Ludhiana August 12:
            Former Mayor of Ludhiana Nahar Singh Gill died here today after a protracted illness. He was 62. He leaves behind his wife, one son and two daughters.
Mr Gill breathed his last at the local Dayanad Medical College where he was being treated for diabetes and kidney problem. A dedicated Congress leader, Mr Gill had served as Ludhiana Mayor between 2002 and 2007. Former Chief Minister Amarinder Singh condoled his death and said Mr Gill was a loyal and hardworking member of the Congress who always worked to strengthen its cadre.
Capt Singh said during his term as Mayor of Ludhiana, he worked hard for the overall development of the town and endeared himself to the people with his simplicity and positive approach. ''His death has created a vacuum which would be difficult to fill.''
