for two years for wounding with intent in 2008.
